YAY! We just booked our segway tour so the first thing I do is search on the internet to learn everything I can about segways and now I'm scared. So for those of you who have taken the tour are they really easy to learn? Do the handles tilt or how do you turn?? My hubby is about 240-245 pounds, the weight limit is 250 so I know he's fine but I just want some reassurance about that from you guys if I can. Thanks everyone. 17 days 22 minutes and 31 seconds until my trip!!!!

We took the tour in WDW, and are gonna take the one at DCA! It took us all of about ten minutes to get totally used to it. DW loves it! We both liked them so much, we are seriously considering buying one!

The steering is so easy, and the ability to turn is a small movement on the handle! you go forward by shifting your weight onto your toes and stop by shifting back on your heels.

You guys are gonna really have fun!:cool1:

DH and I love the segways! I can't wait until we have time to take the tour at DCA. We've done the Epcot tour twice. If I can do them anyone can.

The orthopedic surgeon I've been seeing says I'm just a clutz. Last month I broke my right elbow rollerskating with the help of a 2 year old running out in front of me with no shoes on. Then 3 weeks later I fell going down into a beach and sprained my foot and ankle.

At Epcot the weight limit was 250#.

We did the Segway tour at WDW and also in San Francisco. The Segway is very easy to learn how to ride and sooooooo much fun!!

The first hour of the tour, they teach you how to ride, so don't worry about having to learn before hand. ;)

Have fun and post about the experience. We want to do it the next time we are at DL.

We took the Segway tour in Barcelona. Each of us had about a 10 minute lesson, and then we were off.

They are super simple, and move when you tell them to, and stop immediately when you step off. They are a blast to be on & you could easily get spoiled using them. :)

I am so happy to hear that. In the videos I saw it looked easy to ride them but then again going to a circus and watching people unicycle on the tightrope looks easy. I can't really pat my head and rub my belly at the same time so I was worried I might try and go forward but ending stopping or vice versa :rotfl2: So yay that it's easy to learn.

And I totally meant to say 250 pounds not 150 pounds :rotfl: Dh wishes he were 140!
Thanks everyone, I'm so excited.

You will love this tour. DCA seems as if it were built for Segways, it's so open and flat. And you're in the parks before the public, so don't worry about anyone jumping out in front of you to cause an accident. The Segways are very stable - all you really need to do is stand there. :)

Getting on and off is the hardest part. (and it's not that hard!) If you can do that, you've got it made! Have a great time! It's a wonderful way to see DCA and I bet you will really enjoy riding the Segways.

but the weight limit is 250. I doubt they have a scale there to check, but probably put that in writing in case something happens to the segway?

:rotfl: I'll probably wipe out the first time I try to step on the segway. It's gonna be fun though, regardless if I'm the only one that falls off.

Yeah, well dh is under 250 so I guess he's fine it would just suck if he eats too many churros the day before and gains 10 pounds and wears out the motor on the segway and then I'm out the 99 bucks I paid for him to take the tour lol. Yeah I had to pay the full price, even though we're getting AP's when we're there they couldn't give us the discount or reimburse us the discount difference when we're there so that sucks.

Another quick question, apparently it comes with breakfast anyone know what is served at the breakfast? I'm just curious..

I treated my dad to the Segway tour for his birthday back in July and we had a BLAST!

The breakfast we got consisted of a couple different varieties of naked juice, a couple different muffins and I believe bananas. The muffins are HUGE, like the kind you get a Costco. Its served in a little room where they do your initial orientation.

One piece of advice I can give, and they will explain this to you in your orientation - the Segways are set on what is called "Turtle Mode", which is the slowest top speed of 6mph. When you are going on the Segway and it hits that top speed it will start to "right" itself to slow down and you are going to feel like the Segway is trying to push you off backwards where really you are hardly moving at all - it is just a really weird sensation.

I was worried about my dad not getting the Segways and all that fun stuff (man he was a pro!) but it was actually my Dfi that had an issue with this - everytime it would try to slow itself down, he would jump off because of the sensation. So my advice is when you feel this happen, just lean into - it will continue to slow itself down but you are leaning in to the bar so you don't feel like you could fall (hopefully that makes sense).

Oh and my brother "claims" that he figured out if you picked up one foot while doing this it would make it stop trying to right itself so you could push the speed a little more - he wanted to be a little speed demon (heck we all did - while it felt fast at first, after a while you just wanna ZOOM!)

You are gonna have so much - getting on and off takes a little to get used to but the instructors are great and will stay with you as long as needed to get the hang of it. :cool1:

Where is there more information about this tour? What is the age requirement? Many thanks for your information. I did this at WDW and it was wonderful!

Oh that sounds tricky. So if it feels like I'm being pushed backwards I should lean fowards is that what you meant by lean into it? If I leaned backwards could I flip the segway over my head? :rotfl2: I don't want that to happen.

If you go to the disneyland website they have more information there. The age requirement is over 16 and if you're under 18 you must have an adult with you. You must weigh between 100-250 pounds.

Haha - I don't think you would necessarily flip it over your head, although I guess there is always a first for everything hehe :lmao: - you would fall backwards and it would fall forwards. That is why my Dfi kept jumping off because he felt like it was going to push him over backwards.

Now of course, that shouldn't happen if you let go of the handle bars when riding. My funniest memory of the trip is being down in the que for the Sun Wheel with my brother and looking up at the boardwalk to my dad whizzing past us with the big obnoxious helmet they make you wear, a goofy grin on his face and his arms outstreched hollering "Look mom, no hands!" :rotfl2:

I used the handlebar as my life support - whenever I felt it trying to slow itself down I would just hold on to the handle bars a little bit tighter and lean my body forward into them as it was pushing back towards me. It didn't happen very often and actually where I noticed it the most was when I was going up small grades like around Grizzly Peak.

Thanks for the information -- I loved the Segway tour at Epcot and will be heading to DL soon. It really was not so hard to get the hang of riding the Segway once you learn to stop trying to adjust your balance -- just let it adjust to you!

Sorry just noticed the previous poster posted a link to it so I have deleted mine.
