I was wondering what the majority of people do. I know, with Westjet, you can't choose your seats until check in time . Those that fly Air Canada can pay for seat selection. Do you pay for seat selection? I don't know what the American airlines do for seat selection. Do you have to pay to choose yours seats? If so, do you?:confused3

I don't care where I sit....heck I'd sit in the lavatory for the whole flight if I had to...just as long as I was going to disney :lmao:

we always buy tickets that allow us to choose our seats ahead of time... mostly because we are travelling with children and we have sadly seen families split up before...

If I am travelling with my family which I usually am, I always get an advanced seat selection so I can sit with them

IMO Anybody is crazy if they don't get a seat number ahead of time. All major airlines have a habit of overbooking. The seats are first come first serve. If you don't have a seat number assigned to you, your taking a chance of being bumped to a later flight.

In all my times flying with WestJet, I've never ONCE seen them oversell a flight...

Not to mention WestJet does their "family seating" assignments internally before the 24 hour window opens up online. Allows families to be in the same row :thumbsup2

I just booked tickets with Air Canada and paid for seat selections both ways. I figure I might as well guarantee myself a seat in case the flight is oversold.

Actually you can, we have booked with Westjet and they now have advance check in on line. You can go on their website and get your boarding passes 24 hours in advance of your flight. They used to just do this for domestic flights between points in Canada, but now it includes their U.S. flights.

We always pay a little extra and reserve our seats, well worth it in my opinion.

I don't fly on airlines that don't allow seat selection at the time of booking - I'd rather pay a little extra and be assured of being able to sit with my kids. I don't want to take the chance of being split up, although I am sure someone would switch seats in order for a parent to sit with a younger child, but I'd rather be assured my whole family can sit together without having to ask other people to move!
