Sebastian's STRONG and SVELTE Under the Sea September W.I.S.H. Weight Loss Challenge - All Welcome!

Any WW meetings members here? It was a big week for WW and a big shift in the program emphasis. I think it is a good change because they are helping members to work through the behavioral changes that we really need to make that healthy lifestyle stick.

Not a meetings member but a very satisfied online member. Can you briefly summarize the changes to the program so we can benefit? It would be very helpful! :)

QOTD - September 11
It's our second Friday check-in!! How is everyone doing with their goals and plans? Anything you are thinking of changing? Or are you just full steam ahead?

I don't weigh in until Sunday so I'll make sure to post my weight loss that morning. I'm hoping for a great number on Sunday and have been doing a few extra thousand steps per night in hopes of having it show up. Can I will a scale to give me the magical number I want to see? Wouldn't it be great if it was just that easy? :) Our plans this week got changed slightly - our weekly Disneyland trip was cancelled due to weather. It's been very humid and hot here in Southern California, almost to the point where the air feels thick and it's hard to breathe. I know my husband would have been like Grumpy if we went; so I traded in Disneyland for Ikea last night - which was also fun because I treated myself to Swedish Meatballs.

Today also begins Birthday Week! :D Heading to Old Navy to find a new pair of jeans at lunch and then heading to a day spa tomorrow for a body scrub, facial, and massage. Cannot wait to sit in the sauna and relaxing room - there's something magical about cucumber water at a spa that tastes great and makes you feel better about yourself. (Doing all of my homework and studying tonight after work so that I can play and relax this weekend - moving the last items from our old place to our new place and dropping off the keys to the office. So long old apartment!)

DH and DPup got attacked by bees this morning. . Everyone is going to be OK but we need to get something to help my poor itchy dog.
Oh no -- that's not a good way to spend a Friday. I hope they're both okay and wishing them both a speedy recovery!

I reserve the right to change my weigh in from today if a better number pops up tomorrow or Sunday LOL!
Hey, we won't judge if you weighed in again on Sunday and hit your magic number. ;) Shhh... I won't tell.

Happy Friday to all of you!

I am thrilled that I can report back with a loss for my first weigh in!! And I have even lost more than expected. I suspect that my start weight might have been one of those days with those fun surprise bonus pounds that I regularly have (that's why I am a daily scale visitor, I fluctuate a lot). So maybe it is just fluctuation, but since it has been down yesterday as well, I think it is a real weight and I just take it as a loss. So, I lost 1.54 pounds out of my goal of 4. Puts me at 38.5% Not bad!!

I am also happy that I was able to finally stay within my calorie goal for three days now. I am still struggling with getting used to eating less and am eating a lot of apples, carrots, peaches etc. I know that my high protein strategy is working however, as from the moment I started focusing on the protein the hunger became far more manageable!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! I am going to try to do some meal planning for the coming days now!

QOTD - September 10

Food pushers!!! I seem to have them everywhere.... Do you? What are your strategies for dealing with them and their delicious or not-so delicious offerings?
i have food pushers all around me and it makes things so hard. I understand that eating is a form of socialization and people like to have treats at special times (or not so special times)but what they don't understand is that when I am focused and doing well I am still petrified that a bite of a cupcake or a small ice cream cone will mentally make me feel like I have blown my calories (often times not really true) and I will then try to convince myself to eat everything I had been craving in hopes that I would get the craving out of my system and then start over the next day. I know this is crazy and I know the thought of " eat everything today and start again tomorrow" doesn't work...so back to the food pushers , the simple truth is they are offering more than a cupcake , they are often sabotaging a house of cards. I try as best I can to say No Thanks and walk away but as most of you know this is easier said than done. I have gotten stronger but still its a difficult situation.

Just checking in fast from the vet's office but will be back to chat later. Lots of drama here today. DH and DPup got attacked by bees this morning. . Everyone is going to be OK but we need to get something to help my poor itchy dog.

QOTD - September 11

It's our second Friday check-in!! How is everyone doing with their goals and plans? Anything you are thinking of changing? Or are you just full steam ahead?

Finally, a quick nod of the head to the day. This isn't the place for my memories but blessings to all.

