Security Background Check - Did You Know?

I’m guessing this is a bankruptcy and financial type check. I can’t imagine it’s a criminal background check.
Heck, they cannot control who comes in the parks. ANYONE can purchase a park hopper through a vendor and off they go. And what if you rent your points?

A few months ago this came up and it appears we're are agreeing to a criminal background check.

For what purpose? I understand (and agree) the desire to keep the bad dudes out, but how does that jive with cash guests and regular ticket folks?

It is apparently a federal requirement for major financial transactions. I have rental properties, and whenever I do a refi, they run one. Heck, if I make a deposit in person at my credit union, rather than online or through an ATM, I have to show ID now. I remember when I had some tenants that would take and deposit their rent checks directly to my account. I'm guessing that would be a no-no now. But I use a property manager now, and they deposit the rents to my account electronically.

Those of us who have apparently been background checked when buying directly have agreed to it in the voluminous paperwork and have given them our social security numbers. If you haven’t done those things with DVC, I would suggest contacting Background Investigations, Inc because something else is going on here. Disney/DVC would not and could not conduct background checks on every individual who requests a DVC DVD.

Went to their website and it stated that the person has to be informed which we were not. Will call Monday because we have grandchildren today.

If you only requested a DVD, it would seem very odd for Disney to run a check. I have a feeling something else may be going on. Did you apply for any new credit cards, or anything? It could also be that someone falsely used your Social Security number...but then the company apparently has your phone number? Weird.

No, now new credit applications. Received a call from DVC about more in depth info about membership. Maybe Disney ran a credit check before contacting me? We do have an excellent credit score and used to be DVC members.

IIRC, it's the Patriot Act /anti-money-laundering.

I just checked the paperwork for both of my resales. I never gave my SS# or a copy of my license.

It doesn't make sense that they would let someone buy an AP or buy DVC, travel to WDW and then deny them entrance. Wouldn't the background check happen before purchase? I'm not buying it. I think we would have read about this happening to someone.

And if someone had a Fico score of 600, they can't buy an AP?

Definitely NOT true. :o
(Thankfully not an issue anymore)

The second level requires a SSN and is a financial check, This is level that Disney is running if you are DVC.

Except that they don’t have that info on me. I wasn’t on any paperwork for financing DVC, and didn’t give them my social. And that info wasn’t requested with the gratuitous transfer last year.

So...

That during the purchase process for DVC or Annual Pass; Disney runs a security background check on you?

For the Disaster Recovery part of my job I got a briefing today from Disney Security/Business Continuity teams and during the presentation they mention both of these specific items.

Disney did state that if they found something that they did not like in the background check; they will meet you at the gate (Annual Pass) the first time you use the pass or the DVC resort (DVC check-in), return your funds, and then escort you off property.

is this just DVC and pass holders? Nothing on resort or park hopper guests?
