Security Bag Check?

I'll never forget when I worked at a nascar track checking bags/coolers for glass. I had to stick my hand all in the cooler digging around. I thought my hand was gonna get frost bite lol

You put all your electronics and keys, anything metal in a clear plastic bag provided by Disney. The cm does not touch anything
You put your backpack back on and walk through the metal detector

Does this mean loose ice is back in?

Anything and everything metal must be put in the plastic bag or else it will set off the metal detector

If having someone lightly touch something in your bag is an issue, you probably don't want to go down to WDW right now? People will be touching everything down there, just like always: the merchandise in the stores, the ropes in the queues, the bathroom stalls, the chairs at the restaurants, the attraction seats, etc. Sure, some of that stuff will be sanitized, but not constantly.

Yeah bag check guy is just another possibility. It's going to be a challenge to keep our hands to ourselves in ride queues and stores. Having sanitizer on hand is a must do!

And just a good tip, when you go to your first park and get this clear plastic bag do not throw it away, then you can be ready to go through bag check the rest of your stay. These bags are also given at any Disney gift shop so you could also just get them in your hotel in advance, out all your electronics and metal stuff in there and head to bag check without having to fumble once you are there

What is considered enough metal that it needs to be bagged? A lot of purses/bag have multiple zippers and strap buckles? What about coins (which often can be found spilled and all over the bottom of purses) ? I'm sure there are lot of things in purses/bags that have at least a small amount of metal like sunglasses, pens etc. Is there some guideline posted on what is enough metal that it needs to be pulled out? I don't even know why I'm asking because we have no plans to go to WDW right now with the current situation, but I got really curious and we do plan to return at some point!

I think I read online somewhere that Disney is testing some sort of scanner that one can walk through at a slow but not completely stopped pace which would allow them to screen without sticking their hands in everything.

In case that doesn’t pan out, I have a clear plastic tote bag and purchased some small plastic bags like the TSA approved 3-1 bags. I figure I can remove the small bags, they can see everything without touching it, and I can wipe down the little bags with a wipe before placing them bag in the big bag. If that seems too slow, I can throw them back in the big bag and just be sure to wipe down all the bags, including inside of big bag, when/where I can do so without causing a traffic jam.

I read the same thing...about the new scanners....and that they will be able to pinpoint exactly WHERE they need to check for the "abnormality" in your bag, so they don't have to go through EVERY bag...

I left my wallet (loungefly zippered wallet) inside my backpack and the metal detector didn't go off, I also left one charging cable (cause I forgot it) I took out my umbrella, phone, portable chargers and keys. My backpack is also a loungefly with zippers and metal buckles
The great things is that you can preplan and have all these items out in a separate plastic bag ahead of time so no need to fumble through the process once there

It needs to be a ferrous/magnetic metal to set off the metal detector. It’s like the walk-through metal detectors at the airport, not the stand in body scanners. Coins, precious metals, and stainless steel won’t set it off. I have had park buttons set them off though, but any metal on my purse, including zippers. Metal water bottles won’t shouldn’t set it off either, but they won’t want you taking that through. Not sure about pens; it depends.

Question . . . What if you are using a clear backpack, clear tote or clear crossbody - one of those stadium type bags that are completely clear? Do you still need to separate out things like cell phones into a separate bag or just use that as the clear bag? I have a stadium crossbody I had planned to use if it is acceptable, but will use my usual Dooney if it’s not. Also, do you know if RFID blocking wallets set off the detectors and would need to be in the separate bag? Thanks!

That’s OK. It doesn’t take up a lot of room in the suitcase, and it is handy in the afternoon rain for keeping things dry, so I will probably bring it and try. The only thing metal I would have on me is my phone (which is in a Mophie case, so I don’t need separate charging accessories). Maybe someone else going to some of the previews will use one and report back.

Im going tomorrow and I'll ask the cm, not sure how accurate the answer will be since rules at security are pretty fluid

I went yesterday and brought one of the clear runDisney bags with me. I had my lose stuff in there (rain poncho and umbrella, along with a couple of sundries) and they had me take my cell out of my shorts pocket and put it in the bag. I had my small purse (Harvey's waist pack) and my water bottle on my shoulder. They only took my clear bag to the side and I had no issues. The issues came later when I got sick from the heat...

Great idea. That's what we do with our luggage. Everything gets packed in giant ziploc bags so when tsa wants to touch the contents of my bags, they aren't touching my items directly. I suck the air out and fit more than I would otherwise. I then reuse those bags for dirty laundry.

Bag Check Update from today. You did not have to put anything in a plastic bag. You kept everything with you through the scanner. They said that if you had an umbrella, hold it out in front of you. My daughter held her insulated mug in her hand, so I don't know if it would have set it off if it was in a bag. But, it was very easy and fast.
