Security

If some looney really wants to blow something up, they will find a way to do so. I feel as safe at WDW as any other public place.

Some people feel that Disney could do more with park security...if I had to wait 2 hours to get through security for any tourist destination, would it be worth it, especially if it was a long trip and had to go through a 2 hour screening several days in a row?

I just saw a sign at Universal but they aren't in yet. They are saying that you will be going through metal detectors so please leave anything that you don't need in your vehicles. They aren't put in yet but I wonder if Disney is going to follow suit. Normally after one park starts something the rest follows.

That's the bottomline. Terrorists have proven to be imaginative enough to surprise anyone. If it will happen, they won't budge. It happens. If the CIA missed a gigantic terror attack, it is very possible that a Disney CM will too.

Just head out and have fun. Live a day at a time and don't give in to their threats. when our time comes, nothing stops it but it is best to live each day not in fear of when it will be your last.

If we are terrorized, they win.

Im not scared of the terrorists. If one gets on my plane Im not going down without a fight. any idiot can come up with the idea to highjack a plane and fly it into a building (my cousin is a NYC firefighter who lost 10 men that he worked with at the WTC) and I personally think they are all a bunch of idiots. (the terrorists, not the firefighters). I dont think they have all the technology that the news says they have, they live in caves in the desert for christ sake. No electricity or running water in those, is there? I realize they dont all live like that and that they do have technology. They are crazy enough to walk into a park and blow it up. But if I worry about it all the time it would drive me crazy. We have to go on living our lives just like we always did. IF we are afraid to fly and go to theme parks it would ruin tourism and the economy and I think that is what they are trying to do. Im not going to let them scare me. I am going to have the time of my life in disney and I cant wait to go. Just be cautious. If you see a briefcase laying somewhere by itself, get away and tell someone. Or any other suspicious looking package, duffle bag etc... Now that I have reread this post I think I sound like an idiot but I wont let them scare me into not wanting to leave my house. Im a proud american and I love my country.

Universal put in metal detectors for Halloween last year, and neither Disney nor SeaWorld followed suit for their special hard-ticket events. Whether or not metal detectors become a way of life would depend on how long the war, if there is war, lasts and what kind of war it is.

We just returned from our Disney trip earlier today. I was alittle hesitant about making this trip. We left the day after the security level was raised. Each day when we got to the parks I was nervous, but within 15 minutes I was into the Disney magic and forgot about my worries.
However, we were at MGM on Thurs (2/13) and security was out like crazy. You couldn't turn around without bumping into a security guard. Also, they had some sherriff's there as well. I was alittle more nervous this day because of this. I am not sure why the sherriff's were present (and it was all day), but it did keep it in the front of your mind.
We are planning to go back at the end of March. I don't want to let the terrorist ruin my life.

The security in the parks seems to be there but it's the (lack of)security on the monorails & resorts that worries me.

I think security is a lot tighter than you think. We go on average 2 times a month and often we camp at FW in our popup. On the check out day we pull the camper to the parks. Several times we have gone back to the car to fix a lunch and eat. Every time security has come to check on us. They have never said anything to use but a van will drive by about every 5 minutes while we are at the camper.

On one of our trips last summer at AK I had rolled my red poncho up after a rain. I went to a garbage can and put an ice cream wrapper in the trash with the same hand I was holding the poncho in and immediately a security guard came from somewhere and opened the trash to see what I had put in and then wanted to see my poncho. They were very polite and discreet and when they saw all I had was a poncho rolled up they went on their way. I had no idea that I was being watched or from where the security guard came. I think Disney is doing what is practical. After all, they have a huge stake in stopping anything from happening on property.
