Hello Everyone: I'm very excited about this auction. Artist and designer Paul Pape has agreed to auction off 10 of his "Up" engagement ring boxes and donate 40% of the proceeds to the Power of 10 fundraiser.

You can find all the details below.

Powerof10: Up Engagement Ring Box Auction

Thanks go out to DisneyDadCanada for initially reaching out to Paul Pape, and having him agree to participate in the fundraiser.

5 out of the 10 gift boxes don't have any bids. Please check out the auction!

I was thinking the ring boxes would be auctioned off one a week, not all at once.

I thought the "Power of Ten" was going to be part of all the Disney online (and other) communities. Do they know about this auction? Are they involved and onboard?

What in the world is this supposed to mean?

Yes, Lynn the auction is legit.

Oh, no! What did you think I meant?! Of course the auction is legit!!!

I am not in charge, obviously. But I would have stretched out the auctions (one ring box per week) and made sure more people knew about them.

On the cruise, Pete said that "Power of Ten" was not a DIS Unplugged / Dreams Unlimited / WDW Info only thing. That it would be a Disney community fund raiser.

I listen to a half dozen Disney podcasts. I have not heard any other mention of "Power of Ten".

I remember Pete saying he wanted to get the whole Disney community involved in the Power of 10, I don't understand what that has to do with these auctions though or why they would need to be "on board" with them.

The Dis has no control of what is and isnt included in other podcasts.

You have made a great effort to introduce and promote other Disney podcasts to the folks that post on these boards.

As their ambassador, I would think that you would be all over their discussion boards introducing the Power of 10 fund raising effort to their audiences, just as you praise their podcasts here.

Have you contacted the half dozen other Disney podcasts and asked them why they are not mentioning the GKTW promotions?

As this seems to be a concern.....it seems your time would be better spent asking them why they are not mentioning this great fund raising effort then to ask the question here...where the effort is being readily promoted.

Hi There, the artist decided how and when the ring boxes would be auctioned off. He's in control of this one, and we are very thankful for his generous donation. Believe me we will have a lot more auctions in the future. We auctioned off Charlie Ridgway's book last week, and I'm hoping we'll have different items every 2 weeks or so. This one is a little different because the artist is in charge, not the DIS.

As Kevin mentioned, we can't control (or expect to) what other people talk about on their podcasts. We (myself in particular) have been making a big effort to let other segments of the Disney fan community know about our fundraising efforts for GKTW. As it's a grassroots effort, I'm simply reaching out to my friends that I've met over the years. Some have been very interested in helping out. Others have said it's a great cause, but they are already very involved in their own fundraising efforts for their own causes. I certainly can't fault them for that.

I did make an appearance on the "Inner Mouse" podcast to talk about the fundraising effort, and they have been very supportive of us. You can find that podcast here.

There have been a number of blogs written up by various members of the Disney fan community promoting the Power of 10. I try to update the Power of 10 site whenever I find them, and you can find those articles here.

As to whether the Disney fan community knows about this specific auction. I've been trying to spread the word as best I can on Twitter, facebook, and other places. We'd love any help we can get in letting people know about the auction.

So I guess I'd say to close, yes, we need all the help we can get in the getting the word out. We'd love to have you help support the cause in any way that you can, and also to help get the word out. Thanks so much for your interest and passion.

I saw the original article on Boing Boing about the jewelry boxes, and emailed the artist on my own accord. While Boing Boing has nothing to do with Disney directly, Cory Doctorow, one of the contributors, is a huge Disney fan.

Also, I wouldn't limit ourselves to Disney related podcasts, web sites or auctions. Everyone, whether a Disney fan or not, can hopefully understand the benefits of this charity. While many people may have their own charities that they donate to (as do I), it never hurts to ask or promote your cause, wherever you are on the web.

Plus, if Pete's word alone had that much influence, "the cleaning lady" would have been gone a long time ago. :)

Sorry, Kevin. I guess I misunderstood Pete. And I am misunderstood.

I listen to other podcasts.
I am not an ambassador.
I am most active on the DIS discussion board.
I am not an ambassador or promoter of "Power of Ten".
Some of the podcasts already support GKTW or Make a Wish or other causes.

A number of the podcasts I listen to refer to and seem to be friendly with other podcasters. I thought that somehow this project was going to do something to bring the DIS and many other podcasts together.

I was just trying to explain that we have no control over what other podcasters say, think or broadcast.

As has been explained, Paul (Disney Dad in Canada) approached the designer and creator of these boxes and asked if he would donate one to The Power of Ten campaign. He graciously agreed. How he auctions of his work is his business.

Whether of not other Disney podcasts are "involved and onboard" in the artist's auctions isnt something we have any control over.

The Power of 10 is something started by Pete and the Dis. It's open to everyone that wants to participate...not just Dis members. You will notice that the Dis is not part of the name. This is a fund raiser to raise money for Give Kids The World. Donations are accepted from everywhere.

If you feel that the other podcasts you listen to would like to participate, feel free to approach them. Post on their discussion boards that there is a fund raiser for GKTW. Show them how to donate.

I'm sorry, and let me apologize ahead of time if I come across as a jerk here, it's not my intent. However, I don't understand your comment. If you are not an ambassador or promoter of "Power of 10", then why exactly do you care how this auction is run? That has left me confused.

Dave, I don't think it's possible for you to come across as a jerk. :)
And for the record, I was wondering the same thing.

Sorry folks. My confusion hijacked the original purpose of this thread and I apologize for that.

I think Paul Pape's ring box is really cool and it is great that he is supporting the cause.

Good cheer and pixie dust all around!
