I am wondering if anyone has ever done the See and Sea Island Tour on the eastern cruise? Can anyone give me your opinion on this? I am thinking of doing this excursion at St. Maarten with my 12 year old daughter. Thanks for any input, Kim

My Mom did this tour last year. She went alone as we were doing something else. As I recall she thought it was just "okay" --nothing to rave about. HTH

Lisa, thanks for taking the time to respond. Since we haven't made up our mind yet it is good to hear either positive or negative feedback. Thanks again, Kim

:wave:Kim,

Rae519 just went on the See and Sea Excursion this past May, I will send this thread to her, I'm sure she will reply.

We did the See and Sea tour in May of 2001 and liked it. It wasn't the best tour we've ever been on, but it was a great way to see the whole island.

Hi!
Sorry I didn't see this, but Andy did tell me about it.

Mom (74), Michael (7) and I took this tour in May and found it very enjoyable.

There was a huge bus (no bathrooms on it) with A/C - we were given a very interesting history of the island and saw various places of interest on the way. No you can't really see the nude sunbathers at the beach!!!

The Sea part is fabulous - we get on a boat/sub and are taken to the coral reef where a diver goes in the water and gets the fish to come close to the windows. We also saw turtles. A fruit/or/rum punch is served on deck on the return trip.

Then we went to the capital of the French side - saw the market place, used the public restrooms and just hung out for a while. Again, the trip back was very interesting with several stops for pictures.

The bus tour takes you all over the island and does give a great overview of the surrounding areas. I highly recommend it as does both Mom and Michael.

Bring water with you though - we found a great container at Walgreens under $10.00 that we used.

We also did the St. John tour in an open jeep/buggy with others - that was another very good tour but again, bring water with you!
I also brought snacks for Michael which helped him curb his hunger!!!!!

We did the See & Sea tour last August. It was me, dh and ds 9.

rae519 discribes it in great detail. We found the boat part a little crowded when you go to the bottom of the boat. Quite a few of the kids and some of the adults were a little queasy. All in all it was a good but not a great excursion.

DH (38) and myself (37) went on the Sea & Sea last September (2002) and we thought it was an enjoyable tour, though we didn't enjoy shopping the French side of the island as much as we thought we would. The shops were very expensive but very nice just the same. Not my kind of shopping (I'm a bargain hunter!). I think it would be a good tour for a kid because the bus has a/c, and they get to see the whole island plus view the bottom of the ocean in a safe environment.

And I agree -- bring a small bottle of water with you, although there is some on the boat, I think. I think we stopped at a street vendor and bought some.

Have fun!

Hi,
We did the S & S in Dec, 2001. We enjoyed it but wish the Sea part of it was a bit longer. We then went to St. Thomas and did the Atlantis sub excursion. It was very similar to the Sea portion of the St. Marten S & S only better. We saw tons more in a natural environment, no diver feeding the fish. It was a bit more money per person but lasted lots longer underwater. I would suggest saving up for the sub if the underwater part was really what you were after. The S & S was a nice overview of both sides of St. Marten but you're basically on your own on the French side.

Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

Yes, take your bonine and/or sea bands - I forgot it did get a little rocky for me. But then again, I am very vulnerable to motion sickness. Mom and Michael were fine!

It was probably from all that shrimp still swimming around inside of you!!!

Thanks everyone for your replies. It was very helpful to get different opinions on this. We are considering the submarine tour also. Thanks again, Kim

Ask and ye shall receive - even some stuff you didn't ask for and we are always off topic, in case you hadn't noticed!!!!
