Segway tour at Ft. Wilderness

When are you going? How far in advance should the ressies be made? And did they require a deposit? Thanks!

We are going in Oct. We have been waiting for them to open up ressies for Oct activities and they just opened them up yesterday. I booked far in advanced b/c I wanted to be sure I got the date and time I wanted, and I did :)

Yes- they took my credit card info- and the only discount you can get is if you are a DVC owner. No Disney Visa discount :guilty:

I was told you do get 50% of your money back if it rains b/c they will still do the undercover portion. You have up until 2 days in advance to cancel so I will keep my eye on the weather- I would prefer to do the entire tour- not just half.

It's been a couple years since we took the FW Segway Tour (we were actually one of the initial tours), so I don't know how much has changed. The training was in the Backyard BBQ area, which I think was a large covered area. They still showed you a short training video, and the Segway XTs controled a little diffrently than the standard Segway. The XT has larger tires and a wider clearance, so they give you a little training on making sure your tires are clearing obstacles. They also discourage you from using the reverse direction on the XT, and instead focus more on turning around.

The training was shorter than the Epcot tour, but that may vary with the class size. While both tours were great, I preferred the FW tour to the Epcot one

Thanks Brock!;) I've seen pics of the XT. Actually DH had me look up the info on the XT when we got home from Disney after taking the Epcot Segway tour

I have read that most people do prefer the FW tour over the Epcot tour.

I would like to try the Celebration tour after this next trip!

I just booked the FW Segway Tour for me and my DS (he is 16) and we are very excited about the tour. Our tour is scheduled for Tuesday, July 20 at 11:30. I was told to meet at the Trading Post near the middle of the Fort. Is that the store near the main pool? We have stayed in a cabin once at FW and loved it, esp the golf cart. This trip we are staying at CR since DH couldn't go on this trip. Where do we get the internal bus to get to the Trading Post or could we just walk from the boat area? I can't remember since we stayed at the Fort a few years ago.

We just did the segway tiur at FW on July 20. It was really fun but beware your legs/feet may get a bit tired after 2 hours. This tour was worth every penny and I would do it again too! Here are some pictures.

One of our guides, this is the one who lead us and talked in the headphones. Very nice!

Hi ohiotinkfan!!
My 20 year-old son did the Epcot tour this past June and absolutely loved it so I promised him he could do the Fort Wilderness one next trip. I'm hoping you can help me with a few questions since you just did the tour.

1.Where do you meet for the tour? I've heard so many conflicting reports that we have no idea. If it's the Meadows Bike Barn, how does he get from the Boat Dock to the Bike Barn?

2. We aren't going until May, how far out can we make the reservation?

Thanks so much for any and all info because I'm going to need it!!! :thumbsup2

Carla

We had to check in at the Bike Barn, which is near the main pool and Meadows store, near the middle of FW. We stayed at CR so we took the little boat from there to FW.
You can walk, which is what we did and it was very hot out, but the walk was nice. Get off the boat and go past the store near the dock. Follow the road straight, we used the sidewalk, and it should be about 1/2 mile or so on the left. You go past several campsites and some comfort stations along the way. It is a nice walk because you get to see all the great campsites. You can also take the internal bus from Pioneer Hall and have the bus drop you off near the Bike Barn too.

I am not sure about the ressie, just call and ask. I called the 407 disney number.

Thanks ohiotinkfan for the reply. My son read your post and said "no problem" so I guess he's all set!! He is very travel savvy so I'm sure he'll find it just fine. His younger brother on the other hand not so much. He would be forever lost at Fort Wilderness!! :goodvibes

Thanks again!

My mother in law crashed a segway in Virginia and had to have multiple surgeries from it on her sholder.

jorescue - So sorry for your mother-in-law! I hope she is doing better too. We could only go 6 bars (I think that is what they are called??) which is middle for the segways at Disney. The guides could go faster in needed. I could see how a person could fall off if you lost your footing or couldn't get stopped.