So, I have a good check-in today. When I stepped on the scale after my workout this morning I was at 285.6, which means I was down 4.4 lbs this week and 6.6 lbs overall, putting me at 66% of goal.

There are a few food pushers in my family, including my mother and my MIL. They both know that my husband and I are watching our weight, but both act sad when we refuse dessert or sides with dinner. I just keep it short and sweet: as soon as the dessert comes out, I just say "No, thank you," then help myself to tea or a glass of water to drink while others are enjoying dessert.
Don't get me wrong, my husband and I still enjoy desserts from time to time, but we plan for it ahead of time. This weekend for example, we are making homemade cookie ice-cream sandwiches. I already figured out the nutrition info in Myfitnesspal, and we will make sure to save calories for it. Having a treat to look forward to at the end of the week is nice, and I won't feel guilty for eating it because I've planned for it and it's within my calorie goal!
That is so great you can plan a sweet into your meal plan. I cant do that at this point, the sugar is like a drug for me.

WOW - Good for you !!!!! That in itself is the greatest motivator of all !!!

Old Navy jeans shopping was a success!! I tried on and fit into all of the size "8 short" versions of their jeans (except for the skinny jeans - my legs are too big and I'll never be in them - even at goal weight). So I'm obviously down a pant size (YEAH!) and I ended up liking the Original style best. The store didn't have a second pair but I may order one online or hold off, as I don't want to buy too many pairs of jeans and then be down another size in a month or two.

I still have 23.5 pounds to go for goal, but it feels great to now toss my size 10s and never look back.

:jumping1:

I haven't weighed myself since last Sunday (I see I'm not the only Sunday weigh-er) and will keep you all posted if I have a loss in 2 days.... fingers crossed... Have a great night everyone!

Yay for going down a size! Boo to skinny jeans! I'll never be able to pull them off either with these legs!

Any WW meetings members here? It was a big week for WW and a big shift in the program emphasis. I think it is a good change because they are helping members to work through the behavioral changes that we really need to make that healthy lifestyle stick.

Down .8 this week which brings my total to 3.2/5 or 64%

Woohoo on knocking out those September goals!!

I too am curious about the WW changes. Still toying with the idea of returning and an emphasis on behavioral changes might really push me to a meeting.

Happy Friday Everyone! I don't weigh in until Monday...but I'll try and adjust next week so I can report with the rest of you. It's raining today, very dreary. I have a gym workout today, which I don't think about until I get there, that way I stay in the moment and not anticipate the feelings of not wanting to go. The good thing about today is that tonight I go to my daughters and we are planning our "attack" for our upcoming FP+. We are arriving a day apart so my FP+ times will be before hers. And....she and her family do some different rides than me and my sweetheart. We will also talk about out last meal we have to plan. Our reservations are mainly done but she wants to do a lunch on our last day so we will discuss and plan that. Anytime we talk about our Disney vacation....it lifts my spirits. Super excited to have a Disney planning session! I do have to bring a meal for myself....she is having Friday night pizza and I am not doing pizza, so I do have to plan something for myself. I could make one of my flatbread pizza's that way we are all eating pizza! Anyway....everyone have a fantastic weekend. Stay strong!

Monday WI is just fine for reporting! I'll summarize results sometime Sunday but will just continue to update as numbers come in. Enjoy your planning!!

Thank you! No Onederland this week, unfortunately. I was afraid of this. In October 2013, the place where I was working did a Biggest Loser competition, and I managed to go from 209 to 201, but could never fall below that. It's like there's this invisible fence separating me from 201 and 199, and now I'm back at it. I can not for the life of me figure out how to get on the other side of that number. Ugh.

You will get there. You've got a good plan and Onederland is going to show up one of these mornings!

