Seeing The World for the 1st Time (again)-1st time PTR w/pics INPUT WELCOME

We ordered my new harddrive and it should arrive on Monday.
I am hoping Ron's friend can come and perform major surgery on the computer that same night. I don't know how long it takes but I shold be back up and running by next week sometime. I just hope all my programs and settings can be salvaged:scared: . In the meantime I've been looking for all my program discs just in case we have to re-install everything. I seem to have misplaced quite a few and then there are others that I know I don't have because they were not mine to begin with:mad:
Cross your fingers that it doesn't come to that.

How's the computer surgery going? Mine's finally back up and running and it's so darn hard to get caught up. I think my PTR is too far into the ditch to even try and fix at this point. I'm going to update this week (that's my goal) and we'll see how it goes. I hope it's not a sign of how the trip will go!!

Hope the BBQ and birthday party all went well. Can't wait to see what you're planning to do on this trip! :goodvibes I'm sure it'll be amazing whatever it is. With lots of Disney magic and pixie dust, nothing will get in your way-not even poop, poop and more poop! :lmao:

Great wedding story-you're much more patient than I. Our DJ messed up introducing people at the reception and I had a mini hissy fit right there and told my brand new husband "do not pay the (rhymes with witch) a single dime" :scared1:  Little did he know what he was in for!

Ok we just got the new washer and dryer put in (finally!!) and I'm still cleaning up from DH's surprise party Friday night and Corbin's birthday party Saturday night. Mommy's still gotta pull some birthday magic together for tomorrow. We'll see how that goes!

Have a wonderful night!!

Warning Spoilers Ahead about Mary Poppins on B'way

How was everyones weekend? Mine was GREAT, I balled my eyes out! :rotfl:
My mom bought us tickets to see Disney's Mary Poppins on Broadway for this past Saturday's performance. It was VERY good. However it was not like the movie, there were quite a few differences. And no exception is the nightmare scene where Jane and Michael's toys come alive to put them on trial for having a bad temper. Dude what was that all about? Poor Leon was really scared. He scares easily! But in the end Mary Poppins banishes the scary mean nanny and everyone is happy. When asked, Leon said the worst parts were: the toys coming alive, the scary nanny, and that they didn't get to visit Uncle Aurthur (I think that's his name) so they could laugh so hard that they flew. The best parts were: That they really flew a kite (although my mom almost spoiled this for him. He said "wow that's so awesome. They are really flying a kite, COOOOL!" to which my brilliant mom said "oh no hon, that's just a string holding it up") Luckily Leon did not hear her. I told here to please leave the magic alone!!!! Also on the list was Bert walking up the side of the stage wall and then walking upside down. Of course the very best part was Mary Poppins flying out over the audiance!! The look on Leon's face as he jumped up and down, clapping his hands was priceless. I got just a little teary. Then the very best part of the whole play for me was when the cast did their final curtain call and Mary Poppins comes out at the end to take her bow and Leon leaps out of his seat and screams "I LOVE YOU MARY POPPINS!", That did it tears were just pouring out of my eyes! I could not stop crying. Ron just laughed at me, but it didn't matter, Leon just got his first, real, up front, and in his face, dose of Disney Magic. I was thrilled!!

............anyone have a tissue? I've got something in my eye again.
Oh yeah and yesterday he ran around at a friend's bday party holding a balloon in the air singing "Let's Go Fly a Kite" all day.

Is that awesome or what?

Hi Lynn
How's the computer surgery going?
I just got the Hard Drive in the mail today & the surgeon is coming on Thursday

I think my PTR is too far into the ditch to even try and fix at this point. I'm going to update this week (that's my goal) and we'll see how it goes. I hope it's not a sign of how the trip will go!!
uh-uh don't even think about it, no ditching the PTR!! Come on we're in this together. Besides you have 3 trips. Even if the first one doesn't get caught up, you'll still have 2 more to go.

Hope the BBQ and birthday party all went well.
They both went very well. We had a blast!

Can't wait to see what you're planning to do on this trip! :goodvibes I'm sure it'll be amazing whatever it is. With lots of Disney magic and pixie dust, nothing will get in your way-not even poop, poop and more poop! :lmao:
:lmao: You are right. I can't wait to get my computer back so I can get back to this report properly, it's not the same on Ron's computer. I just don't feel at home without my own computer. Know what I mean?
Great wedding story-you're much more patient than I. Our DJ messed up introducing people at the reception and I had a mini hissy fit right there
Yeah we had a DJ problem too. He got paid but no tip!!

