Segway recall

I just heard on the news that Segway Transporters are being recalled. This could be a problem for persons who have segway tours scheduled. I called Disney immediately since my husband has one scheduled in 2 wks. and they said so far they are only cancelled for today and tomorrow. I hope that they can have the problem fixed and not too many persons are affected by the recall. According to the website of Segway the software needs to be updated, the wheels can reverse suddenly causing falls.

Thanks for the info! I just read that article on MSN and came right here to the Dis to see if anyone knew anything about the immediate future of the Segway tours because my DH and I are both scheduled for the tour on 10/7. Hopefully things will be upgraded by then!

I rode on at Innoventions on Monday, I barely escaped with my life!!!!

I hear that Segway's software can be updated by the end user through a computer. So the company should just be able to release a software patch, and Disney should be able to load it in the Segways fairly easily.

Its just a software update and does not require any hardware changes. I would think it would only take a few minutes and there is a Segway store in Orlando that does service them. The software update is already available according to the Segway website. I would like to think they will be ready again by the weekend but it might take a few days.

I have a tour scheduled this next Thurday (9/21) I am not even going to bother to call until maybe Tuesday when I am there- or just go to the info desk @ EPCOT....

Epcot Segway Tours suspended

Disney has temporarily stopped the Epcot Segway tours while the manufacturer repairs a software glitch.

The U.S. Product Safety Commission recommended that the use of all Segways stop immediately. The voluntary recall by Segway Inc. is in response to reports of the vehicles suddenly shifting into reverse.

There have been six incidents reported nationwide which resulted in a range of injuries. Broken teeth, broken wrist and a facial injury requiring surgery are among the complaints.

There's no indication of when the Epcot tours will resume operation

I heard that while driving to work this morning. I'm glad there is a fix for it. I feel sorry for all those who had tours booked.

YIKES! we have one scheduled for 10/4, dh will be devestated if we don't get to do it!

I wont be devistated if our tour gets cancelled- I am NOT looking forward to getting helmet head!
