I'd love to hear whatever remedies have been used with either success, or not so much success while on Dis cruises, or any other cruise.

1) What did you use?

2) Did it work?

3) Were there side effects?

Thanks a million!

We just got back from a cruise last month and my husband and I both used a patch. Some people don't like them, but neither one of us got sick. He has used them before on deep sea fishing excursions when others were retching over the side of the boat and he was fishing and feeling great. The only side effect we experienced was being very thirsty. Which can easily be remedied. I will always use one on a cruise because you can put it on and forget it and have fun.

I would look for something to *prevent* sea sickness if you can. DH and I used ginger root tabs a couple days before. I wanted something natural. However, our seas were very calm so can't judge the effects very well. My DH can not go on simulators so I anticipated a problem. He was fine. You'll hear from many with their suggestions.

1) The scop patch.

2) It worked like a charm! I get sick at nearly any motion, and I did not feel sick once on the ship. (after I got off was a different story, though)

3) As posted above, the ONLY side effect for me was dry mouth and feeling thirsty. I drank alcohol w/ no additional problems or drowsiness. People have reported problems w/ their eyes...I think they didn't wash their hands after putting the patch on. I used one patch for a 4 night cruise.

Oddly enough, I was very nauseated for 3 or so days after returning home from our cruise. I thought it may have been a side effect of removing the patch, but I read here that some people suffer that after getting off a ship. Who knows?

I had purchased chewable bonine tablets. Prior to getting on the ship I chewed one.....no problems at all. We had a 10yr old traveling with us he also did not experience any problems i.e. drowseness.

Those of you who've had success with the scop patch, at what point prior to departure did you put it on? On our first DC, I put it on at our departure airport hotel (early AM) and ended up taking it off while waiting in the port! I think due to the lack of sleep the night before (excitement) I started to get a bit "wigged-out" and I was having blurred vision (I wear soft contacts). I had also brought Dramamine, so I made due with that.

I'd like to give the patch another try, I'm just wondering if I'd have better success if I waited until we boarded the ship to put it on, maybe after eating a big lunch! We are in a cat.8 this time, and I'm a bit nervous about the reports of forward rooms having more motion.

I put mine scop patch on at about noon or so...we were waiting at the AK for the DCL busses. I believe we left port at 5:00 pm, do I guess around 5 hours prior. I wear contacts and I had no problems that I either noticed or payed attention to...other than the dry mouth.

I bought Sea Bands, Bonine, Dramamine non drowsy, and brought the scopolamine patch. Actually, with all the excitement of the cruise, and getting everyone packed, organized, at the airport on time, and then the "ressie scramble", I forgot to even open any of them, and NEVER needed them! Neither did my DH, DS, or 2 DD's!

I used Bonine for the first 3 days before the cruise and the first night of the cruise. Just a little lightheadness, but after the first day I was fine. The Sunday after we got home was a different story. I was more sick the 2 days after the cruise then during the whole 7 days. Dizzy, nauseous, and still rocking. My husband thought I was nuts.

We put ours on about 3 hours before boarding and right after eating. I got dizzy for about 20 minutes and then it went away. Husband didn't have any reactions at all but he is larger than I am and that might have something to do with it.

My first cruise was the 10/26 magic. Never having been on a cruise before, I took Dramamine (non-drowsy version) the first day. I only did this as a precaution. I didn't need it on the Magic after that. The only time that I took it again was on board the boat that takes you from Cozomel to the Mexican mainland. This is one I wished I had asked about. The boat really bounces on this 30 minute ride. I popped Dramamine and my husband fanned me the whole way. Luckily I didn't lose my breakfast - but it was close. Moral of the story - check out conditions for shore excursions when deciding whether or not medicine is necessary.

By the way, I was light headed for several days after I got off the boat. I thought it was just me.:)

Went on our first cruise in June. DH and Myself took a chewable Bonine each night before bed, even the night before we sailed. Gave DD7 and DS10 a 1/2 each night. We NEVER felt sleepy or queasy!
Good Luck and have fun!

Chewable Bonine worked great! I get sick with any kind of motion and had no problems while using it.