Ok we just got the new washer and dryer put in (finally!!) and I'm still cleaning up from DH's surprise party Friday night and Corbin's birthday party Saturday night. Mommy's still gotta pull some birthday magic together for tomorrow. We'll see how that goes!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOYS!!!!!

:surfweb: Woo-hoo! I am back in business! I think… When trying to copy my old hard-drive to my new one we found out that the start up boot (I think that’s what she said) and some other technical thingy things were not readable, so she went around the ones that could not be read and copied the ones that seemed to be okay. It seems to have worked but said I may find a few glitches; she had no way of knowing what would be affected. I guess I will see as I go. I am to “play around” with the computer and make a list of what has been affected. She will come back in 3 weeks to work on those things. :badpc: Whew!
Nothing like losing all your Disney stuff and then finding it again to renew your Disney spirit!:jumping1:
So back to planning ……..

Before I jump into how I see Day 1 happening, let me start with how I see the days leading up to "Day 1" happening:

Sat. Nov 22 (aka 6 days til Disney)- Go to the in-laws to celebrate SIL B’Day, and hopefully Leon’s as well since we will be away for his actual B’Day. (I am secretly hoping he will get Disney Dollars as spending money for Disney)pixiedust:

Sun. Nov 23 (aka 5 days til Disney)- Get a little crazy :scared: over getting the house cleaned before we have leave, do our last minute shopping for the trip & start throwing things to take to Disney in piles to be organized and packed during the week.

Mon. Nov 24 (aka 4 days til Disney)- Babysitting my niece while attempting to pack but probably getting nowhere

Tue. Nov 25 (aka 3 days til Disney)- Babysitting my niece and a second child, while attempting to pack but probably getting nowhere and starting to freak out.:scared1:

Wed. Nov 26 (aka 2 days til Disney)- Really freak out because I will be babysitting two kids from 7am until 5pm, and at the same time I plan to have everything packed for the trip as if we were leaving the next day, while making my Thanksgiving mashed potatoes and a pie to bring to dinner (also for the next day). This will be the real packing day because no matter how much pre packing and prep I do in order to avoid this situation on the last day before the trip, it always turns out the same. I tend to be one of those people who NEEEEDS to see everything laid out in front of me. It drives Ron nuts whenever we need to pack up the car to go somewhere, whether it be the airport, on a road trip, or a simple event that requires bringing more than my purse, because I pile everything by the door and when he asks if he can put anything into the car yet, I always say no because I have to see it all together before I can let him pack it all into the car. I have to visualize it, in order to know I have not forgotten anything. So I will spend the day laying everything out all over my room, covering the bed and the floors so I can see it all before sticking it into our suitcases. I will then decide the bags are too heavy because I tried stuffing everything I want to take into as few bags as possible (the goal is 1 bag per person or less). I will then transfer a few things to a 4th and possibly 5th bag. Luckily, because we booked Jet Blue before May 31st we are grandfathered in to the two checked bags per person free of charge rule. I will then probably unpack everything and re-assess what I have packed and try to eliminate a few things because I hate having too much stuff to carry. On average I tend to pack and re-pack my suitcases at LEAST 3 times before a trip and I am always up well past midnight doing it. Ron will be working from one of my lists to help get the house cleaned up before we go, while telling me there is no need to re-pack everything AGAIN, and that we should really get to bed, it’s past midnight. About 2 or 3am I will take his advice.

Thur. Nov 27 (aka 1 day til Disney)- Thanksgiving Day- if all has gone as planned, all my bags will be packed and waiting by the door, outfits for the next day will already be set out, the mashed potatoes and pie will already have been made, and Leon and Ron will watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade on TV while I try to sleep in. I will probably have to medicate myself as a preventative measure against the inevitable Fibro Flare-up due to lack of sleep and anxiety. My mom and my sister will call several times that morning to find out when Dinner will be and when are we actually leaving for Ron’s parents house, and do they have to get there at the same time we do or can they be late, should they follow us, and should my mom bring her own wine. Basically all the same questions as last year and the years before that, followed by all the same answers. Every year we go to my in laws and every year my DM and DSIS are invited and every year they say we’ll see, and every year they come. Nothing has changed except my niece was born this year. That MAY put a kink in the plans, in that they might want to go to see my sister’s BF’s family… but her BF is not much of a planner so I half expect him to leave it up in the air till the last minute and then end up coming with us anyway. After we sort who is and isn’t going, who is meeting who, when we are going to get there, we will leave our house in the early afternoon. There will be much merriment and food, but I will probably be watching the clock wondering why dinner isn’t ready on time? And would it be bad to skip out before dessert? And don’t these people know we have to be up at 4am the next day? But in the end it will all be fine because we will aim to leave the in-laws house by 6:30pm but after all is said and done, we’ll actually leave closer to 7:30 or 8. By the time we get home I will have Leon in bed by 8:30pm. Check in for the flight on-line. I will do a last minute check of all our baggage, and then take a huge step in telling Ron it is okay to put everything in the car a whole night before we have to leave. Take a shower and try to go to sleep. Wake up every 20 to 30 minutes in the night looking at the clock because I am afraid of over-sleeping and missing the flight. I will finally fall asleep at 2:30 or 3am and then the alarm will go off at 4am.

