If I book a flight via Orbitz, Expedia etc., how are the seats assigned? I will be traveling with an 8 yr old and we would like to sit together.

Also, there are a total of 6 in our party, 2 are flying and 4 are driving. I was thinking of sending the luggage of the 2 flying with the drivers for the trip down only. Would there a problem in doing this? It might look strange going without luggage and coming back with luggage. I'm thinking not, but I'm sure with all the security changes etc.

This was a couple of years ago, but when I booked through Orbitz, I just called the airline itself, gave them the reservation numbers and asked for us to be put together on the manifest.

It's not going to look weird not to have luggage. Lots of times, people travel w.o luggage (like me, for instance!).

It's been awhile since I used an internet booking agent like Orbitz to book airfare (I use the airline's website to avoid the fees), but I seem to remember that you do get the option to choose your seats right there.

We booked with Orbitz and when you get to one of the final steps in purchasing there is an option to choose your seats..it puts up a map of the plane and you just click on the seats...very easy.
