Segway Tour is Great

Thanks for the review...we are booked for the 2 hour one in October (we did the short one in Dec 05) and yes I believe it was $80 pp (we got a DVC discount though so it was less). We were so pumped after the one we did in Dec we couldn't wait to sign up for the longer one!

I found my feet hurt, though, after being on it for 30 minutes, did you find that with the 2 hour one or was it not an issue?

Inga

Now that you mention it, it does hurt your feet a little. But they showed us some cute little stretches to do while we were 'still'. It did help. I wasnt aching or anything, just a little sore. The stretches did help & I actually forgot all about it until you mentioned it (so it obviously wasnt too bad).

I'd do it again in a heartbeat :)

Glad that you had a great time! All the reviews of this tour are positive. I signed up today for the 9 am tour on Nov. 29! Whoo Hoo! Am so excited!

We loved the tour in October, it was the highlight of our trip. The cost was $80 with a 15% AAA discount we paid $68 each. We too took a cab to Epcot to arrive on time. We did the 8:30 tour and I really liked the early tour. I thought it was cool to be in WS before it opened. It felt as if you had the World to yourself. We were also able to do a "free ride" in the area near Italy and that was a lot of fun. I don't think it would be as much fun if you had to avoid lots of folks.
My family thought that I would have trouble learning to ride, I am not the most coordinatated person in the world. :) But like Trini said it was very easy to learn. The hardest part for me too was staying absolutely still. The slightest shift in your weight and you are moving forward or backwards.
I did find that my legs ached a bit after 2 hours on the Segway, but just a bit, not too bad at all.
I hope we will be able to go again on our next trip, it was a BLAST!!!

I did the 9:30 tour a couple weeks ago. We still had the WS to ourselves. It felt like we were the only ones back there. Coming back to Innovations when we finished was interesting. ;) There were quite a few people in Future World that we had to avoid, but we all made it back safely.

I agree. This tour is so much fun! :thumbsup2

I wanted to share our delight with the Segway Tour.

My husband got to do it one day, and I did it the next. We couldnt get reservations on the same day. Let me tell you it was one of the best things about our trip. Even though we were not together, it was awesome.

We both got an 8:30 tour. So you have to get to guest services by 8:15am. No big deal. They sign you in and then take you over to the Innovations bldg where you get your training. The instructors are great, and the same people who teach you how to use them are the same ones who take you on the tour around Epcot.

I am not the most coordinated person but I caught on pretty quick. The hardest part was keeping it perfectly still. Forward, back, turning was pretty easy. It only took a few minutes until we were all very comfortable driving it around. They made a little obstacle course for us, inside the bldg and they said we had to master it before we could go out into the real world. In reality it was probably about a half hour total learning how to ride it.

Then they take you out into Epcot. The Future World part was open, but we went over to the World Showcase. They took us around the countries, up into some fun paths (one was pretty difficult to do ont eh Segway but I didnt crash or anything). They told us some fun facts about the countries and we got to see them without any guests around. They let us take photos a few times, and we got to do a little free ride in one area. It was really fun.

Then you go back to the Innovations Bldg. By this time Future World was getting kind of crowded, so manuevering around the people was fun. Everyone was staring at us and asking what we were doing. It was great. My husband and kids were watching me and laughing as I came back in to park my Segway. I loved the tour, and my husband did too. It is most defnitely worth every penny.
We are doing our first Segway tour on 10/27!! WooHoo :thumbsup2

I am so happy you had a good time. My wife and I are doing one in december and we can't wait.

Are those photos taken by a family member or a Cast Member with your camera? Are the Photopass people around for Photos when you're on the Segway?
And, please, how likely is it that 1 might fall from one of these? DD wears a new medical device that we don't want harmed. Need a Plan B if its likely she may fall.
I have the tour booked for DH & DD17? I definitely want a great photo of them like you have on here!
TIA! :sunny:

We've taken this tour 3 times and have had someone in the tour fall off the Segway each time. The last time the person ended up with an injury. The Segway is easy to use but if you're nervous I think it makes it harder to ride. ALL the people who fell off when we were riding were clearly VERY anxious riders.....sad to say it was fairly easy to tell they were gonna have difficulty riding.

Last October we took the tour and loved it. My DD 21 broke her right wrist about 3 weeks before our trip so I figured she wouldn't be allowed to take the tour. To our surprise the CMs offered to let her try the indoor training part and since that went OK they let her take the tour.:goodvibes

I took my own camera and the CM took our group pictures for us.

No one in our group fell, but I could see how someone could. I'm not very coordinated, but I was able to do ok. I think the main thing is balance, if you are easily thrown off balance, then it might be a problem. You can go really slow if you are not comfortable.

Re: photos. You bring your own camera and they will take photos for you. Or you can take your own photos. They dont have the Photopass photographers out there, but they should!

I must say, it is fairly easy to lose control when you've left the Innovations building and are clipping along to the WS or back. You are following one guide, and there is also one in back of the line to "pick up the pieces". The Segways have speed maximum of 5 MPH, which is fast when you're on it. Our guide was Ben, and he moved fast! There was no slow going allowed, unfortunately!

No one had an accident, thank Goodness. :)

I went with my parents and wished my dad had not taken the tour. Now HE wants a Segway! I told him: why spend several thousand dollars on the dang thing when you can buy a motorcycle for that much money, carry a spare passenger, use it on the highway and drive at nearly 120 mph? Haven't heard a reply from him yet! :teeth:

OK we'll move to a Plan B then. Always better to be prepared! Now, I just have to worry about the cameras! LOL!

I think it's still cheaper to return to WDW for a Segway fix than to buy one!

My DBF and I are taking the tour for the first time at 9:30 on Nov 30!! One question for everyone who has taken it- what kind of shoes did you wear? Is anything in partiuclar recommended (or not recommended). Thanks! :cool1:

"pick up the pieces" :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Glad to know there's someone back there to pick me up!

DH fell off his...I was so embarrassed for him. We were pretty much done with the tour and heading back to the main building to park our Segways. He was having fun going as fast as he could, looking all around and got too close to the curb...and down he went. It's funny now, but he kinda freaked the CM's out. He was fine (and so was the Segway)...I'm guessing he's one of VERY few who have crashed the things.

How far in advance can you book the tour? And do you pay for the tour at time of reservation, or the day of the tour?