And then the adventure begins:

:woohoo:Fri. Nov. 28 – DAY 1:woohoo:

4:00 am Wake up all excited, despite only 2 hours of sleep, because today we are gong to Disney! Nudge Ron, Get Dressed, Nudge Ron again, double check my lists, yell at Ron to get in the shower NOW! Call my best friend just to wake her up. No I am not mean, there is a reason – see OT below. Once Ron is dressed, pack any last minute items into the car. Carry Leon from his bed to the car and hope he stays asleep. Yeah right!!!
5:00am Make sure the cat is in, lock up the house, and head to the airport.
5:30am Check-in the bags while Ron parks the car
6:01am Panic because Ron is still not back from parking the car (He is parking it in the employee parking lot at JFK – which he estimates should take him 30 minutes to do and get back)
7:00am Take off for MCO and hope that Leon will fall asleep. Wishful Thinking.
10:30am ARRIVE IN MCO!!! :mickeyjum Start taking pictures immidiatly, take our first monorail and find baggage claim.
From here it gets a little nuts….:squirrel:
Then find Alamo car rental. I don’t want to waste any time with the ME, as cool as it is and as free as it is, it will still cost me TIME.
Jump into the rental and head for Wally-World ( Wal-Mart). Get some groceries, maybe pick up some souvenirs, and look around BRIEFLY for any Black Friday Deals, I’ve got to get my fix you know.

OT- you don’t know how much it kills me to be missing out on my annual Black Friday Shopping Spree. My best friend is not happy that I am bailing out on our tradition of getting up at the crack of dawn, for our 15 or more hour, non-stop bargain hunting, take no prisoners, Top Secret Tag – Team Black Friday Shopping Spree Mission. We are very serious about this. We plan for weeks and weeks in advance. She is however very understanding of the fact that the only thing worthy of tearing me away from my mission is Disney World itself! She is a Disney nut herself.-OT

Then we’ll head to DTD to pick up my DDE card on the way to the POP. If our room is not ready when we check-in, we’ll put our bags in storage after grabbing our suits from the carry-on and then head over to the Hippy-Dippy Pool. Once our room is ready we will head up to the room and unload our things, hopefully there will be time to nap after we shower. But probably not.
4pm - take the car to Hoop Dee Doo Revue look around the resort until the show begins.
7pm-ish Okay now that Hoop Dee Doo is over – here is where the wishful thinking begins……..Drive over to MK for Wishes and Spectro Magic. Then go back to the resort and pass out!!! DOH!
OKAY, OKAY I know this isn’t very realistic of me to throw that on the end. And I am pretty sure we probably won’t get to do that last bit. But I can dream. If it were just Ron and I, then sure, no problem we would definitely do it. However in this case it will ALL depend on Leon’s disposition.

OT-In the last few weeks we have gotten back a diagnosis of ADHD for Leon, since then I have been doing a ton of reading and crying (let’s not forget the crying:sad: ) while researching this disorder. We want medication to be our very last resort, but it MAY be inevitable. But in the meantime we have him in therapy to manage his anger and frustration. And we are working closely with him and his camp counselors (and eventually his teachers, come September) to help him learn to control his impulses and hyperactivity. Right now we are all in the learning stages, so we are still having some issues. On his good days he can keep himself controlled WITH reminders throughout the days to do so, but at some point he just can’t take it anymore and he needs to just let it all out. That’s where the after camp/school tantrums, fits and just all around bad behavior comes in. He becomes uncontrollable and inconsolable – it’s exhausting!! So in the case of Disney we have 133 more days (or just 20 more Fridays) :woohoo: to learn how to help him keep in control longer, so we all get to enjoy ourselves for longer periods of time. -OT

So in reality we most likely will not see Spectro Magic on Day 1, which may mean we miss it all together since on the other nights that they offer it during our stay don’t really fit into our schedule. Except maybe on Day 2, but I have my reasons for not wanting to do it that night, which I will go into then.

