Secret Porthole rooms and upgrades

I was wondering if anyone had booked a secret porthole room (cat 10 - inside) and then received an upgrade. Could you end up in a cat 9 down on deck 1 or 2!! I would much prefer deck 5 myself. Has it happened to anyone? Can you request NOT to be upgraded?

Hmmmm, that's an interesting question!!!
If I were in a SPR, I surely wouldn't want an upgrade to stateroom 2626 (over a cargo door). We've been under the clubs before and that wasn't too bad, so it might be worth a big, unobstructed porthole near the water (I love being as close to the water as possible). As for deck 1, I know most people don't find the dual portholes to be too appealing, but I think they would be interesting just because I've never been in that type of stateroom before. But if I were near the gangway, the hallway traffic would probably drive me bonkers...I love engine noise, but people trooping through the hallways drives me crazy.
It will be interesting to see what other people think on this topic. Stateroom preference is such a subjective thing.

I was wondering the same thing!! We booked our connecting SPH rooms 1 1/2 years ago and I wouldn't want to go down in the ship either. I am curious as to whether or not you could refuse the "upgrade" if it wasn't to your satisfaction. We sail 6-27 on the Wonder.

We have actually had that happen to us!!! We had a secret porthole room, cat. 10. And were upgraded to a cat. 9 on deck 2. I was soooooo disappointed. We were right above where everyone gets on and off the ship at the ports. I didn't realize where it was until we got to our room, so I felt like we were stuck with it. But I would have rathered stayed with our secret porthole room!

Oh my god!

I wouldn't want that to happen to us. Has anyone ever stated "NO UPGRADES!" on there reservations. Does that work? I know people can get picky about their rooms.

would not take the upgrade unless it was cat 7 or above.......

I didn't realize once you requested and booked a specific room # you could just be upgraded - does anyone know if DCL checks with you before issuing an upgrade? I think I would scream if I lost my SPR room which I reserved as soon as the books opened, 1 1/2 years ahead of our 8/13/04 cruise, just to get!!
