For those of you who already do this; did you have to pay a $19.95 fee up front? Is it worth it? I'm looking at SnagAJob.com and am hesitant to send a fee until I know more about it from others.

You should absolutely never have to pay a fee to do mystery shopping. Go to volition.com and that should give you a good start on where you can apply to do mystery shopping.
Also, I was looking at snagAjob, and there was one company on there:
National Healthcare Discount......stay away!!!
I applied for a job with them, and got the call from them....they require you to pay a monthly fee of $18.95 for an access code for your phone, and a $19.99 deposit. I told the recruiter I was not interested. I then researched them online, and found a lot of complaints from people that are already working for them.
Just a heads up!!

I checked volition.com, the information there is overwhelming and checking out a number of sites I still can't tell much. Can anyone who does this send me a pm with what company to try first? I am in central Illinois.

never never pay to sign up!!! There are literally HUNDREDS of companies out there that do not charge a fee. Go to www.mom-mom.com - click on making extra money and have a ball filling out all the apps. Anyone wanting you to pay them $$ is a scam.

Two good mystery shopping companies to start with are Shop N Check and Service Intelligence because you can self assign jobs. If you go to volition.com, there is a list of mystery shopping companies with links to their websites. At each companies website should be a link to fill out an independent contractors agreement to sign up with that company.

The information on volition.com is vast. But, as a Gold Certified Mystery Shopper, I spent months searching, applying to companies and searching for jobs. That is the way it is done. It is the process, no on is going to say, hi, I work for this and that and these are all my companies, come work for them with me, and be my competition. It takes lots of leg work to be a shopper. There are no short cuts. Another website to try though is www.mysteryshop.org. That will help you with companies in your state. Good luck.
