I can't speak to the photo tour, but...
We did the VIP tour in late September 2009 and it was the best "splurge" ever for our vacation--worth every penny!! Our tourguide was amazing--knowledgeable about all of the animals, answered all my son's questions about working there as well, got us everything we needed (bottled water in 90+ degree heat, ponchos when it rained, could find a bathroom anywhere!). We saw all the shows--walking into reserved dead center seats just minutes before each show. Fed all the animals (dolphins, rays, sea lions)--food alone for the animals would've been about $24 a person. Lunch with Shamu was great food, poolside and closer than it seems possible! The training show during the Shamu lunch was 10X better than the Shamu Believe show! The whales were right there just a few feet from you! The buffet was yummy--the red velvet cake was the best! Front of the line for each of the rides...those that didn't ride were given some great options--to see the penguins and other aquarium/exhibits.---The rides were great but really only a small part of the tour, with the back entrance/front of line privilege, they took next to no time. Those that rode just got a little less time at the near-by exhibit.
No planning or family arguing what to do when, reserved seats everywhere, everything taken care of---a perfect day!
We did get photos taken by Sea World Photographers with the dolphins (I bought several) and our tour guide was happy to use our personal cameras to snap shots with the dolphins and throughout the tour as well.
I'd definitely do it again.