Oh my gosh! You are still alive and well! You're night before you leave sounds like me the night before we leave. Do we even sleep? I mean I know my eyes are closed, but not sure sleep is involved.;) So far so good. Your first day sounds full of fun and excitement. Can't wait to hear about day 2!!!

 Hey!

How fun that you got to see Mary Poppins! I'm a Disney crier too-you're not alone! Dan just laughs at me and I'm ok with that.

Ok yes I think we are truly family. Your leading up to actually leaving sounds just like me EXCEPT I will not trust my husband to do anything important. I also have to make a list for the nanny of things to be sure are done so I can just come home from work, change and drive to DISNEY!!! Top of the nanny's list????? WEAR OUT MY BOYS! :goodvibes :lmao: I need a bit of quiet time in the car on the way there.

I too will throw things into a Disney bin (like a Rubbermaid storage tote-which, by the way, is already full in the middle of the livingroom and we've got like 2 months to go!!) and wait until every stitch of laundry is done to be sure I'm not missing anything that I want to pack.

I also love Black Friday. Carter put a krink in my plans last year. He was born the Monday before Thanksgiving and we were to be released on Wednesday, make Thanksgiving dinner and shop my heart out on Friday for as long as I could after having a c-section. He aparently did not like this idea as he was in the NICU. I got sent home on Friday and he came home the following Monday. Out of guilt for leaving my baby at the hospital, my husband took me to Walmart and we bought things we didn't really need. (great plan huh??). Now this year my mom and her husband are planning to come visit on Black Friday-I'm thinking of roping them in to watching my kids so I can go shop! :woohoo: If worse comes to worse, I'll shop on line

Good luck with trying to get any sleep at all...I never can so you shouldn't either!!

Alrighty...my PTR is up to date just for you! Plans for both Sept and Dec are there for your viewing pleasure. I've also fixed all of the photobucket links for you!! :flower3:

Poor Leon-I hope everything all works out there. Honestly, it sounds just like Corbin. He just freaks out sometimes. I worry about it but have been trying not to freak out about it. One thing that helps him sometimes is "one and blow it out". He makes a #1 with his pointer finger and blows it out like a candle. Sometimes he has to blow it out 5 or 6 times, but if that's what it takes, blow away my little friend! I'll say an extra prayer for your family tonight.

I'm so excited for you guys-I know you'll have an amazing time!

Alrighty....have a great night. Rest up before the kiddies come over tomorrow!

Thanks! I am taking Leon to Germany for the weekend to attend a wedding in 10 days - I'm never going to fall asleep the night before!!
I'll be working on Day 2 tonight, barring any interuptions and complications.

 Hey!

How fun that you got to see Mary Poppins!
Yes! and it has been filed away in my 'favorite memories" box. Whenever I think of Leon yelling out "I love you Mary Poppins" I smile :goodvibes

Ok yes I think we are truly family. Your leading up to actually leaving sounds just like me EXCEPT I will not trust my husband to do anything important.
Ron is very good at following my lists - in fact he asks for a list. Of course the list has to be very detailed and exact, but he does a better job with one than without one. He rather do all the work and see me relax for the trip because he knows how stress can trigger a fibro flare-up. And since they can last days - we don't want that happening!

I also have to make a list for the nanny of things to be sure are done so I can just come home from work, change and drive to DISNEY!!! Top of the nanny's list????? WEAR OUT MY BOYS! :goodvibes :lmao: I need a bit of quiet time in the car on the way there.
Have her take them swimming or run around the house 30 or 40 times :rotfl:

I will and wait until every stitch of laundry is done to be sure I'm not missing anything that I want to pack.
Yup same here!!

I also love Black Friday. Carter put a krink in my plans last year. He was born the Monday before Thanksgiving
Leon was born the Saturday after Thanksgiving - so that year was a bust too (I was already in the hospital - being induced 6 weeks early)

Now this year my mom and her husband are planning to come visit on Black Friday-I'm thinking of roping them in to watching my kids so I can go shop! :woohoo: If worse comes to worse, I'll shop on line
Online is just not the same... rope 'em in - that's what grandparents are for. That and spoilin your kids.

