I was wondering if anyone had stayed in this SP room recently? I would love to hear your input. Exactly how much noise is to be expected from the service elevators...especially on the last night of the cruise? Keep you up all night noise, or reasonable noise that I can likely block out w/a white noise?

While I'm really super excited about the room - I am nervous as I'll be traveling w/a 2 year old who is a SUPER light sleeper.

Either way I LOVE SPR's and I'm doing the HAPPY, Happy DANCE! :Pinkbounc

:thumbsup2 We stayed in 5022, and yes, it was noisy sometimes, but it was worth the savings. ON the last night, I don't know if it was the luggage or the people above us, but it sounded like people were jumping or throwing things on the floor. There were workers outside sometimes, but overall, it was a great room...

We stayed in this room in October, and we never heard any noise. I was absolutely delighted with our SPR's.

we had 5522 & 5524 (friends G-Ma had 5020) for our January 2003 Western cruise. I really don't remember us having more noise in this area than other decks/rooms we stayed at. The savings and location were perfect. I enjoyed being forward and on the same deck as the kids clubs...no elevators or stairs when we picked up our DD's. You'll love these rooms - I tried for our 07 sailing...they were already gone - oh well!

Thanks for the input everyone; the consensus seems to me that the room is worth the savings in $$ for a bit of noise.
Anyone else stay in this or another SPH room recently?

:surfweb:

I stayed in this room in March and two other times in the past. I have never been bothered by any noise coming from the service elevator.

We will be staying in room 5522 on the May 6-13 Western Cruise and I will be happy to e-mail you with an update when we get home. :hourglass
19 days and counting!

We are staying in 5022 for the 10 night in September so thanks for the info about the last night!

In the past we have stayed on deck 6 above this room and I remember that luggage gets stored in that area opposite rooms 6024 & 6026 on the final night, so that is where the noise probably comes from.

I haven't read as much about 5524 but would love input. I know it is the most obstructed of the 3 but will we LOVE it??
Thanks! :Pinkbounc

Hey jjones! Keep it nice for us as we have it and 5524 on the May 20-27 Western!

Hi! Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread, but can someone explain the secret porthole rooms to me? I am all new to this, remember! :rotfl:

Hi Dreamcometrue ... I'm new too, but I do know that a SPH (Secret Porthole Room) is a Category 10 Inside room with a Porthole with an obstructed view. There are only 6 on each ship (cabins 5020, 5022, 5024, 5520, 5522 and 5524). They are hard to come by as they go fast. You get a porthole at an inside price. I managed to get one for the Med cruise, so I'm jumping for joy! :Pinkbounc

thanks for explaining MJGirl.

Now...which of these rooms is the one with the least obstructed view? Does anyone know? I will look into booking one when the time comes.

I know that 5524 and 5024 are the most obstructed. I can't seem to post a link to photos of all views, however, if you go to (editted for content) (no spaces), then click on secret porthole rooms, you'll find a link to photos!

Does anyone know why the link won't work? the url keeps getting replaced with **** as shown below!

Here are photos of the SPRs. The exterior photo shows the three on one side of the ship. There are 3 more on the other side (5020,5022,5024).

We have Magic's 5522 booked for the Dec 2007 cruise!

thanks for the help! Are they the same for the Magic?

The SPR's are great! We stayed in connecting 5522 and 5524 on our Feb 11, 7-day Western. They are a perfect location for the Kids Clubs and even though we were right across from the service elevator, it was very quiet. I would book these cabins again in a heart beat. Since they are completely forward, you get very little traffic in the hallways which is nice. Don't let the pictures mislead you.---especially of 5524. It looks like the barrel obstructs everything. On the contrary, if you are seated on the couch and are looking out the porthole at that angle, you can see straight out to sea. As much as we would have liked a verandah and probably would have spent time on it if we had it, we found that we were only in the cabins to change clothes or sleep so the SPR's worked well for us.

Relax and enjoy!

We had 5522 last month! In-laws were next door in 5524. No problem with noise (although we could sometimes hear each other through the connecting door and that would be annoying if it wasn't someone you were traveling with...or I guess it could be annoying even if you know the people next door...depends on your traveling companions!)

We had a great view and FREE DAYLIGHT. Although there always seemed to be a worker-guy outside our window. We just closed the curtain if we were changing & figured if he wanted to look in and watch us pack or do whatever we were doing in the room that was fine. I mention this because "guy outside the window" would bother some people more than others.

Here's a photo that illustrates your point! This looks like it's from either 5022 or 5522.

I still think the SPRs are a great deal ~ just to eliminate claustrophobia, if nothing else. :sunny:

(By the way....I'd sure hate to have that job! Just a railing between you and the wide-open sea! :rotfl: )

I love this thread!!! Detroit dad you made me feel much better about 5524..thanks. We will know the family in the connecting room so no biggie.
Anyone else, have experience with 5524. We will be on the Wonder. :woohoo:
