Seasonal Employee Discounts

My daughter completed her CP last month and just received her acceptance as a seasonal employee today. I know she has to work 40 hours within a year to maintain her status, but when do the discounts kick in? I think I read somewhere that she would have to work a shift first.

Here is my real question. We live in Massachusetts and she goes to college in Florida. We will be driving to school in August. Will we be able to stay at a WDW resort at the cast discounted rate? If she could pick up a shift on the way, could we check into a hotel at a non-discounted rate, have her work a shift and then check into a hotel at the discount rate? When would she be able to use her park pass? I assume being seasonal she gets a park pass?

Thanks in advance for any help and answers. I think this is going to make her look a little more forward to going back to school than she was before.

She will have to pick up a shift in order to get a seasonal cast member ID. She will have to schedule a shift and have her manager send an email to access control in order for them give her an ID when she goes in, otherwise she will wait in the long line at access control for nothing! She needs an ID for discounts and to get into the parks.

Just a heads up - seasonal requirements for 2012 and beyond are changing - it's going to be 150 hours per year. There are other rumors for requirements but that's the one that multiple people have had confirmed.
