They will become "Sears Holding Corp" hmmmmmm, since I used to work for SEARS Corporate years back I wonder what direction this will take, I noticed Sports Authority and Sportmart have done the same...power in numbers? Should be interesting. At least Sears may carry toys again?

That's interesting. Should make for more inventory at our local Kmart store. But I would think Lands End and Martha would be in competition for their product lines....I am for any merger that gives the consumer more choices at better prices. And Kmart is suffering, so it is probably a better deal for them.

This will make them the 3rd largest retailer in the country....and looks like corporate will remain in Chicago keeping some of Kmarts clout in Troy, MI. Plan is to keep interior(mall) and exterior stores. I think this will be great for them both, if they manage to update their facilities a bit...at least arround here. Everytime I see them improve, it is w/the same style/grey look...I know that is expensive, but a few bright lights might help people wanting to shop there, however, the sales are always pretty good at both. Here's hoping it takes off! I also think there's room for both Lands End and Martha...but if push came to shove, Lands End has an edge being more clothing, and a bit more sought after. People here really like being able to return LE to a store other than re-shipping, and the quality is very nice, and as I said, when it's on sale in the store, like 75% off of what a LE catalog would charge.

I was just thinking about Sears - I really miss the old Sears catelogue -- (with all the toys when I was a kid).

I was just wondering why, with the catelogue industry booming, they discontinued their's.

I can't imagine Lands End and Martha Stewart products competing. They are two totally different qualities. MS is rather cheap but put out there as a higher end product which is true when comparing it to other stuff K Mart sells. LE, on the other hand, is a very good quality product no matter what you compare it to. I really wish they would get rid of K Mart. They are so run down and mismanaged. The ones around here are dirty and never kept up. I much prefer Target in that store category and I like Sears too.

They discontinued theirs during their bankruptcy years back. The catalogue was not cost effective, so viola! No more catalogue.

CNN is billing the deal as a Kmart purchase of Sears based on the numbers. I really hope they can make it work. As somebody mentioned, power is in numbers, so maybe the combined company will be able to better compete with WalMart. Stores are going to close and people are going to lose their jobs, but in the end hopefully a healthy competitive company will emerge.

Actually, the Sears in my area, including the one I work at, all sell toys now.

Same here. Our Sears never stopped having a toy department. It wasn't that big but it was there. They always expand it for Christmas too so now it is probably 7 aisles of toys.
