I just can't decide between a secret veranda deck or a Navigators verandah - both deck 7 :confused3

We have had an ordinary verandah deck 6 a few times, and really fancied a change (plus its a bit cheaper of course)...but an secret verandah is tempting isn't it ?...and either way the view will be obstructed.

Please could I have your thoughts to help me decide.:confused3

Actually neither cabin has a true obstructed view. The navigator verandah have a large open porthole (it is not obstructed). It is just a different type of verandah. If you stand in front of the porthole your view is not obstructed. The rest of the verandah area is decorated in nautical touches and has a bench built in to the side of the verandah.

The Secret Verandah cabins (there are 4 of them) have a piece of the ship structure that angles down in the upper corner of the verandah....but it does not obstruct your view at all. Instead of a straight ceiling line on the verandah, one corner is angled. that is it. The secret verandah's have a full clear plexi railing so you can even see if you are sitting.

The SV cabins are 6134, 6634, 7120, 7620. I have stayed in two of the SV cabins and they are great.

There was a thread on this a while back - in fact, a poster on that thread mentioned that she actually politely declined an upgrade in order to keep her Navigator's Verandah. I say, go for it! Try something new! You will still get to smell the sea air :thumbsup2

The true Navigator balconies have the solid wall railings with a porthole on top - so they really are much more of an obstruction than the "secret verandah" rooms. You have to stand up to see out. The "secret" rooms still have the regular clear plexiglass railing below so they're not really obstructed. The angle that mmouse37 talked about is not that much of a deal. If one of the SV rooms is available I'd snag that in a heartbeat over a reg. Navigator room!!

I had a navigator's veranda on my first Disney cruise last July. I did not like the fact that you cannot see the water very well from inside the cabin or even when you are seated in the chair on the veranda. All you see is sky. You pretty much have to stand at the opening if you want to see the ocean. Next time I will probably get a regular veranda or save the money and just get an oceanview.

If i'm not mistaken, cat 7's are only for up to 3 ppl. - even the secret veranda rooms...

We absolutely loved our secret V room. We had 7120.

You'll have to wait until after we go on the Panama Canal cruise for me to answer as we have both types booked. We're in the Navigator and I gave the secret verandah to the couple going with us for their first cruise.

Do you have any pictures of the verandah for 7120 ? - I havre found plenty of the one on deck 6 (which is also available -but I would like to try deck 7 for a change).

We have stayed in 7120 twice and loved it. It is not much different than the one on Deck 6. I think the verandah may be a bit deeper on Deck 6, but you are one deck closer to the food and drink station on Deck 9 by going up the secret aft stairs.

Here's a view looking up from the outside to 7120:

Thank you for the photo - that has been really helpful.

Looking at that picture it actually looks as though the deck 7 verandah is less obstructed than the one on deck 6.....I imagined the reverse was true..so that is another plus.

Thanks again for sharing !:goodvibes

The obstruction on Deck 7 is a more severe angle than Deck 6, so you need to watch you head!

In disneyfaninaz's pic you can also see that just to the aft (right) are the regular Navigator "porthole" verandahs. They have the solid walls with the big portholes...

FWIW here's a pic of DH sitting outside on one of the solid wall cat 6's which are completely open above the railing...but between the pic above & mine you can sorta tell how much more enclosed the regular Cat 7 Navigators would be.

If given a choice I would most definitely choose the clear railing over the solid wall stuff.

We love the secret verandah's and have stayed in three of the four. We always request them when booking a cat. 7. I like to be able to see the ocean from inside the cabin, and the clear wall allows you to do just that. We also find them more private than cat. 6 as you can not see your neighbor on one side. No matter which cabin you choose your on a Disney cruise and you will have a wonderful time!

We've stayed in 7620 on the Magic and the Wonder. The angle is less severe on the Wonder than on the Magic. I believe the picture posted here is from the Magic.

I have to thank you all for your advice and wonderful pictures - I am getting a much clearer picture now of which to opt for .......

...I think its going to be the secret verandah on deck 7.....:goodvibes

Just need to send in my request to DU now.

During our cruise in June 2009 on the Wonder, we had stateroom 7620 which is one of the "secret" verandah rooms. The "obstruction" really is not an obstruction at all. It did not bother us and we could see everything! Here are some pictures I took before sail away....

Here is a picture while facing the solid wall that has the "obstructon". As you can see, you actually have a little more privacy on this verandah since one wall is solid rather than a partition.

Personally, we found this stateroom to be a GREAT bargain!! You pay the navigators verandah price due to the "obstruction" but get a plexiglass verandah instead.
