Let's say I want to book a 7-night trip on the day my 11/7 month window opens. Could I book all 7 nights and then call back later to segment it and add a DP or would I risk losing the entire reservation?

I'd obviously prefer to segment it when I make the reservation, but I don't think you can do that if you call on the 11/7 month day of your arrival date, right? It brings us back to calling day-by-day.

Does my question make sense?

I planned my upcoming trip several months back, I just called a week ago to segment! i had one rep tell me no so I called back a few days later and the rep said no problem! I was on the phone for about 45 minutes but its all done! I added the deluxe dining to everyother day!

hope this helps

I wondered what the "new" system is designed to do...

I don't know how popular split-stays are, but I love them. I'm wondering, with the new concept of a single "vacation plan", might they start allowing you to book split-stays at the 11/7 month window:confused3? It sure would be nice to book the entire trip in one call rather than book the first two nights and then have to call back two days later to book the rest of the trip. What would be the disadvantage to allowing this? I'm sure there is a reason, but I'm drawing a blank.

I'm also an uber-planner so I will *always* call at 9am on the day my booking window opens. Obviously, this whole concept is moot if I just waited until the window of my check-out day:laughing:.

There is no longer a risk in losing the reservation when you segment. Call whenever you'd like! I segmented one day out at 48 hours before the trip. :goodvibes

How does the "checking in and out" for ever part of your segment work? Do we have to call? Or do we have to physically go to the lobby?

I hope it's easy. I'd hate to segment every other day, then have to spend time every day checking in and out.

What do your segments look like? Last December when I segmented a 3 night reservation, my dvcmember.com details showed the trip as follows (example):

12/15 to 12/16
AKV 36 points
res#123456789

12/16 to 12/17
AKV 0 points
res#123456789

12/17 to 12/18
AKV 0 points
res#123456789

Today I segmented a 2 night stay, and the 2 nights show up as follows

5/1 to 5/2
VWL 16 points
res#123456789

5/2 to 5/3
VWL 16 points
res#123456789

Was this done correctly? Doesn't this mean that I technically have 2 reservations for the VWL stay?

My trip for August looks the same way as yours. I was told that I will have to go to the front desk to get new keys on the days of the plans. The good thing for me is that one of the days we are moving resorts anyway, so it won't be that big of a deal.

I called a few days ago to segment. I was told that there needs to be availability, which there wasn't (spring break...3 weeks out) I said ok and was fine with it but the member service rep asked if I would like her manager to get involved and see what she could do. UH, ok....sure! It took a while, but the manager did an overide on the system and was able to segment. We didn't do anything wonky, though. We are doing a split stay, so we paid for DxDP the whole time at BLT. We will switch to BWV and again have DxDp for all but the last night. It saved us $180......which I'm sure we'll make up at the pool bar! Great customer service....that is why we are dvc members.

I am currently at the BWV on a segmented plan. We had the QSDP our first night and haven't had anything since (we are on day 4 right now). We have the DDP Basic coming up in a few days.

So far we have had ZERO issues with it. We were told we would need new keys to "check-out" after our first night, but we haven't - they are still working fine for room charges and getting in our room. Now, when we get onto the DDP in a few days, I'm thinkin' we will need new cards. I'll be sure to report back then and let you know how it goes. :thumbsup2
