secret to haunted mansion

What is going on at the preshow in haunted mansion? I say the pictures are going up the the room is not moving. My sister says we are going down what is the answer?

In Disneyland, the building the ride was put in was too small, so they built the room in a way to actually go down underground for the ride. In DisneyWorld, they had plenty of room, but wanted to keep the same effect, so the roof goes up.

Yes and no... the actual reason that Disneylands is an elevator is because the ride building is split by the Train Tracks. The Foyer and Stretchrooms are above the train tracks and the actual ride is below them.

But otherwise correct. WDW's room is "actually stretching" (called "the stretch rooms" by the CM's) and Disneyland's is "actually moving" (called the ER...which stands for elevator room, by the CM's).

Thanks everyone, the tour guide would not tell us the secret. Not sure why but I knew I could find out on the DIS.

the answer is obvious, Disney doesn't give away the secrets because it's a secret! Actually, it's the same reason magicians never tell how the trick is done. The mystery is really 90% of the effect. Once someone tells you how simple most tricks are, all the wonder is lost. Typically, upon hearing how something is done, you hear, "Oh, is that all it is?". You can hear how it takes all the magic away. For folks who really want to know, they can buy the trick at a magic store, or search the Internet for secrets to Disney Magic.
