Seasoned designers: what am I doing wrong?

I've been trying to design my own invitations for about 2 weeks. Sadly, I'm not good at it. I'm working with GIMP. I do my designing at work (yes, I'm lucky that I can do it at work, because I don't have time to do it at home), so I can't put Photoshop onto these computers.

I finally got a design that I'm actually happy with. But when I upload it into Shutterfly to order, it says that it has insufficient resolution to print, even at a 4X6. I'd like to make them 5X7. It does this for every single design I made.

Here's the one I'm happy with. How do I fix the resolution issue?

Sorry but I don't know anything about GIMP but I did up the resolution for you. Let me know if you need it up higher.

I am neither a seasoned designer nor a GIMP expert, but I have been using GIMP. Here is a guess. I don't know if it will help. But, here goes...When you open GIMP and select "new" to start a new design, input the size you want. Then click on the advanced options under it. Change the resolution. It defaults to 72 x 72. I change mine to 300x300 and haven't had any problems.
I hope that fixes the problem. I liked you design.

Thanks, that helps. I've just kept it on the default for all of my designs. Now if I could just get some good creative mojo.:lmao:
