I was at WDW this past weekend, and did some Christmas shopping for my kids. This was Friday night, and it was VERY busy at WoD. I paid for my items, the CM packaged up what I was having shipped home, and I was on my way. I didn't really pay attention to what the CM was doing. Well, I just got the box, and on one of my daughter's items, he left on the security tag...the one that basically says you will be covered in ink if you try to break it. I am going to call them tomorrow (when my son is at school, since he's old enough to know what's going on), to see what they say, but thought I'd check in here in the meantime to see if anyone has any other ideas or suggestions. TIA! :flower:

Can you take the item to one of the department stores in your area and ask them to remove the tag for you?

I wonder if they'll let you take it to a local Disney Store to remove it??? Chances are they might just send you another one of the item free of charge...

This happened to me on our New Year's trip. I ended up shipping the item back to WDW so they could remove the tag. I've read that some people have taken items, along with the proof of purchase receipt, to a local store that uses similar techology to have the security tag removed. I decided to return mine to WDW instead of spending time running from store to store to see if the tag fit their machine. Good luck in finding a quick solution to this one! It's awfully irritating, I know. ::yes::

Now, this is my favorite idea thus far...the part about them sending me another one for free, that is. :teeth: Unfortunately, though, my nearest "local" Disney store is over 1 hour away (IF it even still exists there...I have no idea).

I would phone WDW merchandise guest services at 1-407-363-6200 and explain what happened....I wouldn't be at all surprised if they sent out new items and told you to keep the ones you have. I have found that they are really great when it comes to backing up there merchandise!

Sorry, unfortunately, The Disney Store won't be able to remove it. Our sensor machines are completely different (totally different shape and not made to remove the ink sensors - we don't have ink sensors in the stores). We've had people many times come in with the ink sensors left on their clothes from their trip and there's nothing we can do. We don't even know of another store in our mall that has a similar sensor machine. We always suggest for them to call WDW to see what can be done.

Oh no!! I have been on the DIS too long! I assumed when I clicked on this thread that Security Tags had something to do with the Tab Fairy! She now gives out new and improved tags... security tags!

Maybe she can help you anyways?? :)

DD got a shirt for Christmas a few years ago from my brother and sister-in-law who live in Minnesota. It had the security tag on it. It also had the price tag which said it came from Bloomingdales. We must have gone to ten different stores before we found one that had the same type of tag so that it could be removed. If it hadn't had the Bloomingdale tag on it, I'm sure they wouldn't have done it for me. They would have thought we were trying to pull a fast one. Since there were no Bloomingdales in Kansas City, they believed me.

I'd also call WDW merchandising. Good luck!

I have had this happen from other stores. I would call a few stores and see what kind of security tags they use and find one that has the same. If it is those larger round ones most stores should be able to get that off for you with that little gun thing.

When I worked at Macy's at the Mall of America a customer got home and found a security tag on an item. He made a manager from the store drive to his house, in Madison, WI to get the tag off.

Try your Disney store, but when this happened to us, their machine was for a different type. I think I ended up at a JCPenney and they took it off for me......I did go in armed with my receipt so they didnt think I had shoplifted it from somewhere else in the mall.

On a related note, this happened to me on a purchase from Filenes (Dept store in northeast), I returned to the store and they took care of it, but told me that I should have just called them because its their policy to send a manager out to your house to take care of it for you.