Lol, unfortunately I am the food pusher in my house. Work is not an issue, but at home, it's much more difficult, especially with as crazy as things are right now. If I mention that I want to just go pick up something, DH2B does not even think about arguing, which gets kind of frustrating. I ask him all the time to please say no if I say I want to eat something we shouldn't be eating because we are out of time to goof off and absolutely have to stick to our diet, and he says he will, and then nothing. Which is why we've eaten junk for dinner every night this week. I think there's been 2 nights of Chick-fil-a, a night of Mexican, last night was Chili's... I feel so gross currently. I'm also frustrated with myself because I totally wrecked the awesome weight loss I had last week. I'm still down, but I definitely brought the losing to a screeching halt, and I was doing really well. Oh well, 3 weeks left in the month, so I can't give up yet.

Lots of time to turn it around! I so wish it was easier to get grab and go healthy food....

Week 2 Weigh In - As of this morning, I was at 202.5, so an overall loss of 3lbs, putting me at 46% of my goal if my math is right? Someone feel free to check that. I'm not sure if my 9/4 weigh in or my 9/6 weigh in was the one put on the week 1 results list, but either way I think this will show a gain for week 2, which is unfortunately true, even if it's only 1lb between Monday and today. I'm definitely discouraged, but I know there's time to fix it. I have to figure out how to get on the other side of the 200-fence. Of course, not having weeks like this food-wise would be a FANTASTIC place to start.

46% is still really great progress. Perhaps we need to have a no eating out challenge (says the person who technically stayed within her calories for the day but consumed an entire basket of chips and is going to pay for it on the scale tomorrow).

Wedding shower #3 tomorrow with all the women on my mom's side of the family. Lots and lots of aunts, great-aunts, cousins, and Southern cousins... All of whom are family that we typically only see at family reunions every few years, now that everyone has gotten older and the ones who were closer to my age have all started families and moved around... When I was younger we'd see them all every year at Christmas, but that was 20 years ago or so)... Also lots of food and lots of anxiety, haha. It will definitely be nice to see everyone, it's just also going to be an afternoon of "I haven't seen you since you were this tall, tell me about the wedding, tell me about DH2B, tell me about your job" etc. etc. etc. I don't like having lots of attention on me so I'm feeling pretty anxious about it.

Ah family! It sounds like it is going to be a really great shower but yes, it is hard to be the center of it all while recounting your life story every three minutes.

I wasn't delighted with this morning's weigh-in, so I'm holding out for another look-see tomorrow before I report in.

Off to do some cooking........ with my crazy schedule this week I wasn't able to do all of the cooking I had planned, so I've got spaghetti squash AND eggplant that need to be cooked TODAY! Plus I've got a friend doing the 21 Day Fix diet (not my idea, but I want to be supportive) so I told her I'd print some recipes for her.

TTYL.......................P

Best of the weekend check-in seems fair to me!

I've had something similar (for me it's 135 - I can't get below 136, no matter how hard I try). All I can say is keep trying and it'll happen eventually!

---

Morning all! The good news here is that I weighed in two lbs lighter than last week, which not only erases last week's gain, but puts me down 1 lb for the month ... aka 33% of goal.
The bad news is that my knee is still bugging me ... icing yesterday just made it worse, Advil helps occasionally but not always, and I'm really at a loss for what to do. If it gets any worse I'll go to the doctor to get it checked out, but I really just don't have time! Until I figure this out, I'm a little limited in my exercise, so I'll have to be extra careful with my eating ... which really is never a bad thing.

Woohoo!

I reserve the right to change my weigh in from today if a better number pops up tomorrow or Sunday LOL! Hope your DH and DPup are better ASAP! Poor puppy, he must be miserable. :-(

Thank you for a very appropriately worded and placed mention of the day. Allow me to second that

Thanks for the well wishes! DH has 5 big welts on his legs but swears they don't hurt or itch that much. Poor Lexi has at least two stings on her muzzle and one on her leg and her poor little face is all swollen up. She is on steroids for a few days and is all drugged up on Benadryl. I spent the day on conference calls with a sleepy, whiny dog on my lap. It makes me much more sympathetic to my coworkers who seem to have a constant parade of sick little kids.

Today also begins Birthday Week! :D

Woohoo!

Oh no -- that's not a good way to spend a Friday. I hope they're both okay and wishing them both a speedy recovery!

Hey, we won't judge if you weighed in again on Sunday and hit your magic number. ;) Shhh... I won't tell.

