This board is so neat! I should have joined a long time ago! I had a question about security for tent campers. Wondering if anyone has ever had any problems with security since you're gone almost all day and night - especially if spending lots of time at the parks. We're not planning on bringing valuables anyway, but were just curious. I'm a worrier! :scared:

This will be my first tent camping experience at the Fort - but no matter where I camp, I would lock away anything valuable while I'm away from the tent. I think just common sense - WDW or not. But I know, that didn't answer your question, so how is security there? Anyone?

I have tent camped at WDW many times and have NEVER had a problem with my general camping stuff being bothered. Outside my tent, I had chairs, tables, a fridge, a cooler, lanterns, shoes, etc. Inside my tent not locked up at all was clothing, linens, a fan, etc.

I usually bring a laptop with me and it stayed in my tent also, but it was locked up inside a footlocker. (The footlocker was also locked to a tree by using a long cable that went out a vent opening in the back of my tent.)

Other valuables were kept on my person. (Camera, wallet, etc.)

Also, if you have your car with you, just lock valuables in the vechicle.

As far as personal security, folks cannot get into the campground with a vehicle unless they are a guest there, and security does patrol the campground, and the comfort stations lock from midnite to 6am and you must have your KTTW card to access them during those hours.

I wonder if last years KTTW card works this year on the bath houses

We tent camp at the fort for 2 weeks and we had no problem at all, nobody touched our stuff, we left things out on our trailer, shoes, bikes, towels, ponchos, scooters, fridge in our tent we left our personal stuff, cameras, laptop, Ipods, the kids left the Nintendo's DS, money and everything was just the way we left it, we were gone for the whole day and some days we got back around 2 AM.

Thanks for all the replies. I always take my laptop everywhere, but this might be one trip that I don't. It will be our first time camping at Disney, so just want to be safe I think, but all the comments do make me feel a little better!:rotfl2:

You can also get a safety security box (free of charge) at the front desk and leave your laptop there when you're gone.

My mom was worried about her cameras and she locked them in the car at night, I didn't.

I've never tried it, but I doubt it. One time I was walking around Coronado Springs and needed a restroom. There was a restroom by a pool and it was locked. My All-Stars KTTW card did not work on this CS restroom.

I've never had a problem or have heard of one, but I would not tempt anyone in these hard times. Up here around D.C. scooters are becoming a target :scared1: and heck folks are steeling 100lb man hole covers that are only worth $6 to $15 :confused3 not to mention punching vehicle tanks for their contents. Now the gent that stole the tanker truck full of fuel was really ambitious. :woohoo:

Is the safety deposit box left at the front desk (basically like a locker), or do you take it back to your campsite with you?

I was hoping Rhonda would show up again and tell us the story of the missing cooler ;)

It is left there, just like in a bank, you have a key and they have a key.

It's left at the front desk like a locker.
