I’m sure this has been asked before, but I couldn’t find anything when I searched. Are there other tables than the back to back “cars”? I think it would drive me crazy to be sitting behind/in front of half the fam.

Yes. There are a few large and smaller tables that are a normal table but have bookend type front/back of cars.

Look at the left of this picture you see the long ones, some shorter ones towards the front.

Awesome. Thanks. I wonder if it’s hard to get one of these tables

A few weeks ago when we checked in they asked if we would take anything, and we said "no, we will wait for a real car". I don't think they are popular except for groups who won't fit in a car (max of 6 in those) so I bet it won't be hard.

We have eaten at sci-fi 3 times and had one of the traditional tables. The difference was we needed a high chair and they will usually put those at the more traditional table.

I'm not awake enough to phrase this politely, so bear with me - OP, if you don't want to sit in the cars, why would you want to eat at this restaurant? The movie clips aren't that big a deal, and I don't think the food is fabulous enough to be a draw.

(On the other hand, I made a resie there for my family because they wanted table service at DHS, my brother refused to eat at 50's Prime Time, and I didn't think the menus at the other restaurants would work for their picky eaters.)

We love the atmosphere, we enjoy the burgers and reuben but we dont like the car set up so we do prefer to ask for the Tables in the back. just easier to talk, and sit face to face! Nothing wrong with those tables... still super fun!!

We were seated in one of the "stretch limos" on the left as pictured in the photo @HopperFan shared. You will be VERY close to the table next to you. I don't know how many are in your party, but just be aware of that. We actually saw the people we sat next to the next day on the bus to MK from POP. We wound up having a nice chat!

There are also a few round tables at the back of the restaurant, called "flying saucers".

Yes they are traditionally for walk ups but am sure you can ask for one. We have eaten there as a walk up. My only issue is there are no backs on the benches and they are attached, so can't move.

It is probably the most highly themed restaurant at Disney World, and with drive-ins going extinct, we think it's a unique experience.

Very true, if your family can't fill it, you could share (as you would in a regular car if your family won't fill it). I think the main reason for these is larger groups who can't fit in a car but want to be together, but they are set up to be split among two groups. We went as a large group but we opted for two cars and it worked out fine.

There are also these type cars for smaller single groups.

Here are a few more pictures:

I actually agree with this. I understand people eat here because of the unique atmosphere. But its a dine-in theater. You dont get the same experience by sitting at a table. Just my opinion though. :)

Yes but you dont get the same experience sitting at a regular table. Its still cool though. And i suppose eating at a table is better than nothing. SciFi is one of my fave restaurants and your right about drive-ins going extinct. That's why i hope they never get rid of SciFi.

*same*We want a table service in HS and it’s the only menu that appealed to my entire group. The cars seem great and if we end up in those then that’s ok, I’m just one of those people that cringe when I see couples sitting on the same side of a booth in a restaurant. :earboy2:

 :lmao: ha ha! Same here!! Same-side-booth sitters doesn't sit well with me. Its just odd. But for SciFi, its obviously acceptable because its suppose to be a dine-in theater. :)

We really wanted to get an ADR here, but can't find anything for the week before Easter. What do you think the wait time will be to walk up around 4:00 on a Wednesday?

I used the Touring Plans Reservation finder to get the reservation for my brother for Christmas week. It worked (although I have not had success with other reservations). You must have a Touring Plans account, there is no charge, and just because you get a text telling you that the resie is available doesn't mean you will be the first to see it. Also, the tool only searches about twice an hour.

As for the ambience of the restaurant, it seems like eating there for the ambience but sitting at one of those tables in the back would be like... I don't know, going to a drive-in movie but sitting in a chair behind the cars.

I have a current request in with the Reservation Finder. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but any idea what the wait time is for a walk up?

I think they should add some updated Sci Fi movie trailers too. We had one of the rare Star Wars breakfasts there a few years ago and they played SW clips. That was really cool and the food was pretty good too. I'm taking my son for the 1st time to see his reaction. If he likes, we'll do again. If not, that'll be it.

I agree! Old SW movie clips would be very cool. They need to change it up.

What size is your party? Walk ups of 1 and 2 are seated a little more quickly as "hitchhikers" in the 3rd seat :)
