Second week of December-pools & crowds

Just wondering what the crowds are like during the second week of December. I'm assuming pretty light, like a 4 or so. Is this a correct assumption. Any rides that you can just walk on during the day? Also, is it crazy to think we might be able to use the pools. We're pretty thick skinned Northerners.

We usually go the first or second week of December and we've experienced weather from the 70's down to the 30's. And those temps were in the day! Usually we go to the pool in the afternoons when it's the warmest, and it was normally around 70, but our last trip the kids only went to the pool once on our first day when it was in the 60's. After that the temps dropped from 50's on our second day on down to the high 30's on our last day. I can say the lines were very short on the colder days, and most mornings we walked right on everything except Toy Story at HS. Our last day we went on Space Mountain 5x in a row without a wait, even stopping to play the video games along the queue! Trying September this year so we can go to MNSSHP-have always done MVMCP so want to see what Halloween party is like!

The parks won't be that crowded. We are from the north, so using the pool in December is a must for me. It isn't that bad, the worst thing that could happen is you have to run back to your room a little chilly! The pools are heated, so you can easily get into them.

Crowds usually very manageable. As others posted, weather is hit or miss, somedays are pool days, some are not. The temps can be across the board!

I am expecting with the opening of BOG, MK will be definitely a little more crowded, but overall we completing what you want to do early in the day is best. We have see E ticket rides upwards to 120 minute waits and then other days walk on over and over again. It really isn't a true science at this time of year. For the most part, picking the best parks on their best days, you will have no issues whatsoever doing what you need/want to do.

I don't know how big an impact BOG/FLE will make, but I would expect there are diehard WDW fans like ourselves making the trip to enjoy the new FLE.

We're from the north also but for the couple of times we've tried the first few weeks in December..... We've given up.... Just too iffy weather to plan a vacation to WDW ....

We like to use the pool every afternoon and alittle some evenings but for a couple of trips it was down right cold and as for me, pools not heated high enough for me to venture in plus that dash from the pool to room shivering is not how I want to spend my vacation...

We've done Disney over 40 times and enjoy the heat, I can shiver at home (Ohio) so want warm to hot in Florida.... As for crowds, I think the secret has been out too long for to say crowds are slack.... Still better than mid summer and around holidays but weekend are packed....

Our take on December and January, we're done....can't justify going when temps can be in the 30-60 degree range when I'm trying to escape the cold of Ohio.... Traveling 1100 miles and spending alot of money for the same weather where I live.... We'll go back to our Sept/Oct period and still have the best of both worlds!!

We have been to DW a few times in Dec. We're from New England and don't mind starting the day in jeans and a sweatshirt with the hope we can peel off the sweatshirt by noon. In general that's been the case. But 2 years ago we decided that a trip to Disney would be our Xmas. We decorated our 2-br at SSR and had a nice time. We even scheduled a golf date. Unfortunately we ended up having to cancel our 8:00 tee time due to the fact the temp was 38 degrees! And it was like that for most of the week we were there. But despite that setback we'll be down there again this year from the 10th-16th. What the heck. It's Disney!

Everyone has addressed the weather issue, I'll address the crowd issue. Be prepared for the crowds at Magic Kingdom. With the Grand Opening of the new Fantasyland on December 6th, there will likely be more people there.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll prepare myself for MK crowds and be sure to bring lots of layers.

We're looking at late January - would we be crazy to spring for water park option, based on what folks are saying here about pool time in winter? Probably would go one or two days at most to water park.

Should be pretty low crowds. We have went 3years in a row the third week or so(normally 11-17th). Only last year on day at MK did it get crazy. It was a Thursday too!

If you avoid the magic hour days at those parks having it should be fine. We also find MK to not be crowded on a day when they have the Christmas party since they close at 7 pm.
