segway tour in DCA?

My fiance' and i are getting really excited about our first trip out to DL/DCA in October. Does anyone know anything about a Segway Tour in DCA??? I have been looking for information for it and i can't seem to find any..does it still exist??

Yep, it still exists. DH and I just did it in late May and had a blast. My only complaint is that they don't let you take any pictures until the very end of the tour because the park is closed and they don't want you getting pix of "behind the scenes" stuff.

Try going onto the Disneyland web site, choose the DCA park, then click on the tours in the left hand nav. I found my information there. When you call to book the tour (a MUST do as it seems to fill up fast), make sure you have the list of available discounts handy. The CM I spoke to was very nice, but uninformed of the available discounts. I told her that their own web site listed the discount I was trying to receive (Disney Visa) and she initially told me that it wasn't available on that tour. When I pushed a little bit by pointing out it was listed as a discount for that tour on their site, she put me on hold, came back and gave me the discount.

One other note, we didn't have park tickets for the day since we were flying out that same day. It was sad having to leave the park just as it was opening up for the day...

I did the Segway tour in April and it was great! Looks like there is information on the disneyland.com site (group tour section of the website).

We started out with a breakfast of muffins and Odwalla juice and got some basic training (video). Then we had a hands on training session where we learned the basics of how to ride a segway. After training, we did a tour of the park -- through Redwood area, Paradise Pier, etc... We didn't have any time to ride on our own, but stuck together as a group. No pictures were allowed, but we did have a photo stop where we could take out our cameras. Also there was a photographer who took a group photo.

At end of session we were given a segway pin (love it!) and a couple photos that the photographer took of the group.

Also, they provider free use of daily lockers for those who had stuff with them -- as there were no storage baskets on the segways.

Finally, I do remember getting some AP discount.

I DEFINITELY recommend the tour!

I'm afraid, though, that I will have trouble riding the Segway and hold up the rest of the group!
Is it as easy as riding a bike?
Did any of you have trouble or were in a group with someone who had trouble?
Were the castmembers really helpful?

They are really easy to ride. When we did the one at Epcot my friend was cautious at first and had the same worries that you did, but after the initial training session she picked up her confidence and kept up with the group really well. Actually I think she was near the front most of the time!!

I think I was probably the worst in the group at learning how to ride the Segway. They had two castmembers who provided training and it was pretty thorough. They also took it pretty seriously that you got what they were teaching and had me do some things more than once to make sure I figured it out. By the time we went on the tour, I had figured out how to ride. The only thing that I wasn't entirely comfortable with was going fast -ish, but I eventually got the hang of that, too. The castmembers were watching all of us and told us to raise our hands if we were uncomfortable at any point and wanted/needed to stop, opt out, whatever. And they helped us on and off the Segway to make sure we were comfortable.

I think I served as a pretty good test if this is doable for even those who aren't terribly balanced or courageous

I can't wait to go, but I'm trying to hold off until hubby and I can go together. He's over the 250 weight limit, but he's lost 50 lbs in the last 2 years, so he'll get there eventually!

DH and I had also done the one in Epcot and wanted to be able to say we had done it coast to coast! I personally like the Epcot one a little better, but I'm not sure if that's because it was my first segway experience or because we just love Epcot so much.

One warning to those of you who haven't yet done it: Segways can be quite addicting!! We love them now and want one in the worst way, but very $$ for that kind of toy.

We just did the tour this past May, & *LOVED* it! It was really easy to ride, once you got the hang of the thing. (which did not take long at all.) The majority of the time was spent learning how to ride it. But it was a blast when they let us "freestyle" I would take the tour again in a heartbeat. (They give you "insider" tips about the park as you go... Most of the info we already knew thanks to the disboards ) Do try it! Even without any discount it was worth it to us. Something different to try, after having been to DL so many times. I agree, that not being allowed to take pictures was a bummer, but the park was not "magical" at that hour of the day anyway...
Oh! & we did not use the locker, but the CM took our tickets for us & had them scanned so that we did not have to wait in line to re-enter the park. All in all, the best part of our trip...can't wait to try WDW version!

We just did the tour last week (the 21st to be specific). It was pretty fun. As everybody has said, they will give you a locker for the day if you have stuff with you. The lockers are located OUTSIDE of the DCA, right next to Guest Relations. Keep that in mind... they're not in either park.

They gave us these huge muffins and fruit, with fruit juice and coffee while they explained how the Segway works. Then they walked us over to just outside Monsters Inc ride where the Segways were all ready and waiting for us. They handed us the "keys" to the Segways that start them up and then trained us on how to ride it. After the training, it was time for the tour portion. They collect the keys which insures that 1. you don't change the Segway from the turtle speed and 2. you don't go zooming off without them. They place the keys in their pouch so the Segway only works when you're in proximity.

There's a mandatory rest...ours on the pier just by the McDonalds. We had photos taken with the big Mickey ears (on California Screamin') in the background...with their camera and ours.) At the end of the tour, they gave us the photos and the special pin. The guides then walked us to the entrance. By this time, DCA was open but not really, the rope drop hadn't happened yet.

It looks so easy and it is BUT it's murder on the feet and calf muscles. You discover muscles that you never knew existed in your foot. Keep that in mind.

I'd love to do Epcot's tour now.

I was working at amazon when they came out for sale, on amazon first. it was this HUGE secret between Jeff Bezos and the guy who created them, and they were calling it "IT" or something like that, for ages. Such huge hype, and such a huge disappointment, since they cost (at that time) about 20K and were unobtainable for most normal humans.

Thanks! So thats what those things are called. I remember seeing CMs from time to time riding them around Tomorrowland, showing off and stuff and entertaining guests. Those things look like fun!!
