Seatbelts........PLEASE!!!!!

C'mon Pop Daddy, wear your seatbelt before your daughter has to call you "Popped out the window Daddy".

I have driven twice (in my almost 20 years of having the priviledge to possess a driver's license) without a seatbelt on.

The first time was in 1986 and I drove about a mile, felt completely naked and ashamed, and put it on. The second time was last week when I moved my Blazer from one parking space (in our condominium parking area) to another.

I bet it doesn't happen again (to me at least) for another 17 years.:)

I will not wear a shoulder belt. At 4'8" tall it crosses my neck and I have yet to find a way to stop that. I have tried various types of mechanical devices to clip the belt away from the neck but they do not work. I will wear a lap belt though.
I feel that it really doesn't matter in my situation as I will be decapitated from the shoulder belt in an accident anyway or paralyzed from the neck down which would be worse because I would not be able to communicate.

I don't let anyone ride in my car without a seatbelt. I used to not say anything if other people weren't wearing their's, but then I read an article in Reader's Digest about people being killed by backseat passengers who weren't wearing seatbelts. Apparently they can fly into the front seat and hurt or kill people who were wearing their seatbelts. So now everyone has to wear one in my car.

I don't know about you guys, but for some reason my van doesn't move unless all passengers (adults and children) are sitting with their seatbealts on. ;)

My car has that strange "problem" too. It won't go out of park unless all passengers are wearing their seatbelts.

Our family always always wears seatbelts. Everyone should - even Pop Daddy.

And another little known safety tip - from my former BIL - who is a firefighter. Everyone - but especially babies and young children -should sleep in bedrooms with the bedroom door shut. A shut bedroom door can buy critical minutes or even seconds in the event of a fire.

For your next lecture could you please add car/booster seats for children and babies?

Exactly!!
Hate seeing little ones standing in the car...:(
I always wear my seatbelt and make my passengers wear one too...

Like others on this thread, I thought the car wouldn't move without everyone being buckled first. :D

Being married to a firefighter/paramedic, I've heard so many stories and even see a few myself that were tragic and devasting. Gosh, when you actually SEE it, it really makes an impact on you.

Jason, you will only get lucky if you wear your seatbelt. God knows your little girl deserves a daddy who cares enough about her to buckle himself in the car every time.
As we say in TN--"Click it or ticket it."

Anyone know if there is a short seat belt extension you can use with the bigger kid car seats?

Our 6 yearlos has one of the newly mandates boster things. Problem is the seat blocks where the belt goes and she can cant buckle herself in.

How about some kind of booster seat to put you up higher so that the seat belt works properly?

Ab-so-lute-ly!!!!!!!

SOmetimes what I see gets me soooooooooooo MAD I would like to post pictures just to say "See! THIS is what can happen!"

I'd also like to post pictures of the reactions of those left behind. Sometimes I think that woul dbe so much more effective than the blood/guts/splattered brains pictures.

Do it for others if not for yourself.

talking hands I am only 4' 8" tall as well. I now have a van and the shoulder belt has an adjustable belt. It works really great. THe only thing that worries me though is the air bags. I have a permission form from the government that would allow me to disarm the airbag but it is hard trying to find someone who will do it. I found someone to do it but it was going to cost $1000.00. A little too high for us. I drive with the top of my toes so that I can stay as far back as possible.
My van also doesn't go until all belts are in use. I was driving a lady and her 3 kids to and from for a while and it seems my van was the only car they had been in that had that problem. They quickly got used to it.

My FIL doesn't wear one, he says "what if my car goes into water and I am trapped"....not using brains there. I was so totally shocked over Memorial Day weekend. We were heading to Cocoa Beach on the toll road and while we were waiting to pay our toll, in the car next to us, there was an infant sitting on the passenger's lap. I ranted all the way to Cocoa Beach. Can you call the police about something like this?

That's strictly against Florida law. If you are on a highway, call *FHP on your cell phone & tell them.

Another seat belt wearer here!

My father's life was saved by his seat belt. He was hit head on by a guy who fell asleep behind the wheel. The guy drove across a grassy median before he hit my dad's car. My father said he saw the car coming at him right before it hit his car. He tried to swerve out of the way but it was too late and the car was coming too fast. My father was driving a Nissan Maxima. The car hit the front corner of his car hard enough to buckle the roof. When the police and paramedics showed up at the scene they asked the other people who had stopped after seeing the accident who was in the Maxima. My dad, who had climbed out the passenger side door told them he was in that car. They were amazed he had gotten out.

They grabbed him and quickly put him on a back board with a neck collar. He had a broken collar bone, a broken wrist, some bones broken in the other hand and a bunch of bruises where the seat belt was. Aside from that he was fine. If he hadn't been wearing the seat belt I'm not sure he would be here today. I was pregnant with his first grandchild at the time. He might have missed seeing her and her sister if he hadn't been wearing his belt.

My van doesn't start unless everyone has a seatbelt on. And if dh starts driving away without his seatbelt on, the kids take care of him,;) .

You and I must have the same van with the same feature because mine does that too. ;)

My car doesn't go anywhere without everyone wearing seatbelts either.
Most of the time no one has a problem with it. I get strange looks, but I don't mind.

Thanks for the idea of a booster but I barely reach the peddles as it is. Might work as a passenger though.
Unfortunately since mine is an older minivan the belts are not adjustable at the shoulder. My dh toyota has that and I use the shoulder belt in his car just not mine.
