My DH & I may go to San Francisco (w/out the kids, yeah!!!) in Oct. We are somewhat familiar w/ the city but would like some suggestions in addition to the obvious;) Put on your thinking caps!
Also, is October a good time to visit the bay area? Thanks in advance!

October is a great time to visit! hmmmm...romantic spots? The vista point across the Golden Gate Bridge is very picturesque.... I've never been to Coit Tower, but I hear it's worth checking out. I'm betting that there are some romantic spots in Golden Gate Park - maybe the Japanese Tea Garden there. I understand there was a major rehab on the Conservatory of Flowers - just re-opened (it's a beautiful glass building).

There are plenty of small restaurants. Maybe go to a few SF websites and see what you get. If you want to venture out of the City, I recommend the Wine Country: Napa/Sonoma and Muir Woods to the north of the City.

Couple of good restaurant ideas. One would be The Palace Hotel. Fantastic place there. The Cheesecake Factory in Union Square offers an amazing view of Union Square. It's located on the top floor of Macy's there.
You'll have lovely weather thqt time of year.

Take a drive up Twin Peaks at nightfall as the lights of San Francisco come up. Very memorable.

We're considering an October trip to San Fran as well for our 10th anniversary. This may seem warped, but how about Alcatraz? The ferry ride over at sunset is quite romantic.

We stayed in the White Swan Inn last year and we loved it. It is very quaint and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We used our DVC points to stay there. I recommend it highly. Here is a link with pictures:

We also ate at Alfreds steakhouse and it was one of the best meals we had.

Alcatraz was a really great tour, we did the twillight tour and looking at the city all lit up on the way back was really nice.

Palace of Fine Arts is incredibly romantic. Its just really pretty with places to stroll and picnic, and you can go into the old neighborhoods in the marina and get up close view of the Golden Gate Bridge. There's lots of romantic places in SF. I definitely recommend the Palace of Fine Arts though. I love it so much i was married there 6 years ago Sunday!

We went to Alcatraz 2 years ago on our anniversary, it was foggy and kind of misy, it was kind of romantic :)

I also recommend the Hotel Palomar, gorgeous rooms, very romantic :) (and close to everything downtown :) )

I love SF!! I think it is one of the best places for a couples only wkd!

Hornblower yachts does a dinner dance kind of cruise.. http://www.hornblower.com/idc.asp?port=sf

Dinner on Fisherman's wharf... any of the restaurants...ya it is touristy.. but also alot of fun!

Drinks at Ghiradelli Square... awesome views

Lunch in Sausalito... very.. very quaint and sweet.. just walking around in Sausalito is sooo much fun. Exploring a new place together.. way cool
Go to a ball game at Pac Bell... cool if you enjoy baseball.

Dancing at one of the zillion clubs... lots of different venues... or try a piano bar.

Bring a jacket..... to paraphrase Mark Twain

"The coldest winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco"

It can get very chilly on the bay..especially in the evening... but it is another great reason to snuggle!!

Hope you have a fabulous time!:sunny: :sunny:
