If I have a City Pass ticket, would I be able to visit Seaworld a 2nd day for free?

Thanks.

I think you'd have to call them about that. As far as I know, you have to buy the tickets (if they are offering it) that include a second day free, so if I had a citypass I wouldn't figure I could get in.

If having those 2 days is important to you, and if you find out that you can't upgrade the citypass SW ticket to the 2 days ticket, you might really check out if the citypass is worth it to you.

Thanks for getting back to me. With the So. Cali pass you are allowed only a one day admission with the option of upgrading. I called them today.

Since you are such a DL/California expert, can you recommend any beach in the San Diego? Also, that coast highway that everyone tells me I have to do, is that nearby?

Thanks.

We did Sea World last Friday and are still in San Diego right now. We visited Mission Beach for a couple days last week and that beach was great. La Jolla Shores is also a good beach (used to live in SD). Del Mar has a good beach too. :goodvibes This week we are at the beach in Oceanside north of SD.

I love San Diego. Had a private security job there a few years back(6mos contract) and it is probably one of the best places I have ever been. Hope your trip has been great.

Thanks HydroGuy. How has the weather been?
The weather has actually been a little on the warm side for the beach which means just about perfect. :goodvibes Air temps in the mid to high 70's maybe topping at 80 earlier this week. Cloudy marine layer almost every morning (typical) which burns off by 10-11AM.

Having lived in SoCal for so many years and vacationed with our kids, we are all accustomed to the cold water here. So it has been nice that the ocean water has been so warm relatively speaking. Usually you see water temps of 66 degrees up to 70 max. Water temps have been low 70's all week and that five degree difference has felt huge. You do not feel that cold shock you normally feel.

Have a great trip!

HydroGuy,
We'll be in San Diego next week. Thanks for the beach recommendations.

Can you tell me anything about Ocean Beach?

Ocean Beach (known as "O-B" to locals - that is what my DW and I call it - she used to live in "O-B" when she was in college) is just south of Mission Beach and Sea World. Personally I never liked the beach at OB very much. It just feels more run down around there. I am not saying it is a bad place. We would go there ourselves with our kids. But if I had a choice I would go to the beach further north in Mission Beach or Pacific Beach ("P-B", and just north of Mission Beach) or even La Jolla north of PB. IMO as you go further north from OB the beaches feel more upscale and family friendly. :)

Thank you so much HydroGuy. We will do the other beaches instead.

We are making our first summer trip to Southern California and I just got done reading all your rules and tips. All of your knowledge ha been so helpful in the planning process. Thanks for sharing it all on here.

Slightly OT :goodvibes

How are the San Diego beaches in April? Is the ocean too cold in April?

(According to wunderground.com, in early-April "there is a 97% chance of a Warm Day (temperature over 60°F)," so it sounds like it might be warm enough.)

TIA :earsboy:

Cool! :thumbsup2

FWIW, I just posted some of my experiences at SWSD last week that you may find helpful over on the SoCal Theme Parks forum.

IMO it is a no brainer that the water is too cold in April. It barely gets tolerable around Memorial Day and then sometimes is still not tolerable. If you go to wade in the water in April or play in the sand that will work. But actually immersing yourself for swimming or boogie boarding is something I would not even attempt without a wetsuit. :)