One thing I am realizing from all of this is that it maybe isn't so nice to bring a plate of cookies to the office. I know that I certainly am going to think twice before dumping my leftover Halloween candy at the reception desk

So, I have a good check-in today. When I stepped on the scale after my workout this morning I was at 285.6, which means I was down 4.4 lbs this week and 6.6 lbs overall, putting me at 66% of goal.

Woohoo! That's quite an early birthday present!

Sooo happy that it's Friday :-) My week actually went well, I'm sticking to my exercise plans (aiming for 3 days a week but this week I did 4!) I haven't weighed myself since last Sunday (I see I'm not the only Sunday weigh-er) and will keep you all posted if I have a loss in 2 days.... fingers crossed... Have a great night everyone!

I've got mine crossed for you too!

You can do this! Sometimes setting your goal beyond the imaginary brick wall helps -- say aim for 195 then you would just pass right over 199.9 on your way to the next goal. Lots of fun stuff going on for your wedding. :bride:

Second.... SO GLAD to hear you say all that about the new WW emphasis. I KNOW it is for the best going forward, but my members only seemed to be able to focus on the fact that they had to change from the old green/white weight tracker to the new orange My Success Story tracker and it was a (drumroll for that nasty word)...........CHANGE! Gotta find a way next week to be sure that they are looking at this change in a positive light!

It's a lot more than just changing the tracker. ::yes:: It goes along with the meeting topics we've been doing all summer about breaking the chain, slipping not sliding, and figuring out other ways that our healthy lifestyle helps us every day besides just that number on the scale, which does not reliably reflect our hard work. It's less an emphasis about how to track, what to eat, and a more holistic approach because we all know there is more to it than just numbers. :hippie: To me it is a lot like personal coaching where we are working through action plans and creating lasting healthy habits.

Just curious...does this new style affect online users? I keep getting notifications about why we track and such and have been disregarding them. Probably a similar campaign just without the physical weight log.

Not a meetings member but a very satisfied online member. Can you briefly summarize the changes to the program so we can benefit? It would be very helpful! :)

Everyone got a new tracker that isn't like the old green trackers where you get your sticker and stick it in your car until next meeting. It is a 16 week tracker, which coincidentally is the number of weeks until the New Year. In the front of the tracker it says this:

Think of this booklet as a snapshot of yuor success -- however you define it. This is your place to record (and reflect on) your goals, whether they're about weight loss or things that can't be measured by the scale -- whatever makes you feel healthy and happy. Bring this journal to your meeting each week. Your meeting room team will guide you if you need help filling it out and they'll check with you monthly on how it's going. Remember the scale is only one measure of success. This is a journey, not a race, and the ultimate reward is a healthier you.

Then there is a whole section on your why and your goal (interim or final) and talking about your me time. Taking care of yourself is essential to your success.

Then there are four sections of 4 weeks each where you set a monthly goal, weight and otherwise. You say rate how you feel before you stand on the scale and say how you will prioritize your me time this week. And only then do you get the regular sticker. At the end of four weeks it is award week and reflecting on how you did for the past 4 weeks. There are also sections on taking stock of the 16 weeks and reflecting how it went. Looking forward and looking back. Collecting your bravo stickers and saying what they are for instead of slapping them in the book. A measurements section and looking ahead for the next 16 weeks.

For you ladies who are online members you can always look at the topic of the week online -- it's in "My Plan." I know a lot of online folks come into our center and weigh in and pick up weekly copies even if they don't stay for meetings. You could do that and get one of the cool new trackers because it would definitely add to the online system, especially if you are feeling stuck or not progressing as quickly as you would like.

I'm sure @pjlla can chime in more about these changes because I am only a member. But I can tell you it is a lot more exciting and fun instead of saying "oh yeah, this must be power foods week."

@DisPup75 hope everyone is recovered from the bee encounter. :flower3:

Happy weigh-in this morning! I was down 2 pounds for a 55% to goal.

