Select FP+ Meet & Greets (NO Standby Option)

You have been able to get tier 1 FPs on the day.

We were there the week before Easter - I got Soarin and RnR both on the day no problems.

TSMM is of little interest to us so we didn't bother to look even.

It depends who you are and what you want. If you are a family with toddlers who can't afford the character meals then a Winnie the Pooh FP may be ideal for you. Useless for me, but one man's trash is another man's gold. If you think they're useless don't use them. It doesn't mean they're useless per se.

It seems that some posters aren't clear that our issue is NOT that they have made these FP+ or Tier 1.

The issue for us is that they won't be available as standby at all!

Therefore if I'm waiting to ride Maelstrom and have 30 minutes to kill, previously I could have headed to the UK to meet Pooh (in his special location) and now I won't be able to do that.

In all the literature Disney has answered the question "what if there are no FP+ times available for the attraction I want to experience?" with, "Don't worry, all guests still have the opportunity to use the stand by line!"

It is this option that they have taken away. Travelling with adventurous four and six year olds we want to be able to FP+ rides and use stand by to meet Pooh and Tigger. I don't think that's too much to ask!

The worry is that while it is only one attraction in each park currently, this may be another test that gets extended. Not to mention that Pooh and Tigger will no longer meet at DAK so there isn't that choice either.

This is exactly how we feel too :thumbsup2

We have an almost 6 year old who meets the 48" height limit so she wants to do the thrill rides but is still young enough to want to spend time on character meets. Now Donald & Daisy in AK will be out unless we can get a FP for them at a reasonable time for our 4th. Same with Pooh in Epcot and Minnie in DHS.

I think not have the option to queue standby is a big mistake especially as these locations weren't exactly packed to begin with :sad2:

I understand what every ones issue is but I am saying from my point of view it's nice to have another option for a tier 1. We had so many unused FP because they weren't worth having.

Have a FP+ for meet Winnie the Pooh and get in the maelstrom line. Then when you have 30 minutes to kill waiting for Winnie the Pooh you can queue for maelstrom. I have never queued for more than 20 minutes for that ride. Is a FP really necessary.

People got so worried that they created the tiering in Epcot and Hollywood Studios that it would happen every where and it hasn't. I don't see the point worrying about it till it happens.

I still don't understand. After you have used a tier 1 FP can you not use another? So once you have used it why don't then get 1 for Winnie the Pooh.

I don't think any attraction/Meet and Greet should be FP+ only.

It lowers the value of the park ticket. It is a service they can not guarantee to every guest. So they are asking guest to pay (entrance ticket) for service, providing a enhanced service (FP+) but once there gone, there gone. Voiding
every guest having the opportunity.
They have already been pushing there luck assuming every guest having equal opportunity to fast broadband, lives on the pacific coast (so they would still be awake when the FP+ selections open) afford a extra lengthy trip, so they have more chances of "scoring" their FP+.

It's ok when you travel outside peak seasons - Maelstrom had 45+ minutes in April. Pooh had no line - which would you think is better use of a FP?

You can only get another FP once you have used all 3 pre-booked ones.

When we travelled out of peak seasons we would hardly use FP at all so not using or "wasting" FP now you select 3 isn't surprising.

I still don't think that going FP only for anything is the right decision.

The current tier one has a mix of height restricted and non- height restricted attractions anyway so I don't see that as an issue. :goodvibes

Thank you!

I am actually in favor of the additional options for families and non thrill-riders. It was an area that was lacking and forced people into FP's they didn't want without giving them a fair choice of suitable alternative.

In summary:

Yes please, add more small child friendly options to tier 1
No, please don't take away the option to stand and wait in line for those guests who are willing to do so. This is going to become a problem for those same families when their little one spots Pooh and wants to go say hello, but can't join a line and wait because the family already has their FP's for the day allocated.

This too.

The issue is not that they offer more Tier 1 opportunity for guests who didn't use the previous options (by choice or by need)

The issue is that they take out opportunities for every other guests

and what's very frustrating, is that the opportunities they give to small child families, are given on experiences that did not require any kind of fastpass.

So, now, those guests will be able to use a Tier 1 FP+ but just so that they can use that entitlement. It won't bring them anything new, not even save them time in lines, because there used to be no lines for those experiences.

They don't win anything in the process. they will just be glad to know that, they are entitled to a Tier 1 FP+ and they're able to use a perk that they paid for. The trouble is that, their brand new Tier 1 FP+ is as useless as it used to be. Because missing out on a Tier 1 FP+ because no experience in the Tier 1 list gets your vote, or using that FP+ on something that never required one ... that's no gain

and the saddest part here is that, if loads of FP+ are released for those M&Gs, when many people will use those FP+ for the sole purpose and the sake of using a FP+ they're entitled to, the lines (FP+ lines) will grow.
And, by getting that Tier 1 FP+, those guests might have to wait longer for those experiences than they would have had to wait if it had remained standby only.

So, basically, the risk here, is that guests who didn't use Tier 1, will now have a Tier 1 opportunity, but in the process will spend more time on that experience than they would have if they had thrown their FP+ Tier 1 down the drain, because no experience was available to them.

Not using one's Tier 1 FP+ or using it on an experience where, using that FP+ leads to longer wait times, it's throwing that FP+ down the drain either way.

This is how we feel, it makes me very sad that they have done this. (we also have a small fry who can't ride height restrictions) all spontaneity has gone from our trip, plus we have booked all our blinking fast passes and they make another change, more testing at my expense with no warning.

I have no problems with fastpasses, but fastpass only!!!!!

If I want to spend my time in standby then that should be my choice,

Kirsten

If I want to spend my time in standby then that should be my choice,

you know what, I'm glad I booked OKW, because the more it goes, the more I prefer idling at the resort, enjoying the standby only swimming pools

I just hope they don't make the boat to DTD a FP+ only experience :p

Yes and no.

I'm glad there is a standby option. I think the initial idea was ludicrous. But at the same time, they need to offer something decent for families who can't or don't want the typical headliners. Hopefully they do this soon. Epcot is a very difficult park for everyone - thrill seekers struggle and those with small children struggle. They need to find a balance to consider everyone.

Even a playground for 5 years and under with a FP option for 30 minutes to let the kids burn off some energy with free play. Now there's an idea :)

We could easily go with no FPs at Epcot tbh.

Elsie loves the bone yard at AK and the Honey I shrunk the kids at HS. Epcot could do with something like that. The new technology play ground area are still too advanced though she loved her piggy bank game. She didn't want to give her piggy back lol.

Tove used to love Donald's Boat in the old Toontown. They could scatter an extra one or two of those around. NFL looked pretty good for the kids, though admittedly we don't really spend time there now that my DD is much older.

They have Casey juniors splash zone at NFL that she also loves. Spent way too much time there as well.

epcot has different kid's activities

of course coloring a cardboard duffy might not be as efficient as a playground when it comes to let them burn off some energy, but kidcot is definitely nice for young ones

They always put a really nice play area in during F&G at Epcot - I don't know why they don't keep it year round :confused3

Chloe loves it there.

Not a fan of the Casey Jnr splash zone but the play area in the Dumbo tent works well and has the bonus of being area conditioned :thumbsup2

We always visit HISTK & the boneyard too. :goodvibes