Alrighty...my PTR is up to date just for you! Plans for both Sept and Dec are there for your viewing pleasure. I've also fixed all of the photobucket links for you!! :flower3:
Thank you - it's great!

I like that candle thing - the therapist does breathing techniques with him - I think we will incorperate your candle thing.

Waiting for your update! :rotfl:

Corbin was looking at all of your pictures with me tonight. He thinks your parties are "way cool".

We could be professional Disney planners! In our "free" time we could do that. ;)

Shoot me an email when you have a second. I'll PM you my questions and you can email me the answers.

Have a great night!!!

Day 2
Saturday Nov 29th
Okay so since Day 1 is going to potentially be a late night, Day 2 will be a bit more laid back. The idea is that we get to sleep in till 9am.
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Did I say we? I mean, Ron will get to sleep in. As for me I will be either too excited  to be at Disney to sleep past 7am or Leon will wake up at 6am :upsidedowbecause no matter what time he goes to bed he still wakes up before 7am and always needs mommy to get up with him. Since we are having a late brunch at Chef Mickey’s reserved for 11:20am, I plan to have a light breakfast in the room.
I figure I'll spend the morning organizing our stuff in the room and finish decorating our window and door. I will keep Leon busy by giving him some Mr. Potato Heads to decorate for the window.
I forgot to mention this in my previous post:
This is an envelope I designed for him a while ago, which he will get on Day 1 when we head to DTD with $20 Disney Dollars inside…
buildyourownMrpotatoHead.png

And then we'll take a look around the resort before we have to return the rental car at 10:30am. (I do wish we could keep it the whole 9 days but $300+ is too steep for Ron, and I guess I agree. Still, with all the afternoon breaks I have planned, I just feel like it would be so worth it to not have to rely on buses. This is just the worse case scenario: but the UG says it takes 45min on the bus from POP to DTD, yet only 15min by car.)
10am- We’ll leave for the Disney Car Care Center to return the car and then take the shuttle to the Contemporary.
11:20am- Brunch with Mickey!!!! I can’t wait to see Leon’s face. I am hoping that if we get there earlier than that, we can get a seating right away. And although his B'day isn't till the following day, I will be letting him wear his B'day button all week (Is that bad,of me to do??). Hopefully he will get some star treatment.
12:30pm – or there abouts, we will hop on the monorail to the TTC where we will catch a bus back to the POP for a swim and possibly a nap. I will try to get us seated in front with the driver. (is there a fingers crossed smiley??) Somewhere in there we will eat lunch either in the room or at POPs cafeteria.
2:45pm – Take the bus to AK and catch the Jingle Jungle Parade at
3:45pm. This AK day will be dedicated to seeing as many shows as possible and squeezing in a few rides. AK will be open til 8pm this night so I hope to get most of the shows out of the way. Have a cheap early dinner either at Pizzafari or PetriFries
8pm – or earlier. Take bus back to POP grab a snack and a swim and put Leon to bed. Once he has safely passed out. I will have the Birthday Fairy do her thing.:cheer2: pixiedust: It’s dangerous I know….. putting up the décor with him sleeping there, in the same room. But it is tradition! (that's for you Joel) The B’day Fairy always comes and decorates the house for Leon while he sleeps. So SHHHHH!! I will put up streamers and a Birthday Banner that we use every year that says Happy Birthday Leon, along with plenty of balloons scattered all around the room. Along with a personalized invitation to MVMCP signed by Mickey and left by Tink.
I have been toying with making a Banner on the computer using Disney font, clipart and character signatures, but how does one create a long banner on the computer?
Anyhoo, I will also put together Leon's Birthday Gift from Mickey and then hide it somehow, so that it is ready when we leave the room the next morning, to put out after Ron and Leon safe clear the room. Then it's off to bed for me.

Hello Just finished reading your trip report and I really enjoyed it . I'm the one newtodis recommend to read your report. i got lots of great ideas from it . Thanks. I love the picture of your son with the big brown hat, he's a real cutie. Looking forward to reading more.

And actually I did actually say Poop, poop, & more poop but that was because there were children present as the day progressed into night and the kiddies disappeared the language changed to something like F!, F!, Effiddy!, F! and some other choice words!!

Get ready to spew some soda!!

Going back over your post reminded me of an "incident" with my then 3 -year old DD at her day care ...

