DH & I went there on our honeymoon in '99 and loved it.

Fast forward 10 years and we are considering a 2nd trip. Our DD 6 has been on lots of minor road trips and Disney 3x but has never been on a longer vacation. She loves the beach and I got to thinking it would be cool to go to Cancun. I had never considered it but have been doing some research and seeing that it's pretty family-friendly.

For those of you who have taken your families, please tell me where you stayed and what types of activities/play areas they had for kids.

Also, I'd be interested in what kind of package you had or if you booked everything separately.

Thanks!

Check out Crown Paradise Club. It's very kid-friendly and has separate space in the rooms for the kids.

We have stayed in the Maya Riviera 4 times (Playa Del Carmen), Cozumel once and Cancun once. I would personally not go to Cancun again, just so over developed, it was like Miami Beach, but highly recommend the other 2.
We have stayed at all-inclusives every time except the first, when we rented a house in Playa Del Carmen. All inclusives come in all budget ranges, so make sure you know what you're getting. The last one we stayed at in Puerto Aventuras, had an Italian restaurant that was fabulous. (I know who goes to Mexico and eats Italian???) it was one of the all inclusive options.
Check out the maps at cancunmap.com they were better than any of the guidebooks we got.

We stayed at the Moon Palace resort (all-inclusive) for our honeymoon in 2000. It was about 20 min. away from the city-which was nice because the beach was never crowded. There's also a Sun Palace and another "Palace" resort in the city-all were very nice. We saw several families with children there also.

My last trip to Cancun was in 1995 but we're headed back next week! We'll be staying at the Cancun Palace so I'll let you know what I think when I get back!

I would recommend Riviera Maya, absolutely breathtaking.
Grand Palladium is nice, I booked a large group there last summer and they didn't want to come home! It is a VERY large resort though, they have trams going thru the property but you will do alot of walking.
Another one you might look at is the Iberostar complex. Iberostar del Mar or Beach will be your "best bang for the buck", but the Lindo has a really nice wave pool and is definately a step up in quality. Very family friendly.
Moon Palace is another huge one but also family friendly, and with their Palace Passport you get alot of free tours included with your stay. Last year they did a "kids under 12 stay and eat free" promotion so if you are going in the summer keep an eye out for that.
If you want to stay in Cancun, check out one of the RIU's. Caribe will be your more budget price point, followed by RIU Cancun then RIU Palace.
Another good budget-friendly, family friendly one in Cancun is Gran Caribe Real. I sent a family there last summer and they had a blast.
I love Cancun/Riviera Maya. Hoping to get back there sometime this year.

subscribing... we are going to puerto morelos on the 26th and I'd love to hear more about this area!
