Having been ill for several month now. one of the down sides is that my face has beome very thin and drawn. This has left me with deep lines around my eyes and mouth and my cheeks have sunken quite deeply. I've seen all these ads on TV and in magazines for lotions and creams that are suppose to help soften the lines and rejuvinate the skin, but I find them all confusing. I'm starting to look 10 years older than I am. Does anyone one use anything they think might help me with my problem? I saw and ad last night for some stuff called Roc that claims it will make you look 10 years younger, Im just not sure I trust any of these products with their wild claims.

Personally, I don't really trust them. They are *cosmetics* and by law, only able to work as *cosmetics*.

Since you've been ill, would you insurance cover a visit to a dematologist? I would think s/he would be most able to help you.

Best of luck and I hope you are feeling better now!

I'm sorry, but nothing will get rid of those deep lines, except possibly gaining weight. Nothing I know of anyway.

Any Alpha Hydroxy (AHA) lotion should help with the very tiny surface lines. It exfoliates the dead skin cells and with the new skin showing, it makes your skin look fresher.

May I suggest maybe a new trendy hairstyle, a new outfit or two? Something that makes you feel good.

Not trusting those wild claims is a good thing. Roc is a good lotion, but if you believe only half of what they say they will do, you'll come closer to the truth.

Botox works. :) Haven't tried it myself, but I might in 10 years or so. :)

The lotions and creams really won't get rid of lines. They might soften the skin, but really the whole thing boils down to genetics and aging, and in some cases like you described, losing a lot of weight.

Having said all that, I'd recommend going to get a facial. It might not get rid of your lines, but it will make you feel like a million bucks! If you haven't ever tried it, you should, I think you will really like it. :)

Many of the skin treatments do absolutely nothing for me; however, some of these products really DO make a difference in rejuvinating your skin. Most of the retinol based products work well (better than AHAs, IMO) and the cheaper drugstore versions seem to work as well as the more expensive department store brands. I like Oil of Olay Total Effects (I believe that is the name). You have to be careful if you have senstive skin though as some of these treatments can be rather harsh. After a few weeks of using one of these products, you WILL notice a difference. Your skin will be much smoother and more vibrant looking (don't know about reduction of lines, though).

One of the best things you can do to get back the glow is to work on the inside. Drink plenty of water and eat fresh fruits & veggies. If you are not well hydrated, no cream can help your skin. Adequate hydration helps to "plump you up."

Also, make sure to get enough "good fat" like olive oil, flax seed & Omega 3.

Vitamins E and C are good for tissue repair. E is even good to apply topically--just pierce one of those little capsules & squeeze.

I hope you feel better soon!

No other words of advice here, but just wanted to give you a bit of encouragement and hope you get to feeling better soon!!!

I've seen some of those ads too. I don't think any of those creams work, and they are quite expensive. Maybe a good moisturizer and foundation would work just as well.

Take care!!

While I agree that nothing but botox or surgery will take away major, deep lines, plenty of extra moisture inside and out can plump up the more shallow ones and just make the surface look and feel better. Since you haven't been using anything in particular, I would think that something for sensitive skin would be good, and something especially moisture-rich.

I especially like vitamin C skincare products, but perhaps it's subconscious because vitamin C is so good for you inside I think it's good for you outside too. HSN.com carries a good, moderately priced skincare line called Serious Skin Care (also available at www.seriousskincare.com) that has a very nice vitamin C line of products. If you can stand to wait a few days for them to ship them to you, I think that you'd like them.

Good luck to you, and I hope that you're feeling better.
