Seatbelts........PLEASE!!!!!

My FIL doesn't wear one, he says "what if my car goes into water and I am trapped"....not using brains there. I was so totally shocked over Memorial Day weekend. We were heading to Cocoa Beach on the toll road and while we were waiting to pay our toll, in the car next to us, there was an infant sitting on the passenger's lap. I ranted all the way to Cocoa Beach. Can you call the police about something like this?

I call 911 when I see an unsecured child. I dont understand how parents could take that kind of risk with their child. Even if I thought I was the worlds best driver I know that not everyone is.
Always some idiots changing lanes all the time cutting you off or tailgating you. You just never know what will happen.

Thanks for the idea of a booster but I barely reach the peddles as it is. Might work as a passenger though.
Unfortunately since mine is an older minivan the belts are not adjustable at the shoulder. My dh toyota has that and I use the shoulder belt in his car just not mine.

Just an FYI--my dh Ford F-150 has adjustable brake and gas peddles. You can make them come closer to you or farther away if you have longer legs. If you are interested in trucks you might want to check one out whenever you are in the car market.

Here is another story from " Why I now wear MY seatbelt".

My dh's 31 y.o. cousin has just been disconnected from all life support. She was driving home from work a few months ago, hit a patch of black ice, went off the road, hit a tree and basically went through the windshield. Unfortunately, she was not wearing a seatbelt. She is for all intents and purposes, brain dead and will never recover or progress from her vegetative state. The doctors have done all they can to help her but there is no more hope. Short of a major miracle, it is only a matter of days before she will be gone. She has a 10 y.o. child that has now lost his mother, parents that have lost their daughter and a family full of hurt and sadness. How sad she will not be here to see her child grow up.

I keep thinking, "If only she had buckled up". My dh and I now wear our seatbelts every time we get in the car. I will never not buckle up again.

Thanks for the reminder Jim. I feel naked if I don't have my seatbelt on and I'm driving.

It infuriates me when I see children and babies travelling in cars without some type of car seat or even buckled up!!

My DD who is now 9 would have been killed at just 6 weeks of age if she had not been buckled into her baby seat. On the way back from my doctors office where we had been for a check up we where hit by a huge truck which was being driven by some guy who was drugged up and drunk. Apparently (according to witnesses) he was having a party in his truck whilst he was driving. Anyway to cut a long story short my DD was just terrified after the accident, her car seat had been slightly dislodged, but according to the firefighters and paramedics she probably wouldn't have made it if I had been carrying her.

Everytime I see a child who is not strapped in I think about that day and hope and pray that their car doesn't get hit.

Nobody will ever be a passenger in our car without wearing a seatbelt!!
