I'm thinking about trying to get a seasonal job thru the holidays for extra money. Has anyone ever done this, I saw that our local JC Penneys has seasonal openings. I would love feedback from those who have done this.

My wife got a seasonal job at Lowes and it's been going on now for 3 years. :thumbsup2

What is there to give feedback on? 99% of the time seasonal work is seasonal work. They hire you and when the season is over, they dismiss you. Do you want to work or not want to work? A job is a job, either you want to work or you don't. There is always the chance that someone non-seasonal will leave during your time and they may ask you to stay, or never ask you to leave.

My wife was hired for summer help with Lowes being a home improvement store. Most summer help is college students and they leave once they are heading back to school. My wife wasn't going to college, she just applied to go back (worked for Lowes and left to stay home and raise the kids for 9 years) and never put in to leave to go back to college. In return, they never asked her to leave because the "season" was over. During the "season", there had been quite a few people who had left, thus my wife stayed and has been there for about 3 years.

I think JC Penneys would be a good place to work for the Holidays. Does anybody know what their employee discount is?

I only do seasonal work - most jobs up on the mountains involve snow so there are a lot of seasonal workers here!

I work at a small cafe, use my paycheck for bills etc and save up my tips for vacation. Last winter I made enough in tips to pay our upcoming DLR trip in full  So yes it is worth it!

I would definately get a seasonal job at a dept store/toy store/Walmart etc just for the discount - takes care of the holidays and also get to save some $$$

I used to work seasonal every year (until I had kids) and hope to go back to it this year. I really loved it. My only issue was, because I worked at the mall, sometimes my hours were significantly different than what I had specified that I can do...and I was working a full time job otherwise so it was not an optional thing. That always seemed to need to be rectified with them. Also, again because it was at the mall, I would end up working 5 - midnight...then had to get up early the next day because I had to be at my regular job by 7am. The timing was my only issue!

Loved the extra paycheck and the discount!

I worked season before I had kids too and loved it. Worked at Macy's. Didn't make too much money ended up just signing my paycheck over to them every 2 weeks. But I was working for products not money anyway. We have a beautiful victorian Christmas tree and ornaments that I got from working there and signing my checks over. Been thinking just today actually about doing something seasonal this year. Not necessarily Christmas though I was maybe thinking doing taxes at H&R Block but I'm just not sure how many hours they'd give me. I already have a job this would be extra money for vacation so worried about taking on too much.

I am starting at Toys R Us this week seasonal. I am doing the overnight shift, I must be nuts:scared1:

But if I had to work during the day dealing with last minutes parents acting like 2yo's when they cant find the gift the want, I wouldn't last a day.
