Crap! I didn't see that!!! And when talking about my own fear of surgery

6 weeks???? WOW....Do you have any type of short term disability insurance? As much as I am frustrated with work right now, I don't know If we'd make it without my salary that long.

When is the surgery, and what do they need to do?

Well I am glad that you got the numbers fixed.

So the cartilage tear was only part of it. I have to have some of the bone removed that is pushing on a nerve, so they want to take off part of the bone, reshape my toe, put in two screws and keep me off my feet for 6 weeks.

We have short term disability at my job that is fully paid by my employer, I will have to take a week of vacation and they will pay my salary 100% for the next 5 weeks. I can not complain too much about that part.

Owww...that sounds like a pretty delicate and involved procedure. Glad you don't have to worry about your salary.

They want me to pick out a date and I have a pretty full schedule right now.
I have a presentation week after next on my paper at a conference in Fl.
Then we have F&WF in October
Then I have a conference in November and first week in December.

No one but me can give these presentations because this is the paper I wrote and it is all of my funding for my job, so I must give them. I have more scheduled for next year also, but they start up again in February, so I think I am going to ask to schedule it for December after my last conference, then the 6 weeks would carry me thru the end of January.

But it all depends if the Dr will let me put it off that long?

Are you still in pain? I can't imagine trying to do WDW feeling like I do right now. If you are not in pain, then put it off, but feeling like I do now, I'd want to get it over with, rather than prolong the pain/recovery. But you are kinda stuck with all the work stuff, unless you can videoconference/skype some of it.

I guess I got lost for a couple of days. Glad to see some more posts, but sorry about the pain and surgery.

I quoted the above because it reminded me of the last Costco trip I did with my mom. She insisted she could drive an electric cart, so I got one for her (she's usually in a manual wheelchair). Her eyesight is extremely limited, and she was crashing into displays and pinning people to the aisles. I said it was like shopping with Mr. Magoo. She said if people didn't like how she drove, they should get out of the way. True story!

We heard the very same comment at Disney the last trip, after a lady ran into a stroller.

I think you are onto somemthing with the using a small child as a driver..I will conveniently have 2 of those with me. (one isn't so small anymore, but he would love to drive me around.)
