I have never used the kidvantage thing. I have a few questions.....

My friend told me that now they are quite strict about receits and needing the clothes to be brought in within a year. Is this true?

Also, how worn do the pants have to be? Is it fading or does it have to be frayed and ripped?

I am just curious.

Thanks,

Dawn

I have never been given a hard time for taking things back. In fact, I have only taken back my son's jeans that have worn through the knees. They just tell me to get another pair and they do the adjustment.

I actually just brought my first pair back this past friday. There was nothing really wrong with them, no holes or anything, just a small (almost unnoticeable) grass stain on one of the knees. I walked in, found the same pair and went to check out. The lady didn't even look to see if they were the same style or size. She just rung it out and I was on my way :) My son no longer fits into that size I got, so I will sell them! I know we've had those pants longer then a year.

So why did you return them if there was nothing wrong with them?

To sell them of course:rolleyes: You get a much better price for new jeans than worn ones, and hey let's take full advantage.

The things some people do to make a buck is mind boggleing.:rolleyes1

I was wondering this myself. My daughter has a bobby jack hoodie and the zipper pull broke this week. Didn't know if that was a 'wear' issue or not. My main concern would be that they might not have anymore...

OK, I've missed this... So if you by children's clothes from Sears and something breaks, they'll exchange them?

I'm not usually one to judge, but in my honest opinion, this is just wrong....:confused3

I wouldn't consider a grass stain to be "worn out" clothing. It looks like you really pulled one over on them. Pretty discusting if you ask me.

Yes, this program has been around for years. My oldest is a teen and they had it when he was younger.
I thought ( and I could be wrong since I have never used it), that it was mainly geared towards jeans.. that if your kid blew out the knees.. zipper or snap broke you could exchange them for the same pair, SAME SIZE and the ones you had.

Lisa--it did used to be jeans but now it is all their clothes if you are a member of kidvantage. I know they look up my account when I exchange clothes. I have never brought in anything stained because I figure that was not an issue of the clothing item itself, it was just my messy kids! :rotfl: I know mine does not care how long ago you purchased and you only need a receipt on nonstore brand or not Land's End clothes. I only buy Toughskins or Land's End jeans for my boys and Canyon River Blues for DD so that works perfectly for me. The middle one (boy) blows through the knees of jeans at an alarming rate so this is the only way I can afford to buy pants for that child! I swear I am in there every other month getting him new jeans! I bought a whole slew of jeans a couple of years ago in 4 sizes as they were having this awesome clearance on little boy Land's End. He is now in the third size and they still have no problem returning them. Mine is very careful though to make sure you have the same size and style. The only time they were lenient on that issue is I had a pair of 8 Slims for DD and they didn't have any so they let me exchange it for 8 reg.

Also, if you are a member of KidVantage, they give you a coupon everytime you spend a total of $150 for 15% off an entire purchase. The different purchases add up to $150, you don't have to spend it all at once.

I do this with the kids's shoes.

I exchange them (Same size, same style) as they get worn out....then "hand me down" to the next child. On occasion I "get lucky" and the style has been discontinued and I can get BOY shoes for the boy LOL!

I've never been given a hassle, except for the one time there was a brand new guy there and the trainer was on break.

And resell? Yes I"ve done that, too. They have a policy that states a can't wear me out guarantee and IF they do wera out you get the same size same product in exchange. I have no guild over reselling. Although I also have no guilt over regifting either:lmao:

My father is a VP for Sears and was a store manager for years when we were younger. The program is not meant to maintain a wardrobe for all of your children it is intended for the child that the clothing was bought for while they are in that size. It is a hard rule to enforce/prove and they rely on the honesty of the customer. Sears is one of the few companies who still have alot of the return policies that they do and they won't for long if people abuse it. If you buy jeans for your son and he wears the knees out it is right to exchange them but if you are still swapping jeans out three years later for different children or selling them that's just plain wrong. I know that this policy periodically comes up for review. My dad talks about twenty years ago that a store could go a year without ever receiving a return of this sort and now it happens all the time. Sears used to donate all of their returns and end of the season clothing to local charities. They stopped having to do that over 10 years ago because people would get them for free and then bring them to the store and return or exchange them even when the stores had cut the tags out. Now like most other retail stores they are destroyed - a big waste- but they couldn't afford to continue donating because of the actions of a few.

I'm sure you make your children proud:sad2: Unbelievable

I can't believe someone would get something for free and then have enough gull to go and try to return it. It just boggles my mind to what lengths some people would go to.:confused3

I am a member of the kidvantage program, but the funny thing is this is the first time I am hearing about the return policy. I guess it wasn't explained well to me when I signed up, or I just didn't understand it. I always thought that the point of the program was that they keep track of all your purchases and once you spend a certain amount you get a coupon for next time. You learn something new everyday. :)

My DD seems to have major issues with her jeans wearing out recently. I buy them all at Sears and now I am going to go and check the last two pair that wore out. I have had it with the way the quality is way down. BTW one of the reasons that they never had many returns 20 years ago is because stuff was made much better than it is now. The belt loops tear right off the CRB jeans after one wear and when you check them in the store before buying them you can see they are already frayed around that area. Of course now I just don't buy them at all and don't have to deal with returning them six times per month.

I can't believe someone thinks a grass stain is Sears fault and they deserve new pants- oh wait yes I do! That is disgusting and you wonder why clothes cost so much. My MIL is retired from Sears and the stories she tells of things people return, like the guy who "bought" 4 chainsaws used them tho clear some property and then returned them because he didn't like them. Very soon Sears will get like Toys R Us with the return policy and it will be abusers like this to blame. It's too bad.

It is too bad. I cannot for the life of me think why they are proud to do this? In the end they hurt themselves as well. All to feel like they "got over". A great lesson to teach your children. "Come on kids, your pants are dirty, let's return them for new ones and sell them on ebay" :sad2: :sad2:

I was just at sears the other day and asked about this program. I was told that the item must me purchased within the last year and worn out during that time frame. You may then exchange for same item same size. Whether or not all stores and sales people follow those rules I do not know, but that is how it was explained and the thing I read said. It also had the spend so much get a coupon thing. Lands End clothes however are to be sent back to Lands End not the store, you just have to call them.

Stride Rite used to do a similar thing--if your shoes wore out and still fit your child they would replace them. So many people would buy shoes used and then come in to get new ones they had to stop.

As far as what people will return--in college I worked at Victorias Secret and people will try to return anything for anyreason:sad2: Lets just say once the manager actually had to tell the guest that not only had the item been used but they needed to see a doctor.:rotfl:

I totally agree. I think things should me made to last but wouldn't take advantage of the system. I recently wrote a company because I bought an ice cream scoop and it started pitting and peeling. They emailed me back and asked for my address so they can send me a new one. I got the new one, threw the old one away and am now using the new one - I would never think to sell it!!

I'm sure we've all bent the system a little but that is out and out breaking it!!
