All of these wedding debates/customs on the DIS seem to be either the north east or the deep south.

A very good friend of ours is getting married this month. We have vacationed with him almost every year for the last 8 years. We only see him once a year. We have met the bride twice. We are unable to attend the wedding.

So what do we give?? Money or a gift? What is the custom out in the north west?

TIA,
DF

Registry #1
Cash #2
Gift Card #3
Something personal #4

If they have a registry that is always the fall back gift for me with cash coming in a close 2nd.

Monogrammed galoshes

That is a wonderful idea! I think from now on I will make monogrammed galoshes my go to gift for all special occasions. Do they make them small enough for baptismal gifts?

Pffft. Galoshes. Seattle scoffs at galoshes. And umbrellas. We're probably the city with the most rain, and the fewest umbrellas. If I carried an umbrella every day that they called for rain, I might as well just get one permanently welded to my arm. :lmao: We just deal with our rain and get wet like men. ...and women.

In answer to the actual question, I agree with PP. Registry or cash. I wouldn't worry too much... we're not really sticklers for etiquette here, like in other parts of the country.

Thanks for the "unique" gift ideas....:lmao:

Okay, so I need to find out where they are registered at! I've been on my DHs butt about what to give them for the last month! lol. He said a gift, and I kept saying cash. Who would have thought he was right???

Thanks you guys! I knew I could count on the DIS!

Seattlelite here. I agree-registry is #1 and cash is #2. Macys is very popular for registries as are Crate and Barrel and Amazon so I'd check those first.

I never really thought about it, but yeah, cash isn't really the go-to gift here. The only people we got cash from were my MIL (who is Asian, and she says Asians like to give cash) and my good friend from New Jersey. :)

Agree with the popular registry sites. You might also check theknot.com and weddingchannel.com to see if they put their registries up there. Oh, and Target is getting better at registry stuff so you might check there, too.

I agree that out here in the wild Northwest, we tend to do gifts from the registry more often than cash (and I'd never heard the term "cover your plate" until I came to this board....).

In addition to seeing if they are registered at Macy's and Target, you might want to check REI. Lots of outdoor-loving folks register there, and you might be able to buy something they want that is a little more fun than a toaster.
