Seattle to Orlando question

We are moving clear across the country this summer (from East coast :cold: to West Coast :sunny: ) . Aside from all the other things attached to such a big life change, I was also mourning the loss of our annual trip to Orlando :guilty: . I decided to check into airfare from Seattle to Orlando and it is actually $300.00 less than what we pay on the East Coast, so an annual trip to FL is still in the future :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc !! Having said that, I was wondering, for anyone who has flown from Seattle, if these prices that I am seeing now are just really good and maybe historically they have been higher? I can only quote CDN prices but I can easily get flights in March for $260.00 CDN (so maybe $220.00 US). Is this close to what you have been paying? Thanks

Wow big move!!!! Typically I paid $198 inc tax in past; since 2004 that rose to about $220 inc tax.

Alaska flies non-stop (usually the only airline to do so) and has a red eye which gets in early.

They do a lot of specials and the plane is usually jam packed.

Hope that helps!!! if you have any other questions, I'll try to help.......

Alaska Airlines is the only non-stop flight from SEA to MCO. We live in Portland and have to fly to SEA, so I would assume direct from SEA should cost less. I would figure $250-$300 (Alaska Air is more expensive). You can probably find $200-$250 on other airlines with a change of planes somewhere.

Thanks so much. Your information is very encouraging. We were considering driving to Disneyland but with the airfare from Seattle being so cheap (what we consider cheap) I think we can continue our Orlando vacations!! :goodvibes

We did just the opposite ~ moved from Seattle to the east coast (VA). How I love the less than 2-hour flight to Orlando now :)

But, even from Seattle, we made a yearly visit to WDW. While everyone thought we were nuts to go "all that way" to WDW instead of just going to CA & Disneyland, it was definitely worth the longer plane flight. The thing to remember is that basically you need to add a day (or 2) to your vacation time to factor in the travel time.

To get the bargain fare for Alaska you'll need to really watch for their specials. The red-eye (11:30pm - 7:30am Orlando arrival) will typically be the best (ie, cheapest) fare from Seattle. Return flights usually run about the same price for both - there are (at this time) 2 non-stop returns a day.

Will you be moving to Seattle? or just somewhere in that area? But, don't worry .... you can still visit DisneyWorld from there :)

I bought a ticket on the same day as the flight on the Alaska redeye, in business class, for just over $300.

Check out Alaska's website - they have a variety of especials and often great deals.

Hint hint hint they also offer great deals from SEA to a variety of Southern California destinations :goodvibes

Where did you find them for $220? I've been looking since before Christmas/Thanksgiving and it's been around $350-$700 RT!

If Someone told you Seattle, Wa. was Sunny, they were just freakin' Wrong!!! It rains there more that it does in Vancouver, Wa. And Vancouver is lucky to get 2 1/2 months of Summer and there is no way it is all sunshine they are lucky to get partial sunny and mostly rainy days. They actually count the Sunny days to see if they break any records?? They even count sun breaks! You can't grow a decent tomato in any of the North West Cascade areas. But East of the Cascades in Wa. or OR is high desert areas but no big cities.

Have you checked the Rain Fall Amounts for Seattle??

When it comes to the amount of annual rain, Seattle "reigns" supreme. They average about 37 inches of rain per year,Seattle gets about 150 soggy days a year, Seattle gets the bulk of their rain in the fall and winter months, but they have more days per year with clouds and overcast than Vancouver.

Plus Seattle is listed as one of the cities with highest home costs on the west coast!

Actually, your information re rainfall is one of the great myths. Seattle gets less annual rainfall than many parts of the US. The rain is just spread out over more days per year

Yep yep. And it should be noted it doesn't really rain here in Seattle so much as the sky 'sweats'. We get drizzles more than downpours. It's just that we get a lot of drizzles. Also, we've been having some very sunny and warm summers as of late. Sun does happen in Seattle. Don't let the TV fool ya. It isn't all doom & gloom here. In fact, today it's very sunny outside.

As to the housing prices, Seattle still isn't as bad as Southern or Northern CA (thank the gods).

But onto the OP's question, that is a really good airfare you've found there. I've been checking airfare for May since last November and I'm always coming up with airfare around $350-370 (even on Alaska...I'm checking AA and Alaska so that I get my miles).

And OP, Seattle weather is nothing like what you experienced in NS - I have had even worse weather there than in Boston, and far worse than I have seen in the Pacific Northwest.

You'll enjoy the balmy days, believe me :goodvibes

I would sign up for Travelocity's fare alert and keep look for fares in the low to mid $200's.

PLUS you should also start to plan some long weekend trips to Disneyland. Check out the specials on Alaska Airlines ;)

I couldn't recall my earlier posts on this thread, and just realized that it is over a year old... someone has been bumping up or responding to a lot of old threads recently, and I think that was the case here too.

Hope that the OP got to WDW and didn't have too tough a time with the recent November/December/January weather - that is NOT the norm!

Hahah. I didn't even realize the date on the OP. That is kind of funny :)
