the last time we were at Seaworld was 25 years ago,,at that time there was an attraction that had a mermaid diving for oysters,, you paid 10 bucks or so,, she would dive to the bottom and you would point to an oyster and she would bring it up,, you then had it opened and there would be a pearl in it which they would grade and price,, my wife got two nice pearls this way and had them made into earrings,, my question to the board is ,, does this attraction still exists?

they're not dressed as mermaids anymore, though. :) it's located in the Waterfront area of the park.

And it just started again after they added the waterfront. Prior to that for years it was just a booth over by the Smokey Creek restaurant that you could buy pearls at. I think the original pearl diving ended when they replaced the Japaneese Village part of the park. Anyone remember that area?

Or did you know there used to be only the one place to eat in the park---the huge cafeteria place that served Disney type meals of burgers and fries instead of the good stuff you can eat in the park today? Or when the trainers did not get in the water with the whales?
I still remember the George Washington crossing the Delaware skit from 1976. LOL They put a boat on the original Shamu who was huge and went across the tank. LOL Shamu wasn't cooperating when we were there and tipped the boat off his back. The trainer was out of the water in record time. LOL
Also does anyone remember the Super Heroes ski show??? That was one of the best shows in the park back in the 80s. With all the SuperHero movies out now, they should bring that show back! Kids would love it. Fusion is just sort of lame. Pretty at times but lame. My 28 year old son was just a baby then; but still remembers the characters. LOL He used to practice running like Superman did there, so he could join the crew when he grew up. They actually did ski "tricks" then. Anybody have their kids baby pictures containing mostly them being held by the Sea World SuperHeroes during the meet and greet after the shows? We have such good memories from Sea World. We bought our annual passes at Sears for years and years.

Just went to SeaWorld this past Thursday-yup still there but the people who dive were not dressed up as mermaids/mermen. I think the price was closer to $15. I think it would have been better and more entertaining if they still did dress up as mermaids/mermen! I wonder why they don't anymore??? :confused3

I, too remember when they were Japanese style divers. ;) I also remember visiting Sea World when this attraction no longer existed - wasn't the same buying your oyster from a stand! :sad2:

Glad to hear that there are divers again - hopefully DD will get to pick her own oyster and hope for a "special" pearl soon! :goodvibes
