Simply Segway Experience
Epcot

A one-hour beginner class on using the Segway Human Transporter, called the Simply Segway Experience, began May 1. The class includes some training and mostly indoor riding -- there may be some limited riding time. The Simply Segway Experience is offered daily Wednesday - Monday (not available on Tuesdays) at various times and can accommodate up to 10 participants. The experience is $45 per person -- discounts are available for Disney Vacation Club members, as well as Disney Visa cardholders and Annual Passholders. You must be at least 16 years old and weigh 100 lbs. to participate. Maximum weight for participants is 250 pounds, and expectant mothers and persons with special needs may not participate due to safety concerns. Arrive at Epcot Guest Relations at least 15 minutes before tour start time (theme park admission is NOT included in tour price). For more information and reservations call 407-WDW-TOUR (939-8687) or inquire at Epcot Guest Relations.

Around the World at Epcot --
on a Segway!

On February 14, 2004, Epcot introduced Around the World at Epcot on a Segway, those futuristic-looking upright transportation devices on which you sometimes see Cast Members zipping around Epcot.

The tour, which lasts two hours, has been so popular that it now runs twice daily -- at 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Check in 15 minutes before the scheduled tour time at the Guest Relations lobby inside the turnstiles.

NOTE: Guests are able to arrive before the 9 a.m. opening in Future World by identifying themselves as being on the Around the World at Epcot Segway tour. There is a guest list at the turnstiles. Use the same far right queue the Princess Storybook breakfast (Norway) guests use.

The first hour of the tour teaches safety rules and allows you to practice riding the Segway, while the second hour is a tour around World Showcase before it officially opens to visitors.

Cost for the tour is $80 (park admission is NOT included).

Some restrictions apply: Minimum age is 16 (guardian must sign a waiver for ages 16 and 17), maximum weight for participants is 250 pounds, and expectant mothers and persons with special needs may not participate due to safety concerns.

A 15 percent discount will be available for AAA and Disney Vacation Club members, as well as Annual Passholders, Disney VISA cardholders, and Disney Cast Members. A photo ID will be required at the time of the tour.

To book this new tour, call (407) WDW-TOUR.

Epcot is the perfect park for Segways. I would be curious if Disney allows visitors into the parks if they had their own Segways.

I would really doubt it since there's the issue of liability if the guest hurt someone. The WDW staff has to take I think it was like an 8 hour training class (I think that was the number our instructor told us in class) before their allowed to use them in the parks.

We are going to do a Seg Tour on this trip. How far in advance should I make a ressie? And do you know the cancellation policy or rain policy? I hate to book it and then have it rained out!

Disney does NOT allow people in the park on their own Segways since they are not accepted as an official mode of handicap transportation. They are considered in the same class as skateboards, etc, and are not allowed.

The rain policy is, if the weather's bad you don't do the outside portion of the tour. You still do the training for the first half on the inside course and I don't know if there are any refunds. I would guess you probably get the full time, but you stay inside on the small course?

Cancellation policy is 48 hours ahead, iirc, and I'd try and book as soon as you know you want to do it. I held off booking our second tour for our late October trip until we had some plans firmed up. I called almost 6 weeks ago (nearly 3 months ahead) and had exactly one time to choose from for the entire week we're there! Last year they added a second tour each day, but each still can only take 10 people, so they fill up fast.

The cancellation policy is 48 hours in advance. If it rains you do the first hour of the Around the World class inside and you are reimbursed half of the class fee for the second, outside hour. You have to give them your cc# when you book the tour. If you are going at a busy time it's best to book early to get the day and time you want. HTH

I would book as soon as you know your dates and plans. I treated Lynn and a good friend of our's to this tour in June and they both loved it. It was one of the highlights of the trip. The little girls did the Pirate Cruise from the Y&BC, while the big girls did the Segway at Epcot and I rested quietly in the resort with no one around :cool1: ! Do it, I think you'll really enjoy it.

My husband, son and I did this in February. It was the most fun we've ever had at WDW. I can highly recommend. If you are a AAA member, mention it when you are making a reservation - there is a discount. We paid $68 per person for the two hour tour with the AAA discount.

Have fun.

How strict is this weight limit... I'm at 260 right now, I am still trying to drop 10lbs in 10 days... UGH !

does the thing shut down if you over 250? do they weigh you?

I've done the class twice and I'm a bit on the heavy side but no questions asked, they just mention it in the beginning of the class. That's not to say the Segway won't come up with an alarm if you're too heavy when you step on it.

They are already taking bookings on this for 2006. I booked mine the other day for next May. We did a Segway tour around Paris last year and it was the best fun ever , I can't wait for the World Showcase version :cool1:

Thanks for the great info everybody. Not sure if we will do the tour or not. It does look like fun though.
