security line protocol

Is the process any different for the "Early Boarding" line? (jetblue)

FYI I flew out of Orlando last month. I had extra speed from Jetblue. The extra speed line was just as long as the regular line. It took me almost an hour to get through security at 6 am. They were doing this dopey thing half way through the security line. There was a TSA person with a touch screen that had an arrow on it. You touch the screen and the arrow said which way you were to go in the line. There was hardly anyone in the line to the right but the screen was telling everyone to go to the left.

I had early boarding at Logan but since I changed my flight, and did standby, I wasn't able to use it there. I did use it at MCO and it worked out great.
You bypass the major standing in line, but there usually isn't a special designated scanner for this line. You get into the line, get to the TSA person more quickly to get your boarding pass scanned, and then join the existing line for the actual scanner/conveyor belt.
I had a very short wait at MCO....of course there were all the dirty looks I got from those in the regular line! I think it took me a total of about 15 mins, start to finish, maybe a bit less.

They had the overheads signs fouled up as well. The line that said more speed was being used for precheck.

Thanks for all the helpful tips!
Our flight went smoothly, including security.
There were lots of other clueless people in line too so we did okay by being prepared.
I had the tripod strapped to the side of my backpack, no problems.
We took the train down to Florida a week ago, flew back this morning. I have to say, other than the stress about security, the flying was much smoother, and of course, we got home in 3 hours vs 24. So we will likely try flying again soon!

The line to the right was for TSA Pre-Check.

They are allowing a small random number of passengers who are not enrolled use that line. That's what the arrows are for, to randomly select passengers. I did get picked to use it, it was nice to not take off shoes or jacket, not take my laptop out. But I had my hands swabbed twice for explosives, once at the beginning of the line and once after going through the metal detector, they use a random selection for that. Ironically, I got picked again in Pittsburgh two days later when I was going on a business trip. Once again I had to get my hands swabbed twice.

Because Orlando is a busy airport I suggest giving yourself 2 to 3 hours to get to your plane safely. If you have an early morning flight, say earlier the 8 ish, then getting in earlier then say 5 may not work because Security may not be open at that time. I run into that problem here in my home airports. Orlando was one of the first pilot airports for the new Clear Me / pre-check lanes for faster security checks. i've joined the Clear me program because they are putting it in my local airports before the end of the year. One of the things I noticed while going through security at MCO is that the supposedly faster lines tend to be slower then the slower lines so just be prepared.

If you get to the airport less the 3 hours before your flight just go through security before you think about getting something to eat because the eateries have a tendency to be slower and you cant buy anything to drink before going through security if you plan to take what ever your purchase with you to the plane.