I picked her up one afternoon (which I usually don't do ...) and the Asst. Director called me over with a very serious expression on her face. :confused3 "We had a little problem with Danielle today", she said. "We were working on a craft project - and she apparently was having some difficulty with it - and shouted out 'Oh, s**t!!'"

And -of course - she was looking at me like it was my fault for using such language .. when it was actually the DW's fault!!:rotfl: (It slipped out ... maybe ... :lmao:)

I didn't have the heart to tell her ... but later than night, when discussing the incident with the DW, I said my response to the Asst. Director should have been something along the lines of:

"Sunoofabi***!! If I've told her once, I've told Vicki a thousand times not to use such $#!@^*! language around Danielle!!" and so on ... I could only imaging the expression on her face if I had done that ...

I saved the "incident report" in the DD's "memory book" - her first official, documented act of cursing!! And in the proper context!! :rotfl2::lovestruc

Now - go clean the soda off the wall ...

Let him wear the button everyday!!!!

Love the idea of the birthday fairy coming while he is asleep!

Too funny! My son came into the kitchen at his grandma's house one day, when he was 3, stomped his feet and said, "D$%^it, D^%$it, D@#$it." Then walked out. Funniest thing ever

OMG! You guys are too funny! I love the cursing stories! My DS4 has recently learned cursing (thanks to DH!). The other morning he looked at the shoes by the door and looked at me and said "D**n! Daddy forgot his shoes!" Then later that week, on his way to time out for some offense, he said "You're really pi**ing me off!" :lmao: I had to leave the room! Hopefully this will pass. We're certainly not potty mouths by any means-I didn't think we cursed all that much but I guess it's more than what I realized!

Jill-great updates.

Keep that birthday button on every day! My boys are wearing their buttons every day and it's not their actual birthday while we're there.

I love the Birthday Fairy. Can she come for my birthday too? ;)

Like the relaxing day. Chef Mickey's was so fun last time. Make sure Leon's birthday is on the ressie (I'm sure you've already done that!). Hopefully Mickey will send out a placemat or card or something with a cupcake!

Bad luck with the rental car. Keep looking out for a code. If we head down that way again, I'll look for a coupon book at the FL welcome center to see if there are any deals there. Have you tried anything like Hotwire or Orbitz or something to get a better deal?

My boys are the same way about sleeping in. They could be up until 11 and still be up at 5 the next morning. :scared1: That's why Grandma's coming! :rotfl: (just kidding.....kind of!) Grandma can take the little early risers for a walk or down to the pool for a bit so Mommy can sleep until at least 6....that's not asking too much right? So sorry about the people who have a room near us! :rotfl:

Love the envelope for Disney dollars-great idea!

As for making a banner---I'm not 100% sure. Can't you just set the page orientation to landscape and just type away? You'd have to tape the pieces of paper together to make the banner but it would be cool to make it yourself right?

Ok can't wait to hear more!! I've got to go get Corbin in from outside-he's playing outside in his pjs....yup I'm Mom of the Year! :rotfl: It was too much to fight about tonight.

Ok get back here and update us!

Welcome to the nuthouse! I am glad you can use some ideas. Thanks for the compliment about Leon. He sure can make me nuts but with eyes like that I just can't resit him!!

get ready to spew some soda!!
ready

... and the Asst. Director called me over with a very serious expression on her face. :confused3 "We had a little problem with Danielle today", she said.
Ahh, I've heard that line from the principle, teacher, campcousler, etc. too many times to count. Actually they said Leon, not Danielle. Cause, ah, well that would just be weird if they called Leon, Danielle.
"We were working on a craft project - and she apparently was having some difficulty with it - and shouted out 'Oh, s**t!!'"

Oooh oooh oooh my turn.....

When Leon was 3 1/4 years old, he walked up to me and is using one hand to fold the fingers on his other hand just so. He's trying to get it so that he can hold up one finger, but not any finger, a particular finger, the one that has the boo boo on it so that he can show it to me and I can kiss it. This is what he showed me. Which I promptly kissed ......... and then I went and got my camera and told him to show me again, when he asked why I told him I had to take a picture of it to show the doctor. I KNOW - I'M BAD!!!!! but it's a great picture!

Leon did tons of great story worthy things, check out his blog...Click here

Sorry I won't be abble to update till next week. I am leaving for Germany on Thusday with Leon. The next 2 days will leave no time for DISing - you know with that whole packing and repacking thing I do. Followed by the non sleeping thing I do the day before departure. We will be coming back on Monday. So ah yeah, this should be real relaxing! NOT!!!!