So far my plan has been to eat nearly all my points, including WP and AP. and it seems to be working pretty well. Most importantly, it keeps me from feeling like I'm starving myself. I'm sure that'll have to change the more that I lose but I'm sticking with it for now. Hope everyone has a great weekend

Weight loss mantras!! Everyone has at least a few, right? Those fun little sayings that provide motivation on rough days and irritate you with their smugness on other days.... Any pithy words of wisdom keep you going? Any that make you cringe whenever they get rolled out?

Thank you so much for this summary of the WW changes. It sounds really great!! I'm going to do some serious schedule examining and see what I can do to fit in a weekly meeting.

Thanks for the bee well wishes, too! The pup is far more herself this morning and DH seems just fine!! I think they will being avoiding that particular trail for a while, though.

My goal is 195... At least by the wedding. My overall goal is much lower, and has been for a while, so unfortunately that's not the catalyst. :(

I'll be absolutely honest and tell you that I would have expected that you got the new "spiel" when you logged on this week (roll out started last Saturday). I'm surprised you didn't. Basically WW is starting to lean toward a more holistic approach.... small goals along the way was what we talked about this week. Log on this weekend and see if there is anything about it. Maybe the online roll-out was scheduled for later???

Just checking in fast from the vet's office but will be back to chat later. Lots of drama here today. DH and DPup got attacked by bees this morning. . Everyone is going to be OK but we need to get something to help my poor itchy dog.

YIKES! Prayers that they recover quickly!

QOTD - September 11

It's our second Friday check-in!! How is everyone doing with their goals and plans? Anything you are thinking of changing? Or are you just full steam ahead?

Finally, a quick nod of the head to the day. This isn't the place for my memories but blessings to all.

Feeling like I am doing okay..... but the things that needed to change in August.... and July.... and June.... still need to change. I need to eat MORE and exercise MORE! My daily PP target is 26 and I only hit is once this week ( on Monday, the day I overdid it a bit with the tortilla chips). I had a good loss two weeks ago and a small loss this week (but I'll take anything as long as it is in the right direction!). Officially down .4 this week.

Not a meetings member but a very satisfied online member. Can you briefly summarize the changes to the program so we can benefit? It would be very helpful! :)

Again.... surprised you didn't get any info when you logged on this week. Lisa gives you a great member POV here, so I won't babble!

Well.... I understand not going because of the weather..... and Ikea is fun.... but there is NO WAY I'd trade a trip to DL for Ikea! That being said, I suppose if you get to go weekly it is different!

Have a great time with your "ME TIME"!!

WOOHOO!! I also find that vacation gains tend to fall away quickly after I return, as long as I get right back OP.

Good job finding a HEALTHY strategy!!

:jumping1:

Great attitude!!! And congrats on the smaller size!

:flower3:

Actually Lisa, you did an amazing job.... much better than I would have! And it is nice to get a MEMBER POV rather than mine! Thank you!!

Excellent job! And glad to see that you are losing using all your PPV! It can be done!!

QOTW - September 12/13

Weight loss mantras!! Everyone has at least a few, right? Those fun little sayings that provide motivation on rough days and irritate you with their smugness on other days.... Any pithy words of wisdom keep you going? Any that make you cringe whenever they get rolled out?

I am the "Queen of Quotes"!! Love them, use them, decorate my house with them! I keep them in my planner, in my food tracker.... why is it that someone else's words have so much more power than my own??

My favorite in regards to this weight loss journey......

ask yourself.jpg

and this is my SECOND favorite.... I think....

if I quit now.jpg

It reminds me that even if I slip up a little, back pedal a little.... I am still FAR BETTER OFF than I was before!!

Off to be productive here! TTYL...........................P

I love this quote, it reminds me that everything is a choice. after a disappointing weigh in last week of no weight loss I managed one pound lost this week but wasn't overly thrilled with that( 20% of my goal)...my steps are higher than ever, I have been doing low impact weight training and my calories are in check!!! Trying not to get discouraged as I have lost 40 pounds already and I know there comes a time when your body starts doing some internal adjusting but still its hard...but in looking at the above quote, being fat is hard too!!! I will choose the hard of living healthy and hope next week a better weight loss kicks in. I am going to concentrate on protein and veggies, not too much fruit and no carbs ...ugh. My goal was to be in the 40's by my September 30 trip to WDW and now its looking iffy .
