Sears Kidvantage club- What constitutes worn out?

Sears used to donate all of their returns and end of the season clothing to local charities. They stopped having to do that over 10 years ago because people would get them for free and then bring them to the store and return or exchange them even when the stores had cut the tags out. Now like most other retail stores they are destroyed - a big waste- but they couldn't afford to continue donating because of the actions of a few.

I worked in the children's dept at Sears in the early 90s and I remember having to cut up brand new winter coats because they had a slight cut in them from a boxcutter. :sad1:

I can't believe someone thinks a grass stain is Sears fault and they deserve new pants- oh wait yes I do! That is disgusting and you wonder why clothes cost so much.
It's not a matter of it being Sears' fault that the clothes wore out or were stained. The truth is that everyone and his brother sell kids' clothes these days. Sears has instituted this policy in an attempt to lure business away from Target, Kmart, and other discount stores. They know that the great majority of their customers will not save the receipts/tags, and that very few will actually bother to make the exchanges -- yet people talk about this guarantee, and it gives people a positive impression of their store. It's an advertising thing!

I've only returned things that were genuinely worn, but I have bought things for daughter #1 and returned them worn out to get new items for daughter #2. It's within the spirit of the guarantee.

No I don't think it is in the spirit of the guarantee! I believe the guarantee is if the item wears out before your child outgrows it they will replace it. Note it is the child you bought it for not your extended family. Geeze nothing would ever just wear out if it were that general, return it unless it lasts through all 8 of your kids.

Absolutely not. The "spirit" of the guarantee does not entitle you to clothe your entire family from one purchase. Where does it end?

Perfectly said.

Found this online, it was from a Canada site, but I'm guessing it still pertains:

Our KidVantage® Wearout Warranty is simple:

*it covers all children's apparel and footwear as long as the child for whom you bought the item continues to wear the size
*if the item wears out, Sears will, at its option, either repair or replace it with the identical item in the same size, or if it's unavailable, a similar item of equal value in the same size
*it covers children's sizes from infants' up to 18 in apparel, and up to senior kids' size 6 in footwear, with proof of purchase
*all replacements or repairs can be handled through your nearest Sears Catalogue location

The KidVantage® Wearout Warranty does not apply to:

*hosiery and underwear
*any item sold at any Sears Outlet store or online at Sears Outlet web site

Wow! I didn't mean to stir up controversy here. I just was curious.

I actually have some Lands' End jeans that are worn out, with holes in the knees, but I haven't tried to return them or exchange them. It has been over a year though I think.

Anyway, I was mostly referring to severely faded or torn clothing. The school my kids are possibly going to next year requires uniforms and I their policy is no rips or holes in clothing. So, I would have to replace it if it got holes, rips or faded badly.

Thanks!,

Dawn

I can't believe someone would get something for free and then have enough gull to go and try to return it. It just boggles my mind to what lengths some people would go to.:confused3

I am a member of the kidvantage program, but the funny thing is this is the first time I am hearing about the return policy. I guess it wasn't explained well to me when I signed up, or I just didn't understand it. I always thought that the point of the program was that they keep track of all your purchases and once you spend a certain amount you get a coupon for next time. You learn something new everyday. :)

I am like you. I am a member of kidvantage but never knew of this policy. I might just start buying my sons uniforms and jeans there since it seems like the knees are the first things to go.

WOW! I am a member of kidvantage and did not know about this policy. I would never bring back jeans that were stained just because they were stained. WRONG...JUST WRONG!

I believe Lands End items can be returned (not just exchanged for the same size) at any time, for any reason and this would be separate from the Kidvantage club program - it is a guarantee on all landsend merchandise.

labst60 is right about the Lands End return policy...however, you, of course, have to pay the postage to return the clothes.

herc.

Wow, using the policy to get new clothes to sell? And for future kids? I am cheap, but that seems dishonest to me!

I am curious about the original question though, especially about fading. Never had a problem with dd, but my twin boys jean knees get faded and worn out so quickly! I may have to run and see if Sears has any jeans on clearance still...

I always wait until there is a hole in the knee before I bring them in. My son must have bony knees, because when he was little I brought a lot in!! Now that he is older (10), I barely exchange at all.