How was the trip??? Did you all get back safely and have a good time? What planning did you do on the plane ride there and back? ;) We need an update! :surfweb:

Well I'm back.....

The trip was good, we had fun! It was nice to have a Mother-Son trip, and Leon did very well for the most part. We flew outta JFK on Thursday and arrived in Düsseldorf of Friday. I got a sneak peak of what it was going to be like waiting in lines in WDW with Leon. Let's just say that between the lines for check-in, security, passport control, boarding, deboarding, more passport control, and baggage claim there was ALOT of complaining. But despite the complaining he was a trooper. He listened and followed directions very well. Yeah Pokemon!! I used a reward system involving Pokemon cards, his newest obsession. He only slept for about 3 hours on the flight though....

and I didn't sleep at all. We arrived in Düsseldorf at 8am on Friday. Once we got to my Aunt's house we ate breakfast and visited a while then I persuaded Leon to nap with me. Boy did we both need it. We got up at 3pm and ran an errand with my Aunt. That's to say my Aunt ran an errand and we went shopping. Everyone was very busy getting ready for the wedding so we only went to one store, which was the German equivalent to Costco. I picked up a bunch of chocolates and gummies along with some seasoning mixes and sauces. (Unfortunately one of the glass jars of sauce broke in my suitcase on the way home  to NY) We had dinner, watched a movie on our new portable DVD player and went to bed. We woke up fairly early on Saturday, which was the day of the wedding and scrambled around with everyone else to set up for the wedding. My family lives right on the Rhine River and just 4 doors down from them is the Boating Club where the reception was being held. Leon and I walked over to help out decorating the place. I blew up 99 balloons while Leon blew up one (over and over again).

Boy did my cheeks hurt -not to mention the headache. Half where hung all around the garden and walk way, the other half were hidden somewhere for a later surprise. The tables where all set up outside with white linens and flowers, paper lanterns hung in the trees, down by the dock we set up a canopy where the cocktail hour was going to be. At 2pm we walked back to the house to get dressed. I was asked to be the wedding photographer for the day since I've done a few weddings before, so we went to the docks to take pictures. Unfortunately I don't have any to show you from the actual wedding because my good camera went Kaput and I had to use the groom's camera, so he of course has the memory stick. I hope they will send me copies!! Thomas, my cousin and the bride's brother, along with his roommate, dressed in sailor suits and surprised Sonja and Rudiger (Bride & Groom) with a cruise down the Rhine River while we waited for the guests to arrive. Just as guests started to arrive the sky turned grey and it started to pour. Every one scrambled to help carry everything inside the club, including fully set tables. By the time we were done it was only slightly misting. Each quest was given a helium balloon with a card attached to it. The guests were to write down a special wish for the bride and groom, which would hopefully be mailed back to them after the balloons were released as they pulled in to the dock. We had the cocktail hour at the dock with appetizers and drinks while listening to numerous toasts. Then everyone headed to the Boats Haus for dinner and dancing. We had tons of fun. Leon met his second cousins from Germany and France, and despite the language barrier they played well together. This is Max from Paris, he is the greatest and bravest 15 year old I know. He has CF and only has a few more years left to live.

We partied till 3am, that’s when Leon passed out from pure exhaustion ( I took a great picture but alas i don't have it ...yet) and he had to be carried back to the house. Sunday we slept till noon, but it really wasn’t enough. Leon still tried to be patient throughout the day but was now having a much harder time of it. I tried to get him to nap but there was no way. He was itching to go down to the dock and throw rocks. I wasn’t too keen on the idea as his listening skills were now down to practically nil and I didn’t want him getting overly hyper and ending up in the water.
IMGP7572.jpg

We tried to help the others clean up after the wedding but it wasn’t working. By this time everyone had experienced Leon’s “accidents” in one form or another and agreed that it would be most helpful if I just keep Leon entertained rather than help clean up. Since we arrived Leon managed to break my Aunt’s car (he tore the top of the center console off), He broke a jar full of powder and a ceramic cup while trying to open a window, he needed two wardrobe changes and a shower in the middle of the wedding because twice he did not make it to the bathroom in time. First time he managed to pee all over the men’s room floor and the second time, poop managed to escape out of his shorts, down his leg and onto the floor just before making it into the men’s room. Sorry that was so graphic, but it gives you an idea of what I had to deal with. He threw about $12 into the river in the form of three 2 Euro coins that he says he was trying to skip like rocks before I stopped him. And he also managed to empty a huge basin of soapy water onto the laundry basket full of fresh out of the dryer linens. It was at this point that my Aunt said she now understands why I have it so tough and that maybe I should take him outside now. As terrible as this sounds I am glad someone recognizes what I have to go through on a regular basis. We ended up having a very nice Mother/Son day.
IMGP7692.jpg

I took him for a long walk to the jetties where he could skip all the rocks he wanted.

