We were at Disneyland about 3 weeks ago, and as we were driving around the LA area we saw a ton of these trees that we had never seen before and would like to try to find one here. They were tall, full trees that are about the size of a Chinese Tallow, but the thing that set them off were the blue flowers they had all over! I was hoping that someone could tell me the name of those trees. I hope I described them well enough! The flowers were in large clumps like the way Crape Myrtle flowers grow. I don't even know if they would grow here, but I would like to give it a try! Any ideas on what tree we saw? Thanks!!

These are my second favorite trees -- they are called Jacarandas & have a blue/purple flower... the rest of the year they are leafy green -- I love jacarandas during the spring months.

Thank you so much!! I can't wait to tell my DH when he gets home. Now the search will be on to find one, and find out if they can even grow here!

Do you mind me asking what your most favorite tree is?

It is said that if a Jacaranda blossom falls on your head as you walk under a tree it will give you great fortune for life.

Here is a picture so you can make sure that this is the right tree.

All my best

P.S. - If you plant one...don't park under the tree when it "sheds" - It gets all over the place. :)

Yep! That's it!! Thanks so much! Now I know I really do need to find that tree! I could use some good fortune!!

Thanks!

<font color=navy>My favorite would probably have to be some type of fir, most likely cedar -- nothing like being up in the Sierra mtns with firs and pines all around.... mmmmmmm

Tina - thanks for the pic - I glanced through that site - what beautiful scenery!! :)

TXTink ~ you should see streets lined w/jacarandas on both sides - really beautiful! :D

I just planted one a couple weeks ago. I don't see alot of them up here in Northern California (Sunnyvale) and thought they would be expensive. They are not. I would love to plant A Jacaranda and a Mimosa and have them intertwine and bloom at the same time!

I LOVE the jacarandas, they are all over my neighborhood and it's so cool to drive down the street and see them when they are in full bloom. Always brings a smile to my face. :sunny:
