Seattle trip suggestions

If you go in late July, just make sure you have your hotel reservations way in advance. There are many people cruising in and out of Seattle that month, and it makes it a bit of a challenge to find a hotel room that is available for more than a few nights at a time.

You may want to check out Tillicum Village. It's a ferry ride from Seattle, to an island in the Puget Sound. Once on the island, there is a traditional Salmon Dinner with Native American entertainment. Since Seattle and the surrounding areas have a lot of Native American history and influences, it's something I always like to take our out of town guests to. Have a nice trip! :)

There was a Seattle travel special on yesterday that showed a place called paradise, I think at the base of mount Ranier? It was just beautiful.

Stop at Molly Moon's for some ice cream.

I like McCormick and Schmick's Happy Hour. I love Nijo Sushi. I like the seafood place right in Pike Place. I love the little sandwich and soup shop right across from Pike Place. I love Boka at Hotel 1000.

That's all I've got. We like food, but don't usually make that our entertainment so I am clueless about good restaurants. Maybe someone else from around here will chime in. :)

If you want the absolute best pizza and beer, piecora's at 15th and Madison. If you like Italian, I like the spighetti factory, I think it is first and broad, right down the street from seattle center, or up the street from Elliot bay.

I love the underground tour and never had sexual overtones, I brought my kids with me. The city pass is okay, but I would rather do things a little my way. I like the air museum, seattle center but I also love the monorail and the silence center which is not on there so I would not get it. If you do you can do many of those things in a single morning. The aquarium only takes about 2 hours, the space needle would need no more than 1 1/2 hours if that, when at space needle you are at seattle center, nice to walk and may be several things going on, if not wont take you more than an hour, that is also where the science center and the monorail is, and also EMP, not a big fan did not care for jimmy Hendrix or cobane, but if you go there you could do all of that in one day, maybe a bit fast but none are that big that you would need a whole day, except if something is going on at the center that interest you.

Others gave you the seafood places. I could keep naming, but I think you have enough for tourism. I lived Tacoma for years, moved away and just moved back to capital hill seattle. Home will always be Boston but seattle is a great place also.

If you have a car get out of the city and head for Paradise on Mt. Rainier. Absolutely beautiful drive and just incredible when you get there. If I'm just staying in Seattle I would have to go up the space needle. I ride the Bremerton ferry to every Seahawk game so I'm a big fan of the ferries. If heading out for full day trips I would go over Stevens pass to Leavenworth or hit the North Cascades Highway to Winthrop. Even though I am from Washington I've only been to Pike Place once but I'm thinking if you are staying in Seattle it would be a great choice and it might not be the best seafood around but I love the Ivars fish bar on the waterfront.....great fish and fantastic chowder. I hate the seagulls but the tourists seem to love feeding them there too. If the Mariners are in town a trip to Safeco field is also a great choice, we might not have a great team but our stadium is 2nd to none (the views are incredible) and step into any bar in the area before a game and you will have a great time.

Check out the Tillicum Village Tour. You go by boat from the pier to an Indian village for a delicious salmon dinner and entertainment. I have been to Seattle many times and that stands out. Also, definitely eat at Ivars, it's right on the waterfront.

Another tip, try to get to one of our local Costcos (if you are a member), they offer several discounted gift cards to local restaurants.

How about some places to eat? Any suggestions?

We are heading to Seattle (driving from Portland) that same weekend. There is a night time Mariner's game that we are going to on Saturday.

Try the Crab Pot for lunch or dinner (don't go during peak times because you will have to wait). This restaurant is near the Aquarium.

Ivars is good. There are many great eateries near Pike's Market.

Have fun!

So funny combining the last two replies - one of my favorite things to buy at Costco is Ivar's Clam Chowder!

Anyone in Seattle drink a lot of pepsi?? There's a code (not sure if it is on a can or cap) that allows you to get discounted tickets to certain Mariners games. Feel free to share the love (via code) and PM me! :worship:

Thanks!

I read through this thread and there are some great suggestions. We will be in Seattle end of May. We rented a car for one day to drive to Vancouver. We were planning on going to Olympic National Park, leaving early and taking the late ferry to head to Vancouver. Any suggestions? Must see in Olympic?

There have been some great post - lived 6 year in Seattles outskirts - spell check is off

olyp. pen - This is a great day drive / ferry ride. can get two views in with one day. Look at ferry out of edmonds, mulkito or anecortes - drops you off up on north side ... There are some outstanding beaches views on the pacific side, as well as park areas to visit.

If you like to hike - Mt Rainer or Mt St Helens are awsome. Pack sun screen as the snow may still be around.

Like Wine and Beer - Visit woodenville. There are two world class wineries and top 10 brewery. Columbia / Chatue St. Michelle and Red Hook. BTW they are all within a 1/4 of a mile from each other. Makes for a fun day, RH has a pretty good food. CSM has some great concert in thier back yard, check out the events sched. DW and I saw BB King and Buddy Guy. Yah really. also check out mongolian grill in woodenville. The red wine - Merlots and Cabs are world class.... If you really like wine see if you can get into the members tasting room at CSM. Wine Club available..

For a great meal, check out edmonds- ferry port, sits just north of seattle. Anthonies- go to the lower resturent. great view, great food. Ivars great fastfood seafood...

Like trains - take the amtrack to vancouver, BC - can do up and back in one day. Food and drinks on train, water views are as good as 1 on the coast. Yes.
British columbia has a number of great places as well.

Take a ride out highway 2 - into the cascades, there are some great areas to get out and take walks, Visit your local REI or orginal REI in seattle, pick up a map and head out. Seattle is about the outdoors, A MUST SEE...

levenworth is a cool old german style town with shops.

send me a PM if you would like to talk further.

We love Olympic Ntl Park! I have only been there in July and August ....not sure how much snow there will be in May. They do have a live webcam so you should check that out before you go. Several places to get a bite to eat in Port Angeles (at the base of the park). Everything from Safeway grocery store w/Starbucks to nicer restaurants. We like to pick up food at Safeway and have a picnic inside the park.

The Underground Tour. And I disagree with the person that says it has a lot of sexual innuendo. The city was basically saved by a brothel owner... not to many ways to sugar coat that... It was the BEST thing I've done in seattle and I've been there quite a few times.

The Experience Music project was a HUGE dissapointment.

The Boeing tour is really neat, but north of the city a bit and definatly better on a week day than a weekend.

I agree with the citypass advice. It's options have changed a bit since we were there, but the savings are substancial if you are planning to do those things.

If you splurge on the space needle resturant to get the free ride up and much better view than from the observation deck... Note that there is a minimum spend per person, but a few appies each that you share will get you closer to the minimum amount without being WAY unlike ordering an entree. And a few appies each to share left us STUFFED!