IMGP7786.jpg

We passed an Ice cream truck twice - once on the way to the jetties and the other on the way back. Leon treated us to ice cream with his remaining euros (the ones that didn’t end up in the water) both times.

The day was extra special to me because I got to show him the things that I did every summer in Germany when I was a kid. This time I had my small pocket camera with me, and I got plenty of pictures of this day.

We got back in time for dinner, followed by packing for our return flight home. I could not get Leon to go to bed till 11pm. Monday morning we woke up at 7am, had breakfast and headed straight to the airport. Once there we found out that all the flights from Düsseldorf to Frankfurt (where we had to make a connection to JFK) were cancelled. We had to wait 6 hours at the airport
IMGP7830.jpg

to try to get onto another airline to get home. Luckily we got the last seats.
IMGP7853.jpg

The flight home was rough. I think Leon had reached his threshold and just could not contain himself any longer. He was practically bouncing off the walls, or at least the seats. I had a hard time keeping my cool. It was good to see my family and Germany again. It was my first time back in 6 years; I hadn’t realized how much I missed it. But it is also very good to be home!!:cheer2:
The major down side to this trip is that it has triggered a MAJOR flare-up. I am completely drained and in lots of pain, I just can't seem to get back to normal. It was a whirlwind trip so it is to be expected. But now it is worrying me about how I will be able to handle WDW. Granted I won't have a time difference to worry about, but I will want to be on the go, go, go - so as not to miss anything (Yes I KNOW I can't see EVERYTHING, but I do want to see & do as much as I can). If I am lucky I won't have a flare-up till after we return but I know that if I am not careful I could run out of steam very early on, during our trip. Ron and I had discussed me getting a wheelchair or ECV before, but I kinda nixed it cause I felt a little funny about it. For one thing, FMS is an "invisible" disability, meaning I can be in major pain and totally drained of all energy but I look just fine to the rest of the world. It's not uncommon for people to think I am over-exaggerating about my pain or think I am just a complainer. Many people just don't get it. So to be in a wheelchair or ECV while I "look" perfectly healthy isn't all that appealing to me. I mean when I am fine, I am really fine. I am very active and can Zip, Zam, Zoom all over the place. I can be just fine one minute and broken in the next, and then fine again a few hours later. I don't want to be confined to my wheels the whole time but I also don't want to get the evil eye from folks thinking I might be faking it because I will want to be out of it when I can be. Which brings me to the other reasons I really don't want to have to go this route - I just don't want it to slow me down. And then there is the expen$e. I will really have to think about this one. Because if it is a consideration, we will have to budget for it. My preference would probably be the ECV just because it is zippier and I wouldn't have to rely on someone else to power it PLUS I am sure Ron won't want to push me the whole time, he himself has a bad knee. BUT the downside is that I couldn't just walk around if I wanted or needed to without having to backtrack for it. With a wheelchair at least I could get out and have Ron or I push it from place to place, while stretching my legs. And we could use it for Leon when need be. He had a lot of trouble being on his feet so much on this trip to Germany and the lines at the airport were intolerable with him complaining the whole time that he needed to sit down because his feet hurt. Before we left for Germany I had already been looking online for second-hand strollers. I figured if I found a cheap one to bring for Leon then we could save a bunch on the rental at the parks. The thing is, Germany gave me a reality check on how bad things can get for me. Granted it only hit me on the way home and after, but what if it hits during our WDW trip? We only want to have to deal with one set of wheels. What to do? What to do?
Do I get the ECV because that will be easier on Ron and I won’t have to rely on someone else to get me where I am going, even though it would probably be more confining? Or do I get a wheelchair so I can have a bit more freedom to get up and walk with it when I need to and also have the option to put Leon in it if necessary? OR do I just buy a used stroller for Leon so that not only can we use it in the parks, but I can use it to take him out of the park late at night when he will need it the most saving Ron from having to carry him out?
Ideally I do not want to need or use an ECV or wheelchair at all …….
