Seatbelt checks

Am I the only one who was shocked at the lax seatbelt checks they do at Disney?

I mean, they have guests check their own belts. Most parks I've been to, the ride staff check them for you.

I was on Astro Orbiter with my husband and I didn't even realize there was a seatbelt until I was high up in the air. It felt like I was going to go flying out and I held on for dear life! The CM didn't even check. :confused3

I think they do a good job considering the amount of people on and off the rides every day....I don't see a reason why adults can not fasten their own seatbelts and be accountable for themselves??:confused3

I think for a lot of rides like astro orbiter the seatbelts are there more to keep little kids from standing up, and I would imagine that the CM's would make sure that kids have them fastened. As long as an adult (or a kid) stays seated in the astro orbiter there's no way that they'll get thrown from the ride, and frankly, having ridden the astro orbiter as an adult twice (I got seat belt checked once) I can tell you that it was a bit awkward for the CM to try to check my seatbelt. The CM may have simply been avoiding that awkwardness with you.

On rides where a seatbelt can matter, like dinosaur or soarin' the CM's do a much better seat belt check, and the seat belts also have electronic sensors so the ride computer can see that everyone is buckled in... those rides won't even start if someone doesn't have their seatbelt on.

Yup.

With the litigious society we have today, I can't imagine an older gentleman having to physically check a female teenager's seat belt. Especially in the hot summer months when people wear as little clothes as possible.
