I thought I’d make a stand alone thread. We booked a lake view room at BLT. I wanted a standard view room but when I made the reservation they were all booked. When we checked in the resort was mostly empty and three days into my stay it dawned on me that I could have saved points by downgrading my room!! If you have a current reservation it may be worth seeing if rooms are open now that weren’t before.

I just did that for August...the SV showed up online a few days ago and I booked it.

Granted, it is before I get there, but it does tell people should be checking.

I did the same for October,..went from garden view to standard view at BWV!

I changed a BCV studio to a BWV 1-br standard. A few more points, but a nice upgrade to a 1-br, and not as many points as a 1-br upgrade at BCV would have been.

As long as your left over points don't go into Holding. It would just depend on how they are treating Holding when you want to change. Normally, since you cancelled the first reservation and used fewer points to make the replacement reservation less than 31 days out, the left over points would go into Holding.

This is a great point. When the rules go back to normal, you don't want to downgrade inside of 31 days to "save points" because those "saved" points would just go into Holding. The current practice of Holding being waived could end at any time.
