Disney execs/imagineers/etc. have stated that Animal Kingdom is a park where they like guests to discover things on their own. Much of the entertainment around AK is not even listed on the daily time schedules. I heard once about there being secret trails around AK that are not included on park maps, but they want guests to discover them for themselves. Does anybody know of any 'secret' spots/trails/paths/sections of AK you've stumbled upon yourself? Post your pics if you've got 'em! :wizard:

I have one.

The yellow line in my map detail is a path that is simply unmarked.
(Disregard the green and purple lines on the map.)
The best way to find it is to go INTO the (marked) EXIT PATH from Its Tough to be a Bug.
The path features some bird species and a very nice "up-close" waterfall.

This path can get you across the park when the main roadway is closed for the parade.

I enjoy one that you enter near the ITTBAB Fast Pass machines. Just walk into the area behind the machines, explore, enjoy.

This is a picture of an "alternative path" , not very secret.....just unmarked, from Africa towards Asia.

It is above (further from the water) the main path. But visable from the main path if you are looking at it.There is a nice gazebo with chairs towards the exit by the Asia end.

Just to reduce confusion...

All of the replies in this thread (so far) are in regard to the same path.
:)

Actually I think Judy's is the short one that's offset from the Africa-to-Asia path to the north (by where Devine hangs out), just north of your purple line.

Yup, you're right.

Here is a little secret area I found. I don't remember exactly where its at, but I do know that its near some restaurant.

Also, if you stand on that bridge and face the opposite direction, this is the view:

You can also see the Giant Galapagos Tortoise on that trail as well as the African Crested Porcupine (sometimes). It is also the location of the Kid's Discovery Club for Discovery Island. Just look for an off-shoot trail that leads to a little island covered by a large umbrella. They usually have several invertebrate species down there (tarantulas, spiders, roaches, etc.).

Another secret path is one that just borders the front side of the tree. To enter this trail, you can start either on a path behind the fastpass machines for It's Tough to be a Bug or enter beside where Terk or Flik do meet n greets by the temp tattoo stand next to Pizzafari.

On this path, you can get an excellent view of the Grey Kangaroos as they usually rest right next to the path. This also affords some of the best up-close tree viewing. During one part of the path, you can also find a large root where "ants" have carved out holes that when you look through them, point straight at the large ant on the tree.

Wow, thanks for the info. In all my visits I have never noticed those trails. I can't wait for my next visit to explore.

We can't wait to see them!
